Beautiful Historic New England Home

House - Private room · Joslin Rd, Surry, NH 03431, United States

The Space

Welcome to my quiet, peaceful home located in rural New Hampshire. I live on a dirt road with beatuiful walks right out my front door, yet I am a quick 15 minute drive to both downtown Keene, New Hampshire and Walpole, New Hampshire.

The downstairs is shared space including a well-equipped kitchen, dining room with a wood stove, living room, multipurpose room with a brick fireplace, and screened-in porch.

The upstairs is yours. You will have a large private bedroom with a queen-size bed, an office space with a desk, and a private bathroom with a shower. Linens and towels are provided. There is also a second bedroom upstairs that you can rent for an extra fee.

The yard is lovely with vegetable and flower gardens, an in-ground pool, a fire-pit, and noises of my neighbor's chickens and goats.

From my home it is a 10-minute drive to Surry Mountain Lake, Surry Dam, Goose Pond, Stonewall Farm, and a local swimming hole in the Ashuelot River. My home is a 15-minute drive to downtown Keene where you can enjoy many, wonderful, local restaurants and then enjoy an evening of live performance or film at the Colonial Theatre. If you drive 15 minutes in the other direction then you will be in Walpole, New Hampshire the home of Burdick's chocolate cafe and restaurant. You will also be within 30-minutes of Mt. Monadnock, Gap Mountain, and Pitcher Mountain. These are all lovely hikes with varying levels of difficulty from very easy to moderately strenuous.

I can't wait to share my home with you.

  • Veronica's house was a fabulous place to stay while I was in Keene for a conference. Guests have exclusive use of a large bedroom, bathroom, and a hall with a writing desk. It is also possible to use Veronica's kitchen, which has all the necessary cooking equipment.

The house is located on a beautiful, wooded street, about seven miles (15 minutes) from downtown Keene. I arrived during daylight and had no trouble finding it. Guests who are coming in the evening should pay close attention to their odometers, so they don't miss the turn. It helps to know that there are several houses just before Joslyn Road (after a long stretch of woods).

Veronica was waiting for me when I arrived, and gave me a nice tour of the house. After that, I didn't actually see her--I left early each morning and returned around 10 pm. Both she and her dog are extremely quiet, so it is easy to get a great night's sleep.

  • We loved our stay here and Veronica is a wonderful host! The house is located in a beautiful natural environment, is spotless clean and very welcoming.

Veronica helped us plan our hike and gave us useful tips to make our trip really enjoyable. Oh and the muffins for breakfast were delicious!

About
I love to cook, read, take walks with my dog, workout, do yoga and improv dance. I dream of a compassionate, peaceful world and hunger to care for people. I absolutely love to host! My out-of-town friends encouraged me to open up my house to other visitors, because hosting comes so naturally to me and I live in such a beautiful part of the world. I can be an active or quiet host- depending on what you would like. I am happy to share my favorite places with you and to give you tips and directions. Join me for a meal and a walk, or I am also happy to give you peace and quiet. I love to travel and have been to Samoa, Fiji, China, Japan, Ireland, Scotland, Russia, 47 of the United States, all 10 Canadian Provinces, and the Caribbean. I love to stay with local people when I travel and to give back to the communities that I visit. As much as I love to travel, I still believe that I live in the most beautiful place in the world. Home is where the heart is- and my home is in small-town New Hampshire.
