Secluded Mad Men Travel Pad

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Ferguson Ln, Austin, TX 78754, United States

The glamour of Upscale Travel in the 1960s, with the entertainment conveniences of today.

Furnished with meticulously gathered Mid-20th Century Modern vintage originals, you are transported to a secluded enclave of a groovier time.

The Space

Authentic Mid 20th Century Modern Designer Original furnishings.

Secluded location with quick access to all highways and downtown.

1966 Ranch, 640 ft2, 1 BR 1 BA for 3 (5 max with available airbed).

Guest Access

Guests have access to our 1 acre fenced yard and green belt, 8 foot privacy fenced pool and courtyard with grill, dining and Wi-Fi. Fresh fruits, veggies and herbs are growing throughout the yard.

Interaction with Guests

We live on the property with our two dogs, on the opposite side of the house, with 6” stone walls, our dining and living rooms providing additional proximity buffer from our guests. We won’t see you and you won’t see us, except the dog’s morning and evening perimeter walks.

Since we started Hosting, Kelly and I have tried to anticipate and accommodate our guests needs, but sometimes that “special something” wasn’t in the apartment. Need to bake a Wedding cake this weekend? We have apps for that! Just ask. (Stand mixer, additional cake forms, etc.) Otherwise, we assume you did not plan your vacation around hanging out with us. Enjoy!

The Neighborhood

We are on the Republic of Texas Rally gathering route, north entrance of Formula-1 and Austin Executive Airport (quick access to toll way 45/130 will take you directly to the north entrance of the track, at 85 miles per hour, without the hassle of in-town or freeway traffic), US183, Highland Plaza, Capitol Plaza, etc. Shuttle to the airport is available.

Being so close to highways leaves us with chain restaurants within 1 mile, with an amazing array of ethnic and regional restaurants within 5 miles (please see our guidebook, and let us know if you discover a new local gem to pass on to other guests!).

Getting around

If it’s happening in Austin, you can get to it easily from our location.

The "back way" to Downtown Austin from the Apartment is directly south on Springdale Road to Martin Luther King Blvd., which travels right into downtown. Eight minutes.

New Bus stops are being added along Highway 290E. This can connect to the light rail at Highland Mall Transportation Station and terminates at 4th Street downtown for festivals.
The Bus stops at Springdale on HWY290E, but then one half mile walk to the apartment.

Close proximity to Texas highways 290E (one half mile), 183 (1 mile), US Interstate 35 (4 miles), and the 45 & 130 toll ways providing quick and easy access to the Travis County Exposition Center, Walter Long Lake, downtown Austin (12 minutes, 9 miles), and the Circuit of The Americas Formula-1 track. US Highway 290 East is under construction, in a transformation to Manor Expressway. While full access to frontage roads still provides quick and easy access to all surrounding highways, with a quick 15 minutes from our driveway to the airport (AUS – ABIA).

  • Everything we were looking for in a quiet and relaxing Austin retreat. The house had an awesome kitchen and we enjoyed being able to cook meals during our stay. The house was so relaxing we had to force ourselves to go explore Austin! We enjoyed the country feel to the house while it was still within easy driving distance to anywhere we wanted to go visit in Austin. Jake and Kelley were so nice and they were the perfect hosts. We will stay again next time we go to Austin for sure!

  • I had a group of 5 guys stay here and our time here was unforgettable. Not only did I cook 5 meals here over the weekend without wanting for a single pot, pan, utensil, or seasoning; the amentities beyond the kitchen blew us away as well. The guys affectionately refered to the cabinet in the bathroom as "The CVS". With the grocer just 5 minutes down the road and a bus stop half a mile away you shouldn't be wanting for much while staying at this spot on Mad Men Era pad. The dogs on the property were very friendly and except for in passing kept to themselves. The nights here were peaceful, quiet,ⁿ and unintruding.

Jake is a delightful host and was accessible throughout the weekend. His friendliness and respect for privacy are unrivaled. I would definitely recommend him to my friends from out of town.

  • Jake was incredibly warm and welcoming and the house is beautiful.

  • Jake is an exceptionally awesome host and the Mad Men pad is wonderful. Clean, comfortable, quiet and the furniture and details are really great (I need to find myself a sofa like the vintage Knoll one here). You can really relax here and you will feel at home. Highly recommended as a secluded homebase for a stay in Austin.

  • Jake and his furry hosts were very hospitable and accommodating with anything we needed. After a long day of travel, it was a nice relief to meet our host, have him show us around, and provide us a nice cold beer on him! (As well as other delicious italian sodas in the fridge!)

Just the steps he takes to make sure you are comfortable and feeling at home while away from home are amazing. A very clean and nice retro, chic design feel to the place. Plus, having fresh baked treats delivered to your door is enough to make anyone come back!

A really great experience in a great neighborhood. Quiet, peaceful, and relaxing — definitely recommend!

  • Great accommodations and wonderful hosts.

    February 2014
  • Jake was a wonderful host! His apartment is very unique and beautifully decorated! It definitely had a Mad Men feel. He also made us blueberry muffins! My boyfriend and I would love to stay there again. I would highly recommend Jake and the secluded Man Men Pad to anyone who wants to visit Austin!

  • We enjoyed our stay at the Mad Men travel pad. Jake was very welcoming and we appreciated the muffins and well stocked pantry and fridge. We liked the neighbourhood and found the location convenient to all the things we wanted to see around Austin. Jake was very helpful in giving us directions and recommendations. We would definitely recommend staying here to our friends.

  • Very nice location and Jake's hospitality was great. The fridge was filled well upon arrival!

    October 2013
  • Jake was absolutely awesome! I was in Austin for my daughter's wedding and the Mad Men Pad was just up the road. Jake greeted us with warm orange, cranberry bread. He gave us a grand tour and we were free to enjoy ourselves. The apartment was beautifully decorated, comfortable and quiet. We had access to the pool, which was lovely and would have been fun to play in, but it turned cool a day after we got there. We even made my daughter's wedding cake there!!! Jake was available for referrals and directions, but did not 'hover'. We felt like we were 'home'! I would highly recommend staying with Jake. It was incredible!!!
