The Space

Our home is unique because it is filled with art, mid-century décor and the cutest, friendliest bundle of cat you have ever met, named Pete. You will be staying with two professional artists. Myself, Betty, a painter and written word artist and Jonathan, a published playwright and actor. Plus our cat has 26 toes!

The apartment is large with two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining/living room and plenty of closet space. The building features a video intercom system and security cameras.

Features: high speed internet, kitchen and common space use, travel guide books for tourism and local things to do.

Area: we are just two blocks from the subway in a very safe and beautiful area of Brooklyn.

Guest Access

Kitchen, bathroom, closet, guest bedroom, living room and dining area.

Interaction with Guests

As much or as little as our guests would like. We are happy to tell you all about the city, supply directions or museum/event information, share our favorite restaurants, and more!

The Neighborhood

Our section of Bed-Stuy is on the border of Clinton Hill. Many restaurants including: Senegalese, Japanese, Soul Food (Peaches is the BEST), American grills, coffee shops, and so many more. Grocery store is two blocks from the building, laundry is also just two blocks, as well as the subway. The neighborhood features 3 large community gardens, a large park and a farmers market every Saturday. (We will provide you with a list of the local delights.)

Getting around

The train is 2 blocks away! We have 5 buses within 3 blocks and an additional 2 subway lines within 10 blocks. It's super easy to get around.

Street parking is available and ample, and free :-)

Contact us for directions from any of the three major airports or the two small airports near NYC

Other Things to Note

We have a very friendly cat, if you have allergies this is not a good place to stay. He will get everyone he meets to love him.

  • Betty and Jonathan (and Pete) helped make sure we had a great stay in NYC and provided a good base to explore the city from. The neighborhood feels safe and is nice and quite, so you can have a good nights rest in the very comfortable bed in the big guest room. They are very nice and welcoming people that leave it to you to decide how much you want to interact, and they will provide you with whatever information (and more) that you are in need of.
    Very recommendable!

  • Betty, Jon and Pete were lovely hosts. We really enjoyed meeting them and staying in their lovely apartment. They were helpful and we felt very comfortable from the moment we arrived. There is great pizza, dominican and coffee all within 1 or 2 blocks and the subway is right nearby so getting anywhere is super easy. Pete is an adorable and super affectionate cat - we love him! Thank you for having us!

  • Betty and Jonathan (and even the cat, Pete) were awesome! Nothing negative to say here. Comfortable room, good location, very fair price, and my girlfriend and I were made to feel welcome right when we arrived.

I would definitely recommend this place. Thanks again, Betty and Jon!

  • The host is really worth recommendation, Betty and Jon are helpful, friendly and kind, the flat is near to the metro station and shop. It is great location for sightseeing NYC. Neighborhood is really quite and safe, there are schools around. There is good chinese food near to the metro station - it is cheap and tasty. You have to like cats to stay there, because Pete is really adorable. But there is no possibility to not like their cat. He loves guests.

5 things I couldn't live without... Someone to talk to, something to make art with, a few good books, coffee, my family. What is it like to have me as a host? I'm pretty relaxed, but really enjoy getting to know people who are passing through. I used to (email hidden) apartment in NYC and loved getting to know people from all over the country and world. So I will listen to what ever you want to tell me and share with you the cool places I like to go. Books I like: first hand or historical accounts of dealing with mental illness or other chronic diseases (such as Lincoln's Melancholy or Kay Redfield Jamison's books), science fiction (Ender's Game, the Demolished Man, The Stars My Destination) Movies I like: Fight Club, To Kill A Mockingbird, Run Lola Run, Eraserhead, and anything with creepy children that scare me. Life's Motto: You will know the answer, just listen for it. Travel Destinations: I like geological formations. Fire State Park, Nevada is one of my favorite so far. the Bear Caves of Western New York. High Rocks in Pennsylvania. Food: Macrobiotic delights, fish, rice, veggie dishes. I love to cook. Music: Bob Marley, Cowboy Junkies, Earl Grant, Marvin Gaye, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, Taj Mahal, Mississippi John Hurt, Counting Crows, Leon Russell, Patsy Cline, Woody Guthrie.
