Great restaurants in the neighborhood (one Zagat rated: Elizabeth's), Cake Cafe, the Country Club,Suis Generis, Maurepas Foods and Satsuma Coffee Shop offer great sandwiches and vegetarian fare. Vaughn's on Thursday night with Kermit Ruffins is a NOLA experience not to be missed! Try The Joint for the best BBQ in NOLA, Bacchanal wine shop also hosts guest chefs and Mimi's in the Marigny, a short walk away, voted the best neighborhood bar in 2009 by local paper Gambit. This was our fist experience with airbnb and we had a wonderful visit in New Orleans. Susan and David were gracious and accomodating hosts as we stayed in one half of a double shotgun house. They were very helpful with their knowledge of the area and their suggestions for resturaunts and entertainment. The house was charming, cozy, and tastefully decorated and set in a unique location in New Orleans. It is a quiet working class neighborhood just east of and within walking distance of the French Quarter. There were several good restaurants in the neighborhood as well. We were only there for 5 days but we felt at home in Bywater after only a short while and left with fond memories of New Orleans.
Susan's house was lovely and commodious, tastefully furnished, replete with books, and located in a beautiful, convenient part of the city--mostly quiet, within walking distance of Frenchmen St and the Quarter. Susan and her husband David gave us many helpful recommendations, and were themselves a joy to talk to. I recommend it without reservation.
My son Nic and I had an awesome stay in NOLA. Susan and David were the perfect hosts - giving insider tips on cafes, venues and other not-to-miss places! Their place was immaculate on the inside - full of charm and history. The Bywater neighborhood was a fun escape from the hectic Quarter and a great place to sit out on the steps at sunset and sip a glass of wine while neighbors chatted in the street. The music of Frenchmen street was only a 10 minute walk away. It was everything we could have hoped for!
We had an amazing stay at this wonderful Bywater apartment. There are lots of great restaurants located just a few blocks from the apartment and it's only a short walk through a charming neighbourhood to get to the French Quarter. Susan and David, were extremely welcoming and gracious hosts, and they made us feel at home. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who is visiting New Orleans.
Susan and David are the perfect hosts, warm, friendly and inviting. The apartment is super cozy and located in one of the best neighborhoods in NOLA. Delicious cookies too! We ate every single one of them!!
Thanks again for everything!
Our first experience with Airbnb was wonderful thanks to Susan and Dave, our are fabulous hosts. Their home is comfortable and clean. The location is home to some really fine restaurants. Go.
One of the best things about airbnb is having the opportunity to live in and learn about a city through local perspectives. Susan and David were no exception - they are truly warm, welcoming, lovely, kind and open, and we adored every moment of our stay in their charming and beautiful apartment. They shared their vast knowledge of local hotspots, culture and history with us and never hesitated to offer a helping hand if and when we needed it. Unfortunately we were only able to spend three days with them in NOLA, but they made us feel like old friends and we can't wait to stay with them again in the future! Such a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend having them as hosts and Ravenswood Manor as a fabulous, warm, inviting and comfortable place to stay!
Susan and David were excellent hosts! Easy communication leading up to the trip, flexible check-in and out times, and a genuine interest in helping us have the best experience possible in their city. They gave us many great recommendations of things to see and do, and went the extra mile to make us feel at home in the apartment. Their kitchen was well equipped, the bed was comfortable, and the bathtub was perfect for a nice soak with a book. It's maybe a 25-30 minute walk to the center of the French Quarter, but it's a very pleasant walk that allows you to enjoy the unique colors and architecture in the Bywater. Parking is easy for those who rent cars. We had a great time in New Orleans and Susan and David were an important part of that. We would love to stay with them again! Highly recommend.
This was our first experience with renting from a private party. Our Host was most helpful and conscientious and the apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable. Loved the quality sheets and comfortable bed! It was cold when we arrived so Susan had the heaters on and a plate of fresh cookies and brownies. It was quite chilly our first night, but weather was unusual I'm told for the area. We enjoyed walking each day to the French Quarter and eating in nearby restaurants. Susan was even kind enough to take us to her favorite market in town for groceries our first night. The Bywater area was not quite what we expected as far as quality of neighborhood but we never felt uneasy walking about. Very different from where we live, but then that is part of experiencing new places! We stayed 3 nights prior to leaving on a cruise and looking back we are glad we did not stay in the downtown part of New Orleans! Susan and David were great hosts and comfortable people to be around!
Thank you Karen. Like every neighborhood in the city, we are still recovering from a storm that devastated us, government that abandoned us and insurance companies that #**#ed us but we are advancing. Our neighborhood is over 130 years old, I'm glad you and the other 103 guests have experienced it.
Susan and David were perfect hosts. We had one half of their perfectly renovated double-shotgun in the Bywater. It was clean, cozy, and filled with everything we needed and more. Susan is the ambassador extraordinaire for her neighborhood. This was my first time staying in the Bywater, and she gave us a very detailed rundown that saw us through the weekend. You won't go wrong with these two! They'll help you feel like locals!
