You will not expect this!
In the popular area Old-West, parallel to the shoppingstreet de Kinkerstraat and close to the Vondelpark and the entertaining Leidse Square, you can find my appartment of approximately 66m2, with a good balcony towards the south, on the second floor.
I bought this apartment and decided to completely rebuild it. I had a couple of specific wishes, like a brick texture wall, a kitchen made of concrete and the extremely heavy metal bathroom door. It took some effort but every piece of furniture has a special story. I transformed a simple apartment into a New York style loft. The urban, metrostyle combined with old family treasures and secondhand furniture found in thriftstores and on the Internet, makes it a special and intimate home.
For your use there is wifi, cable tv and of course central heating.
Parking is possible in the street, but local parking prices are due.
I am clean and take good care of my beloved home. Though, also for you if you would rent my house; good people receive a good treatment!
Just around the corner there is a very long
"shopping" street the "Kinkerstraat" for all your daily needs and more, where you can find a 6-days a week open air
"ten kate" market, also known as a farmers market.
The Hema, a famous big Dutch department store,
boutiques, coffeeshops, restaurants, lunchrooms, bookstores,
a 7-days-a-week-open supermarket, dry cleaner, or a laundry service a cross the street, next to the drugstore/pharmacy,
And a Internet cafe on the corner,
in case you decide to leave your laptop home too ;p
My apartment is only 20 min. from the airport or central station,
The tram and nightbus stop (7&17 tram and the 353 nightbus)
is only a few steps from my house.
Main attractions like the Leidseplein, Museumplein (a square, where all are big museums are located), Vondelpark or the grachtengordel (canals) and it's little 9 streets,
are no more than 10,15, or 20 min. away.
Tram no. 7 will take you to leidseplein with loads of restaurants, bars, and the Leidsestraat "shopping street".
The Leidsestraat leads you to the floating flower market
and the Kalkverstraat, downtown shopping area.
Tram no. 17 will take you into town to the Dam square (and it's monument) and Central Station.
To the Museum plein get on tram no.7 ( direction flevopark)
or tram no.17 (direction Central station). Get off the 2nd stop (Kinkerstraat/Bilderdijkstraat), and take tram no.12 ( direction Amstel station) or tram no.3 (direction Muiderpoort station) it's as everything, very close by.
For the people that can't sleep, the 353 nightbus runs all night
and stops at the same tramstop, takes you straight into town, Leidseplein,
city centre and central station
non will take longer then 5, 10 or 15 minutes ride.
I am sure you will have a pleasant time!
Stayed at Marijke's for 4 nights and although I didn't meet her in person, she was very helpful over email! (Douwe helped me get settled) Marijke's flat was lovely and in a good location- not too far from the city (I ended up just walking everywhere!) but not too close either so it was nice and quiet. Also the supermarket is just around the corner, which was great and convenient! The only thing I would point out is that the shower + sink area of the bathroom is a bit dark, but it was still totally manageable. I had a wonderful time in Amsterdam! Thanks again Marijke!
Many thanks for a great apartment! We had awesome time in Amsterdam!
Hi, we stayed at Marijke's place too. It is as nice as it looks from the pictures. Lovely morning sunshine to the balcony. She has everything you need in the flat. Perfect location on a quiet street but close to the bus station and tramways. easy to get to oldtown and to the airport. There is a grocery store nearby and nice local cafes. Would agree with the comments of others and would definetely recommend it.
We spent 5 days in Marijke's home and couldn't have been more pleased. I was met at the apartment by Lauressa and she was very helpful with information about the major points of interest. She even came back to the apartment that first night to show me how to (safely) use the oven since I'm not familiar with gas ovens. The Ten Katestraat tram stop was just a block away so it was very easy getting into downtown. Even if you wanted to walk, the trip to downtown was not bad at all. There was also a grocery store 2 blocks away which was very helpful. There are 2 flights of stairs to climb so just be prepared if you have lots of luggage. Luckily, I only had 1 bag. The apartment itself was a pleasant surprise. The pictures do not do it justice. The bed was amazing and the table was much bigger than I was expecting. The only difficulty I had was trying to figure out the correct train to take from the airport to catch the tram to the Ten Katestraat stop. It's not quite as easy to figure out as other public transportation systems. I would suggest just asking one of the train employees. Also, after reading other reviews, I made sure to bring a little mirror since there's not a tremendous amount of light in the bathroom...but that is a very minor issue. I would recommend this apartment to any of my family and friends. Thanks, Marijke!!
All in all a lovely stay. Very nicely decorated and a comfy bed. My only disappointment was not realising this is a studio apartment and doesn't have a separate bedroom. My partner had travelled from the USA and was jet lagged so we could have done with more privacy so not to disturb each other.
The area was about 20 minute walk from the main town and 10 minutes from the Vondelpark.
I stayed here with my girlfriend for four nights - the flat is wonderful, in a terrific location, and Marijke was an ideal host. I was also given useful guidance on the local surroundings, trams to the airport etc. I would highly recommend the flat to anyone.
Marijke was very friendly and her apartment is beautiful! The place is filled with vintage treasures and artistic twists. We enjoyed our stay very much. The bed is huge and the linen is very comfortable!
Marijke's loft style apartment was great. It has a industrial style and cosy atmosphere... which is very cool...We really had great memories. It is very close to city centre... Tram is just 2 minutes away from the apartment and also u just need to walk 2-3 minutes to market area... Shops, supermarket, restaurants and pubs r nearby... Thanks for sharing with us..
Cool apartment, great location. Would go back.
Wow! This apartment is amazing. Looks just like in the photos. Kitchen is well equipped, the bed is unbelievably comfy and HUGE. Friendly, knowledgable staff met us on arrival. Will most definitely be booking this place again.
