Interaction with Guests
As much as possible or invisible if you want. I will try to meet with arriving guests and show them the area. Whenever guests need information or recommendations, I am always available via messaging or phone.
The Sheung Wan neighbourhood is ever changing and a fantastic mix of "old' and "new" Hong Kong. This apartment is located in the heart of Hong Kong's commercial, cultural and shopping districts and within short walking distance to the subway and HK Macau Ferry Pier. A few minutes walk away from the harbour front and the fantastic Sun Yat Sun Memorial Park and Public swimming pool over look the world famous Victoria Harbor.
The Sheung Wan MTR station is but 8 min walking distance away that takes you all over Hong Kong and Kowloon. There are also buses, trams, minibuses that run near the doorstep of the building on Des Voeux Road West Road and take you to every corner of the island and beyond.
Other Things to Note
Once you arrive in Hong Kong, everything is quite simple and all starts with a call from the FREE phones at the airport located in the hall immediately after you pass through baggage customs. There is also a Visitors Center there if you would like to pick up some maps, local travel guides, etc. to read on your way to the apartment. If you need a local SIM card, there is a 7-11 in the middle section of the main arrival hall where they see all types of SIM cards, I usually prefer the PCCW brand as it is the larges local operator.
This is a Strictly NON SMOKING Flat.
UPON ARRIVAL AT PROPERTY, ALL GUESTS MUST WAIT FOR ME AT THE FRONT GATE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING. BUILDING RESIDENTS WILL COMPLAIN TO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT IF THE LOBBY AREA INSIDE BUILDING IS BLOCKED. THANKS FOR YOUR KIND UNDERSTANDING FOR AN ENJOYABLE STAY.
Check in time is AFTER 12:30 pm. Make sure to contact us by phone at least 30 minutes prior to arrival such that we can meet you at the flat to hand you the keys and acquaint you to the surroundings. As this is a family business, please try your best to arrive at the apartment as early as possible. After 11:30pm as transport to the apartment is limited for us, we have to charge HKD150 to cover our taxi transport cost to and from the apartment. We are generally exhausted at the end of the day and we really would rather you arrive early and not have to charge this.
Guests must wait for us OUTSIDE the building upon arrival and not enter the building without us as this causes unnecessary misunderstandings with the property management and residents of the buildings.
Check out time is STRICT at 11:00 am. NO EXCEPTIONS or you will be charged for an extra full day. Our cleaning crew will arrive at 11:00 am to service the flat for the next guest, thanks for your cooperation.
Please help us save the environment by turning off electrical appliances when leaving the apartment or not using them.
Water heater needs to be turned off when not using. If it breaks due to prolonged time left on, you will not have any hot water for your stay and will be subject to expensive repair charges.
In the case that you have an evening departure flight:
Please note that you can check in your luggage at anytime during the same day as your flight at the Hong Kong Station Airport Express, which is only a 5 minute taxi or bus ride from the apartment. That way you would be free to explore the city on your last day, not having to worry about your luggage or rushing to the airport since you have already checked in, you will not have to be at the airport as early as everyone else.
All airlines flying from Hong Kong airport offer In Town check in, EXCEPT the following:
Jetstar Asia Airlines
It was very easy to contact and connect with the hosts. The room had everything I needed, Metro map, adapter, towels, common toiletries. I had a great stay, the room was clean and as depicted. The room is a bit small but that's just how it is in HK.
The apartment is very nice. It's small but convenient. Our host Ms. Brend is very helpful and nice. We have to apologize because that we accidentally messed up the lockset on the door, our nice host forgave us and got it repaired immediately for safety, we feel very sorry and it's very kind of our host.
We have a nice stay here. Checking in and out was smooth. The apartment is nice and has good location. It is really good for a short stay in HK.
Brendan is a very welcoming host and if there is a problem we can easily call . positive : it's fine for passing tourists who don't want to cook especially and stay inside , bed is comfortable, it is very well placed , in the heart of Sheung Wan, next to bus and tram , subway 10 minutes. Good place from which to explore the city. Negative : The apartment is especially humid. But We stayed 20 days in Hong Kong and when we visit, we do not stay at home. I recommend
Brendan is a good host. The information he gave me really helped me to get settled down in HongKong.
