You will not expect this!
In the popular area Old-West, parallel to the shoppingstreet de Kinkerstraat and close to the Vondelpark and the entertaining Leidse Square, you can find my appartment of approximately 66m2, with a good balcony towards the south, on the second floor.
I bought this apartment and decided to completely rebuild it. I had a couple of specific wishes, like a brick texture wall, a kitchen made of concrete and the extremely heavy metal bathroom door. It took some effort but every piece of furniture has a special story. I transformed a simple apartment into a New York style loft. The urban, metrostyle combined with old family treasures and secondhand furniture found in thriftstores and on the Internet, makes it a special and intimate home.
For your use there is wifi, cable tv and of course central heating.
Parking is possible in the street, but local parking prices are due.
I am clean and take good care of my beloved home. Though, also for you if you would rent my house; good people receive a good treatment!
Just around the corner there is a very long
"shopping" street the "Kinkerstraat" for all your daily needs and more, where you can find a 6-days a week open air
"ten kate" market, also known as a farmers market.
The Hema, a famous big Dutch department store,
boutiques, coffeeshops, restaurants, lunchrooms, bookstores,
a 7-days-a-week-open supermarket, dry cleaner, or a laundry service a cross the street, next to the drugstore/pharmacy,
And a Internet cafe on the corner,
in case you decide to leave your laptop home too ;p
My apartment is only 20 min. from the airport or central station,
The tram and nightbus stop (7&17 tram and the 353 nightbus)
is only a few steps from my house.
Main attractions like the Leidseplein, Museumplein (a square, where all are big museums are located), Vondelpark or the grachtengordel (canals) and it's little 9 streets,
are no more than 10,15, or 20 min. away.
Tram no. 7 will take you to leidseplein with loads of restaurants, bars, and the Leidsestraat "shopping street".
The Leidsestraat leads you to the floating flower market
and the Kalkverstraat, downtown shopping area.
Tram no. 17 will take you into town to the Dam square (and it's monument) and Central Station.
To the Museum plein get on tram no.7 ( direction flevopark)
or tram no.17 (direction Central station). Get off the 2nd stop (Kinkerstraat/Bilderdijkstraat), and take tram no.12 ( direction Amstel station) or tram no.3 (direction Muiderpoort station) it's as everything, very close by.
For the people that can't sleep, the 353 nightbus runs all night
and stops at the same tramstop, takes you straight into town, Leidseplein,
city centre and central station
non will take longer then 5, 10 or 15 minutes ride.
I am sure you will have a pleasant time!
No smoking inside
The loft is exactly like the pictures, nice and cozy, but it is especially convenient for the center; is 2 min walk from the tram 17 and always nearby there is a market to stock up on everything you need. The welcome was also very warm even though we could not know Marijke, but we were still very happy. In summary, thumbs up !
The owner was not there, so we didnt get to meet her, but communication was very fluid at all times.
She left in charge a couple of friends, which, never came to meet us, even though we agreed a day before time of arrival, and, after finally being able to call them (they didnt pick up the first couple of tries) he came 15 minutes after the call.
It was snowing, freezing cold, pregnant wife, and, worst of all, i only had 30 hours in Amsterdam, so, every minute counted.
We ended up coming in the apartment 1 hour after agreed, so i was kind of angry.
Apart from that, he was nice and gave us everything we needed for our stay.
The apartment is nice, though it could use a deep cleaning, specially rugs and couch. Shower does not have a light, so you kind of shower in the dark.
Decor is very nice, kind of industrial, pictures describe it perfectly.
Location is pretty good too, nice area with lots of shops around, and a tram a couple blocks away.
Internet comes and goes as it please, so dont rent this if you need to work or you must use wi fi at all times.
Other than that, pretty good apartment.
Marijke was great and her apartment was an awesome place to stay in Amsterdam. It is close by the metro and a close walk from markets, bars, restaurants, and coffee shops.
Hi we had THE most amazing time at Marijke's amazing flat. The place looks even more gorgeous in real life, and was really clean and homely feeling. Marijke gave us loads of information about the area and some fantastic recommendations for things to do and places to eat ( and we did ALL of them!) and really enjoyed ourselves. We were there for 6 nights and really go to explore the city and the local area. The local area is great and really vibrant. There are great bars and restaurants, a food street market, a huge warehouse complex with street food and shops and a cinema which we explored. We were also really fortunate to have great weather and experience Amsterdam over New Year - the fireworks and bangers were great! Marijke's friend Lara met us at the apartment to give us the keys and show us around, and was really sweet. We were unfortunately delayed by a couple of hours getting there but texted Lara and she was really nice about it and patently waited for us. She met us when we were leaving also so we could drop off the keys, all in a very timely manner which made the whole experience a total pleasure. We really hope to return to Amsterdam and definitely will be asking Marijke if we can stay there again! Over all - AMAZING. Highly recommend it!!!
I never met Marijke, but her apartment was a fine place to stay for a couple days. The management company running it was nice and easy to interact with. Easy access to the tram, for sure! The decor is...interesting, as shown in the photos, but good quality.
Nice, clean place, perfect service with keys. Practical kitchen etc. Friendly to be in contact with. A good place to stay!
Marijke's Apartment was perfect for what we needed. She has a service that brings you the key and shows you around the space. They were incredibly nice and quick with responding.
The apartment is far enough out of the way that you don't have to deal with tourists, but is located by multiple trams to get you where you need to go quickly. The neighborhood has a morning market, so if you're planning on cooking from home you have wonderful produce and olives right there!
Also, if you have a hankering for REAL southern BBQ (slow cooked meats), head over to the Bar Brouw. Having lived in NC and TX, I can tell you these guys do it right. The rib spice profile was just a bit different, but in a good way! Their BBQ sauce is total TX style as well and of course their slaw is amazing because Dutch Mayo is way better than any other mayo!
We are Marijke Vos and Lars van Overbeek. We are an open and friendly couple from Amsterdam. Marijke is a writer and Lars is an Art director for movies.
