There are views of big tress & wildlife all around. It is upstairs & shares a living room w/ a large sofa, bar area & ping-pong table.

The Jungle House, in the heart of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, is a natural and artistically designed, rustic style vacation home on the beach.

Accommodations at The Jungle House are 7 rooms in a safe & secure two story, 3400 square foot house built to make you feel intertwined with the natural environment. The Upstairs, which you'll be renting has the 2 best rooms.

It feels secluded because we are totally surrounded by big trees, and the Pacific Ocean is 100 meters out the backyard. There are no neighbors to the left or right, and out the front gate is the lively main street with shops & restaurants.

We have a large kitchen with quality cooking utensils for making your own meals, and saving money. The kitchen is shared with anyone that stays downstairs.

There is great food in town, you can get delicious veggies, herbs, fruits, eggs and fish. I can have fresh fish delivered to you almost daily too. There is a big BBQ area, as well.

The Jungle House consistently gets great reviews online. Book your Santa Teresa Costa Rica vacations with us on AirBnB today...

With one of Central America's best beach breaks right outside our backyard, it is perfect for a Costa Rica surf vacation. We host yoga retreats & surf schools at the Jungle House too.

Forbes Magazine ranked Santa Teresa, Costa Rica one of the top ten most breathtaking beaches in the world! Its lush tropical scenery, volcanic rock formations, an abundance of wildlife, and proximity to outdoor adventure activities make it one of the best beach towns in Costa Rica.

Although The Jungle House is oceanfront, you cannot see the Pacific Ocean due to the dense foliage. To get to the beach & main surf break, it's just a 5 minute walk out our gate to a public path.

You’ll definitely feel that you’ve entered an exotic jungle since it is common to see many species of animals through the windows and in the backyard of the house, including groups of Howler Monkeys, iguanas, butterflies, and a wide variety of birds.

The setting is great for all kinds of outdoor activities. You can learn to surf, practice yoga, or participate in the many activities offered like, canopy tours, day trips to waterfalls, horseback riding, or just chilling at the beach.

Amenities include ceiling fans, use of all amenities on the second level including a small kitchen upstairs, 10 person leather couch, Wi-Fi internet, ping pong table, use of the large, modern common kitchen, outdoor BBQ, Yoga Studio/Large Rancho w/ Tiki Bar.

The main surf break is 5 minutes away for all levels and abilities, warm water and air temps year round, with natural tide pools a few minutes away.

We're conveniently located near small grocery stores, shopping, surf shops, and nightlife.

Santa Teresa is a very cool town with a lot of great restaurants. It is just a few minutes walking to all the action.

We have safe parking if you rent a car. We can arrange a van driver to bring you here directly from San Jose airport. The best way to get here, though, is by flying in a small plane from San Jose to Tambor airport. Check Sansa for the latest prices. It's a 45 minute car ride from Tambor to The Jungle House. Once at Tambor, with advance notice we will coordinate a pick up.

Why not give yourselves something to look forward to, starting right now? Book your escape to Santa Teresa’s Jungle House today!

I can also set up your tours & activities, like surf lessons, deep-sea fishing trips, kayak adventures, or zip lining.

The Neighborhood

Many visitors comment that this section of Santa Teresa is the coolest part of town. Restaurants & markets, surf shops, and the main beach path are all right out our front door. This little section between Super Ronny #2 & the beach path at Brunela Hostel is always alive with people walking to & from the beach, and going out to eat & drink. There are people from all over the world, and you get a really free feeling as you walk around without a care in the world, meeting other people having a great time too.

Getting around

You can walk everywhere you really need to go. A lot of people rent quads, some rent cars; either way there is plenty of space & security to park them. The direct bus to the airport & downtown San Jose picks you up right in front of the house everyday at 6 am & 2 pm.

  • What an amazing get away! Joe's Jungle House was our first stop in Costa Rica as we traveled and it was one of our favorites by far. Very clean and open with beautiful details throughout the house. Joe was so helpful, nice and fun. We enjoyed our time with him, at the house and in Santa Teresa.

The Jungle House
I love to travel, have visitors, and meet cool people from around the world. My favorite travel destinations are tropical ones with beautiful beaches, and mountains to hike around in. To me there is nothing better than swimming in the ocean, running on the beach, and eating fresh fish & fruit. I also like to visit big cities. My other favorite activity is exploring big, old cities. In the U.S., my favorite ones are New York & San Francisco. I've been to Tokyo, Bangkok, Paris, Rome, and Rio de Janeiro. There are still a lot more mega cities on the list, like Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Madrid, Milano, Berlin, and Shanghai. The best vacation reading I recommend is Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates, Villa Incognito, and Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins. I also highly recommend The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie. I learned Spanish in Caracas, Venezuela in an exchange program at Centro Venezolano Americano. I taught English & learned Spanish in the school, and made many wonderful friends. Then I worked as a journalist at The Daily Journal, the English language newspaper of Venezuela. That was a great experience because I was the cultural reporter and wrote about the arts, theater, music, and dance scenes in Caracas. I also got to meet & interview most of the ambassadors stationed there, and write reports about their countries, and the activities of their embassies in Venezuela. I ended up living there for three years and having a fabulous time. Then I traveled around Colorado, Oregon, and California selling Venezuelan artesanía at art fairs in mountain towns. I hung out in Berkeley for awhile until my uncle convinced me I ought to move to Maui. That was a great idea! I moved to Maui to go to massage school and stayed 5.5 years having a good time. I worked as a massage therapist at a hotel on the beach and was a DJ at night. I got to DJ for many wonderful weddings in gorgeous Hawaiian settings. I also held down a great Friday night party at Jacques' in Paia for four years. That was a blast, and I got to meet cool music lovers from all over the world. I'm really into funky music from across the globe. I love 70s funk, new funk, & Brazilian Samba Soul. I'm a huge jazz fan too. Reggae & Dub are right up there as well. I love African Soukous, and other joyful African dance music. Salsa & Samba are a couple of my favorites too. I love happy, melodic, poly-rhythmic music from anywhere. My style of travelling is to live as local as possible. It is fun to meet people from there, or ex-patriates that have been there a long time, wherever it may be. I often travel to visit a friend that lives in a cool place. When I go to exotic places I like to travel to learn something -- the language (like I did in Italy) or Thai Massage (like I did in Chiang Mai). I like to go places to do outdoor stuff too, like trekking in La Gran Sabana in Venezuela. I also like to go to big cities and just eat & drink my way around funky neighborhoods like The East Village NYC, or wandering ancient streets in Rome. Travelling for a music fest is great too. I really want to go to the Montreal Jazz Fest. I look forward to being a very welcoming host. You can expect to hear music that makes you happy, and find a host that is eager to listen to your stories. And, I also know when to leave you alone to relax, or go do your own thing. I'm the host & manager of The Jungle House, a big rustic vacation home with 6 rooms, 150 feet from the beach, and surrounded by jungle. I am making it available to independent teachers -- yoga, massage therapy, surf guides, ecologists/naturalists, photography, watercolor, etc. -- that want to bring their students down for a learning retreat in paradise. And, of course, I'l have rooms for rent to new friends from AirBnB. My motto is explore the world and invite others in to share what you've learned.