The apartment had everything I need, fridge, Wifi, water heater, toiletires and some basic information about HongKong.
There are also restaurants, convenience stores and malls near the apartment. The location is conveniently located near SheungWan MTR as well. All in all, it was a good stay for me and my friend.
The place is as advertised. Clean but small. It is a room inside an apartment with around 6-7 rooms. The place is next to an alley on the first floor, it can be quite noisy in the morning as I suspect someone is throwing rubbish at 5 am in the morning. The TV is hanging at a too high position in the living room but only one chair is provided so it is quite hard to enjoy the TV if more than 1 person staying there. The blanket is a bit too thin as we felt quite cold during the time we stayed. Hopefully there will be a thicker blanket for the winter season. Brendan is very responsive n whenever I have question she is just a phone call away. The wifi is a bit weak n only work in a certain places in the apartment. All n all it is a budgeted place if you only look for a bed.
It was good to host Winnie at our flat. Yes, this is a small flat, as seen on the pictures. It's great for guests that want to get out and enjoy the city and have a nice, clean and safe place to come home to. It's really quiet inside the flat and no one makes much noise there. Hope you enjoyed your stay.
The one unfortunate, material complaint about this rental experience arises from our original meeting at the flat. Firstly, having to meet at a particular time is a hassle; most places allow you to check in any time after, say 2 or 3 PM. Brendan wanted me to call her when I landed in HK, but this was unnecessary, as our meeting plan was to meet at the flat at precisely 1 PM. I made this clear in 2 emails that I would not bother to phone her but would be at the flat precisely at 1 PM. Being a military guy, I am very precise with my communication and logistics. She was only about 5-10 minutes late, which is no big deal, but when she asked me why I did not phone her, I reminded her of the emails, both of which she responded to and therefore was aware of. Her reply was a very quick and impatient, “OK well you can just NOT rent the room if you like. How about that?” I was flabbergasted. So to summarize, as a result of my mere mentioning of this minor logistics SNAFU, which I didn’t even really care about, and after having the reservation in place for a full month prior to arrival, Brendan was prepared to throw me into the street without having any other reservation. This would have precipitated a mini-emergency, being in HK and without a reservation for lodging, and she was VERY aware of this. It was only through groveling that I was even able to maintain the room reservation and not be tossed into the street on my own resources. Based on this factor alone, I would never rent this flat or any other offered by this woman. Based on comparable HK flats, the room itself is adequate for the money, so my trip report would have been different had it not been for the highly negative interface that resulted from Brendan’s very out-of-place threat to deny me access to the room for the most minor of issues.
I tell all my guests, multiple times in fact to call me from the courtesy phones at the airport to schedule a time to meet at the flat in case of any delays in flights, customs clearance and luggage retrieval. For whatever reason Mark did not.
I was already at the flat working when Mark arrived. He was standing across the street with a friend and a small luggage; but I did not know who he was; I went right over to ask if he was Mark. He was extremely upset and angry. He let me know how mad he was and that it was ridiculous that I expected him to contact me beforehand. After trying to settle him down and explain clearly, he was so angry and yelling, so I told him that he could find another flat and that I would be okay with that. In fact, he was extremely difficult to get him to settle down. His friend tried to explain to him; but he would have nothing to do with it. We really do want our guests to be happy and enjoy their holiday. He insisted that he had already paid for the flat and he wanted to stay there. So I had to let him stay; I didn’t have a choice. I tried to be as fair as possible and explain the best I could. I was never unkind to him; he was so nasty and rude to me.

I was born in California and raised in Hong Kong. Went to college in the states and returned to Hong Kong a few years ago. I absolutely love travelling around the region but Hong Kong has always welcomed me home and I look forward to showing off my home town and sharing all the little insights and local specialities with all my guests!
