Response from Lisa:

Ryan you are so awesome! I'm so sorry I never got to review you as well, having a 2 year old really makes the time disappear! Anyways, it was a joy meeting you both (My son Nainoa was equally ecstatic!) & so glad that you guys had a good time! I hope you can come back again soon and maybe then Nainoa will be old enough to take you to some of his favorite spots on the island! I give repeat guest discounts (outside of peak periods) so keep my info handy!

Response from Lisa:

So sorry again Curtis for the miscommunication. Your itinerary emailed to us stated a 2pm arrival, which is when my housekeeper is usually finishing up so she offered to wait & do the check-in. But she said you had called to change it to 7pm that day after you landed so she explained that she needed to run upcountry to make a drop at the animal sanctuary then be back. Unfortunately she didn't have service deep in Haiku when you tried calling at around 5pm. Danielle did try to call her too but seeing that she was out of range & knowing where she was, decided to just give you the lockbox code. We do apologize for the 20 minute wait but we try to explain that we do not have a 24 hr front desk so if people don't call ahead to give us at least an hour notice, they may have to wait. So, setting a 7pm time and then showing up around 5pm is going to probably incur a wait regardless because nobody is required to sit and wait around for guests to show up, we try to be around close to the arrival time. Sherrell was expecting a 7pm arrival & planned to be back before then to take the sheet out of the dryer to finish the bed. And there were clean towels in the trash bag, extra ones she was taking home with her. It was unfortunate that she left the laundry undone with the intention of coming back before 7pm. But she had found a baby bird & wanted to drop it off before the shelter closed. She was going to go at 2pm after checking you in but when you changed the time she made a poor decision. But as there was no complaint at the time, Sherrell said that you were very thankful & nice, Danielle didn't feel there was a problem, though we also didn't consider a 20 minute wait being that long since the arrival was 2 hrs earlier than planned and also without notice beforehand that you were coming earlier. As an owner with a 2 year old & a working husband, it might've taken me longer to get over there because I'd have to bring my son and it sometimes takes 20 minutes alone for me to be able to get everything together to leave the house. So, we do ask for notice, at least 30 min but an hour is better because we don't have a front desk staff on hand 24/7, it's usually just me. Again, my apologies for the miscommunication. And I will look into the bed as well. I didn't realize it was uncomfortable for you, but had you called to tell us we could have told you to use the sofabed in the living room, which is only a year old and is very comfortable. I just wish that you had relayed your unhappiness immediately rather than after you left because we would've tried our best to make things better. But without knowing anything we weren't able to do anything so we are sorry for that.
