Charming 227 year old farm house in rural New Hampshire yet close to highways, Concord, and hiking trails. The Contoocook River runs along our property where you can canoe, kayak, paddleboard and swim. across the street is Elm Brook State Park for more swimming, picnic, and scenic trail opportunities. And we have hot tub to soak in and a fire pit to enjoy!

The space

Breakwind Farm is 226 year old 6 acre farm located in a quaint and rural community just outside of Concord NH. In the summer months we have a small organic herb and vegetable garden and sell our produce at our stand and at the local Farmers Markets.

Our property runs along the Contoocook River where you can cross country ski or snowshoe in the winter, and swim and explore by canoe or kayak in the summer. We are also within walking distance to Elm Brook Park with walking/xcountry ski trails, swimming, picnic and recreational facilities. For downhill skiing, scenic vistas, auto road and hiking, Pat's Peak is a 10 minute drive, Mount Kearsage State Park is 20 and Mount Sunapee, less 30 minutes. If you like the adventure of snowmobiling, mountain biking, dirt biking or ATV riding, bring your vehicles because we have 2 parks located near us; Clough State Park in Weare, NH, and the Hopkinton-Everett Recreation park down the street. Love golf? Duston Country Club golf club is a ten minute drive.

Our town may be rural but the capital of New Hampshire, Concord, is just 15 minutes away where you have access to shopping, restaurants and cultural events. The White Mountains, Boston and seacoast are also within 1- 1 1/2 hours by car or bus. As you can see there is no shortage of activities in the area, however if you would just like to sit and watch the garden grow, please feel free to enjoy the solitude, or we would always welcome help with gardening and picking vegetables if you are so inclined.

In the evening, relax by the fire pit and enjoy the sound of the peepers and crackling fire, or indulge in the warmth of the outdoor hot tub (except July and August).

Come and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and traffic and enjoy the country life for a few days or a week. You will feel refreshed and renewed and won't be disappointed us, you'll probably never want to go back!

We usually have one or two bedrooms available, one with a full and twin bed, the other with one full bed (see our other listing under 1790 Farmhouse #2). Our one bathroom is shared and downstairs while your bedroom is upstairs. You can use the kitchen, dining room, 3 season room, living room, porch, hot tub (in season), grill and outdoor eating area. If you have a larger crowd, we also have plenty of space available for campers! We also use one of our bedrooms to host helpers from all over the world to work at Breakwind. We have a friendly dog and a cat.
*small disclaimer: If you have a dog that travels with you, please let us know. As long as your pet is not left in our house when you are away and you have a bed or crate he/she can sleep in, we will be happy to accomodate you both!

We spent 2 nights at Patti and Rick's house and enjoyed the stay. They are extremely hospitable and though the house isn't fancy, it's very comfortable and they are accommodating hosts. The countryside around them is beautiful.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Patti and Rick's farmhouse. The property is situated in such a tranquil and beautiful location, it is a great escape for those of us who live in the city. Patti and Rick were friendly and welcoming, the bedroom was spacious (beds very comfortable), and the house had an overall welcoming and warm feel to it. You can explore the lovely farm and the river running right behind it, while you breathe the fresh, clean air. What more could you ask? Such a peaceful location yet the State Capital of Concord is only a 15 min drive. What really made our stay was Patti & Rick's friend and assistant, Sam. Sam provided us with endless local hints, tips, advice and delicious snacks of locally harvested fresh fish and vegetables. Thanks Sam! We hope to be back!

Break Wind Farm is a delightful, homey, step back to a quieter, simpler time. Our hosts were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Our 5 night stay was comfortable and exactly met our needs to be near local friends, family in the Concord area, easy access to the Manchester airport as well as the lakes and coast. We look forward to a returning.

Rick and Patti are wonderful hosts. I felt honored to be a guest in their warm and cozy 200 year old farm home. Trixie their cat, works at night and greets you in the morning. The bed is very comfortable and tons of pillows available. There is a room air conditioner so one can control the temperature of the room. Fresh flowers, robes and sandals were unexpected bonuses. I would definitely go back.

Breakwind Farms was just what we were looking for. Nice, comfortable and clean place to stay outside of Concord in a lovely setting. Hosts were great in sharing kitchen space, helping with a request for a vase for flowers and in providing local recommendations. Will stay there again next time we are passing through.

I had hung our peace sign in our home's front window in St. Louis, MO, about 9 months ago. When I saw Rick and Patti's peace sign on the side of their barn, I knew they'd be a great choice for our stay and they were! We were greeted by their friend, Sam, for check-in, as Patti and Rick were celebrating their son's birthday at that moment. Sam was personable, showed us around the house promptly, and was attentive to any needs we might have. All were great conversationalists, with open minds and loving hearts. Patti quickly became my son's (his words), "adopted grandma", as she talked, played and visited with him all evening. Sam made us a late night snack of delicious pasta he wipped up, despite our protests to not go out of his way. Rick provided inside intel on a few fishing spots and I found myself catching a fish in one of his recommended spots. All are salt-of-the earth folks and the home was clean, homey, and as described. We recommended highly!

My Husband and I run a small organic garden and sell our vegetables at a stand outside our house.

We purchased our 6 acre 1790 farmhouse 7 years ago and have been slowly renovating the house and working on the gardens. We added solar electric and hot water in an ongoing effort to become self sustaining in the next few years. We both love to travel, especially if we can ski and snowboard, but most of our free time is spent working in the gardens and renovating. Some of the bedrooms upstairs need updating. They are all clean and cozy, but the wallpaper is peeling in spots and it does show its age, so it is rustic but quite quaint.

During the summer months we use one of our 3 spare bedroom to host helpers from all over the world through sites like Workaway, Helpx and WWOOF. Our helpers lend a hand with our gardens, farm stand and markets in exchange for room and board. We very much enjoy conversing with them and learning about others cultures and lifestyles.

We look forward to welcoming our Airbnb guests and sharing all that Breakwind Farm has to offer!
