ITAEWON : The Global Community in Seoul: Global Fashions and Foods

Itaewon is a unique place in Seoul where one can meet people of diverse nationalities and cultures. There is a popular joke saying that international residents may not know Seoul, but they know Itaewon.

Seoul even designated Itaewon as its first ‘Special Tourism District,’ to highlight it as a destination for internationals to enjoy a diversity of culture, shopping, and entertainment experiences.

Itaewon is in the middle of Yongsan-gu, which borders the northern part of the Han River. It is also close to Seoul Station, Myeong-dong, and Namsan Mountain. The formation of this exotic and global tourism site is closely associated with modern Korean history.

Itaewon typically refers to the street full of stores, restaurants, and stalls over 1.4 kilometers between Itaewon 1-dong and Hannam 2-dong in the east.

Fashion shops specialize in various imported clothes, leather goods, fur goods, handbags, shoes, and antique furniture. Big and tall sizes unavailable in other areas are well-stocked, and experienced tailors offer customized clothes.

Another one of Itaewon’s many draws is its diverse food culture, which features cuisine from around world. Restaurants right behind Hamilton Hotel form a type of exhibition hall for international foods from Korea, New York, London, India, Thailand, China, Greece, Pakistan, Italy, France, Mexico, Australia, and more.

Unique flavors, exotic interiors, and diverse nationalities help to make Itaewon befittingly ‘the global village in Seoul.’

HOUSE RULES:Please read the guide book as soon as you get into my place, especially learn how to use heater system and dispose the garbage.
For example, please set the dial of controlling the temperature to ‘Going out’ when you go out and during daytime. Use the certificated garbage bag for disposing food or items.

  • The flat was clean and tidy that we felt comfortable during our 7 nights there. The wifi connection was stable and the air-cons were funtioning well. Though the house was not close to Itawon station, you could find convenience stores and bakery shops nearby. There was no lift within the house but I don't think it was a big problem. On top of it, being able to respond to our questions quickly & provide us with all sorts of information about and around the house, beautiful Judy was a great host. Thanks for letting us check in in the early morning. We hope to see you again!

  • Judy and Peter were absolutely wonderful hosts. Judy was in constant contact, very helpful, and responded on a moments notice. Even when I needed help changing my flight, she was able to give me the resources to do so. The flats (301 and 101) were very clean, had all the amenities promised, and were a very comfortable and affordable stay for my friends and I. I recommend their properties to anyone staying in Itaewon.

  • The house was just perfect for the four of us! It was clean, comfortable, and in a great location. The bedrooms were spacious. There were tons of small shops and restaurants nearby, and inexpensive cabs were always easy to find. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • We had a great time in this flat! It was clean and comfortable with all the necessary amenities. There was even a free tablet to use and some food in the cupboards! The location was great - taxis to Seoul station and many landmarks were cheap. Itaewon station was only 20 minutes walk away. Peter and Judy were wonderful hosts. They were easy to contact and let us check in early and check out late. I would recommend this flat to anyone who wants to visit Seoul.

  • Clean apartment and great host from Judy who is very accommodating. The only down side is the distance from itaewon station to the apartment. The walk is about 20mins and there are uphills and downhills along the way. Overall, it was a great place.

There are mild uphill and downhill but you come to learn that is everywhere in Korea.

  • We used to stay in hotels during vacations and it was our first time to rent an apartment and the experience was just amazing. My family felt so at home with the place and the host was just like a relative assisting us to make sure that we had a pleasant stay. Judy even went an extra mile to help us upon arrival and departure so that everything went smoothly. It was a perfect stay in Seoul! The place is highly recommended for a family of 5-6. To Judy, thank you so much!

  • My family of 8 stayed at Peter & Judy's apartment last week. My kids love the apartment. It is very cosy. It is about 20 mins walk to Itaewon. We took cabs to Itaewon - cost us 3000 krw. It is very easy to get a cab there. We had no problem looking for halal food as there are so many halal restaurants. The apartment is equipped with microwave and stove so we ate in at times. Judy & Peter are always very quick to answer to my endless questions. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there.
