One room has a queen size bed, the other a double. The bathroom, toilet, lounge, dining area and kitchenette are all separate to the bedrooms. Our aim is to provide our guests with a comfortable, relaxing place to be whilst travelling. The décor is an easy, eclectic collection of different styles. When we first came to view the section our property is built on, we loved the feeling of peacefulness and privacy. the birdlife and that we got that feeling of being away from it all yet, close to the township. For our guests, Tommy's Place is a great place to unwind after a busy day sightseeing.
The wharf, Maritime Building, visitor information centre and township of Paihia are all within a 10 minute walk from Tommy's Place. There are taxis and 1 tuk tuk should you need to use them.
For all guests using their own vehicles, we have free, private, off street parking.
Paihia is approximately a 3 hour drive north of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. It is an easy, scenic drive with many places to stop and rest. From the Auckland Harbour Bridge, follow S.H.1 to Kawakawa. Sue and her husband were very welcoming hosts and did everything to make us feel at home. The accommodation is first class, clean and with a stunning view. being high up in the forest was a real treat and we enjoyed hearing all the birds. Home made biscuits were lovely too!
Staying at Tommy's Place in Paihia was fantastic.Paihia is a picturesque seaside town and Sue was a great host. Tucked up in the hills just above the village with a view of the bay, Tommy's place accomodated 4 of us very nicely for the week. We couldn't have asked for more and did not want to leave.
I would definitely recommend Sue's place. It is very comfortable and Sue is friendly and knowledgable about Paihea so can answer any questions. The guest area is set up for comfort with an eating area, a lounge area and a deck. Sue welcomed us with a plate of fruit, and had bread and cereal available forbreakfasts. I did not want to leave. I like being looked after.
Sue and Steve have created such a warm and welcoming place to stay. Lots of lovely extra touches that made us so comfortable. They were very accepting of our toddler and his antics.
A warm welcome by Sue & Steve. As described. Great place. Amazingly, the band noise from Pahia waterfront makes its way up the hillside until 23:00 on Friday & Saturday nights (that's when we were there). Sue gave us good advice for eating, directions and was a gracious host. We recommend Tommy's for future stay. Home is very nice in decor and Sue gave that extra notice to comfort.
Directions was sent and that made it easy to locate after a long drive. The place is great with all amenities and despite being only 5 minutes walk to town it is isolated and quiet. Sue & Steve gave some good tips as to what to do, where to go and where to eat. Great drive to Cape Reinga and also boat cruise.
Hi there. We are Steve & Sue. We moved to Paihia from Auckland in 1996. When we first came to Paihia, we owned & ran a successful backpacker's lodge we called "Tommys Backpackers Lodge". After 6 very busy years, we sold & moved onto other things. Now we have come full circle & opened up our home for travellers to enjoy. We have travelled ourselves & enjoy sharing travel stories & learning of new places to visit. Our dream is to buy a mobile home & travel the length & breadth of NZ 1st, then become 'grey nomads' overseas. Steve works outside the home; Sue runs the apartment.
