Spacious furnished Bywater shotgun apartment. House built in 1897 has 12 foot ceilings, hardwood floors etc. Living area, with futon that converts to a comfy double bed, has pocket doors for privacy, bedroom with full size bed, full well equipped kitchen and full bath. The unit has a private entrance and access to washer/dryer. You have on street parking, wireless, cable tv and a dvd player. It is a short 20 minute walk to the Quarter. The local bus stops just four doors away every hour or it is an inexpensive cab ride to your destination. On peak season rentals (Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest etc.), we prefer a four night minimum and the weekly rates do not apply. We will give special weekly prices where applicable and we promise to be fair! Please note that our space is more suitable for children over the age of twelve and adults.
Great restaurants in the neighborhood (one Zagat rated: Elizabeth's), Cake Cafe, the Country Club,Suis Generis, Maurepas Foods and Satsuma Coffee Shop offer great sandwiches and vegetarian fare. Try The Joint for the best BBQ in NOLA, Bacchanal wine shop also hosts guest chefs and Mimi's in the Marigny, a short walk away, voted the best neighborhood bar in 2009 by local paper Gambit. Our Texas friends refer to our neighborhood as "the real New Orleans"!
Ours is a neighborhood made up of artists, musicians and plain old working class people. It is a dog centric, friendly place to be.
The city bus stops on the corner four doors away. It is a short inexpensive cab ride into the Quarter and about a 20 minute walk.

Great neighborhood, easy access to everything we wanted to do. loved the breakfast recommendation from the host. staying here made for a great new orleans weekend.
If you've gone more than a year or two without a vacation, high expectations are a given. Susan, David, Butch the cat and Ravenswood Manor somehow managed to not only meet those expectations, but blow them straight out of the water.
Their space was beautiful, clean and quiet, with so many personal touches that just screamed of New Orleans, down to the antique radio tuned to a local station which we left on as we unpacked and made ourselves at home. Plenty of towels, wash clothes, fresh water, etc made us want for nothing and I was tickled when Susan showed us frozen eye masks for those that might need it after a night of indulgence. Plus, yes, the cookies were amazing and barely lasted the first two days of our trip. Every restaurant suggested was delicious, and if you skip Elizabeth's, you'll truly regret it.
As hosts, Susan and David were kind, considerate, accommodating and full of suggestions to fully enjoy our trip. As people, they will remain in our hearts as two of the most unique, engaging, downright incredible people we've had the honor of meeting, and hope to one day call our neighbors.
The guest book tells of experiences that meant the world to those who had the pleasure of staying with Susan and David, and we are truly honored to have been given the opportunity to enjoy their hospitality. We're already planning out next trip and counting down the days until we can return back to a place that truly felt like home.
See you in August! 3
THANK YOU DAVID AND SUSAN for your warm welcome and all the great foodie tips! We enjoyed our stay thoroughly! EVERYTHING was PERFECT! We are so happy to see you again in a few months and get a chance to party with you for Halloween! :-)
Susan was an amazing host - very warm and friendly and recommended lots of great places to go around town - as well as the amazing restaurants and small bars in the neighborhood. The apartment was very nice- had everything one could want and more. Both the bed and the futon were super comfortable. The neighborhood is an up and coming neighborhood - very safe and nice to walk around during the day- but take a cab after dark. Highly recommend !!!
Our hosts were wonderful. We felt immediately welcomed and the place was lovely. The photos don't quite do the place justice. Very high ceilings and very cozy. Home made cookies very yummy. The place was as advertised and more. Great neighborhood for very good food, coffee, long walks, and not far to Frenchmen St. & best music in town.
Susan and David were two of the kindest, warmest, most welcoming people we've ever met, and their home was beautiful! We loved hearing their stories about New Orleans characters and the various art pieces that decorate the house. They really know their city and gave us great recommendations for things to eat and do in the neighborhood and elsewhere. The guest apartment was spacious, comfortable, and spotless, with so many lovely little details--slippers, the softest bathrobes ever, even freshly baked cookies! We'd stay at Ravenswood again in a second--missing it already!
We had a wonderful time in Susan and David's charming place in the Bywater! Would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about coming to New Orleans for a visit. They were about the nicest hosts one could hope for, and the rumors about fresh-baked cookies on arrival are true!
I am a decorative painter and faux finish artist. My husband and I are self employed. We enjoy all the city has to offer... the music, art, food, festivals and of course the costuming! We can't imagine living anywhere else. Come and experience the New Orleans we love. Our home is in the heart of the Bywater neighborhood. Our Texas friends call this "The REAL New Orleans"!
