ITAEWON : The Global Community in Seoul: Global Fashions and Foods

Itaewon is a unique place in Seoul where one can meet people of diverse nationalities and cultures. There is a popular joke saying that international residents may not know Seoul, but they know Itaewon.

Seoul even designated Itaewon as its first ‘Special Tourism District,’ to highlight it as a destination for internationals to enjoy a diversity of culture, shopping, and entertainment experiences.

Itaewon is in the middle of Yongsan-gu, which borders the northern part of the Han River. It is also close to Seoul Station, Myeong-dong, and Namsan Mountain. The formation of this exotic and global tourism site is closely associated with modern Korean history.

Itaewon typically refers to the street full of stores, restaurants, and stalls over 1.4 kilometers between Itaewon 1-dong and Hannam 2-dong in the east.

Fashion shops specialize in various imported clothes, leather goods, fur goods, handbags, shoes, and antique furniture. Big and tall sizes unavailable in other areas are well-stocked, and experienced tailors offer customized clothes.

Another one of Itaewon’s many draws is its diverse food culture, which features cuisine from around world. Restaurants right behind Hamilton Hotel form a type of exhibition hall for international foods from Korea, New York, London, India, Thailand, China, Greece, Pakistan, Italy, France, Mexico, Australia, and more.

Unique flavors, exotic interiors, and diverse nationalities help to make Itaewon befittingly ‘the global village in Seoul.’

HOUSE RULES:Please read the guide book as soon as you get into my place, especially learn how to use heater system and dispose the garbage.
For example, please set the dial of controlling the temperature to ‘Going out’ when you go out and during daytime. Use the certificated garbage bag for disposing food or items.

  • This our first visit of a place of Peter and Judy's. Owners are very attentive to requests of guests. Care of their comfort. We still had very good impressions of communication with owners.

  • This was my second time staying at Peter and Judy's place. Great experience once again. Convenient location and very clean apartment!

  • The apartment is clean, comfortable, with all the necessary facilities (free wi-fi), excellent for 1-2 people. The surrounding area is calm. At night, not noisy. At 5 minutes walk from the house there is a Airport Bus (# 6030) stop. Metro - in 15 minutes walk or 4 minutes by bus. Near the house there are various shops. Judy is very friendly and willing to help at any time. I would stay at her house again.

  • We had a very pleasant experience staying in Flat #101. Peter and Judy are great hosts and are very easy to communicate with. I emailed them a few times with questions about the area and I always received a very informative response within minutes. The apartment was perfect for our needs - spacious enough to spread our stuff out, comfortable beds, kitchen with the basic utensils and equipment and a washing machine. Itaewon station is about a 25 minute walk or a 3,000 won cab ride. There are buses that are easily accessible and plenty of food/convenience shops in the area. Judy was very accommodating to our requests to check out a bit later than the standard check out time. I would definitely recommend Peter and Judy as hosts and can testify to the cleanliness and comfort of unit #101!

  • Judy is a realy nice person who know how to take care of you if you need some help .
The 102 flat is nice one (i doubt that it's a 50m² but still big enough for one perspn). It's fully furnished (i mean with the kitchen instrument and bathroom ones) .
The only bad things about this appartement (for me) is : there is no desk in the room, jujst a table in the kitchen , and because i'm here to study for 5 month it's kind of an issue.

Judy gave me some adresses to buy one so everything fine now =)

Hope you'll enjoy this place and this area as much as i am =)

  • I'm reluctant to leave a glowing review, only due to the fact I don't want to have to queue behind other travellers who might also chance upon this hidden gem. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. It is clean, central and although it is somewhat small, it is completely adequate. To top it off, there was an iPad, a washing machine, bathroom goodies and cooking essentials also at my disposal! A previous review spoke briefly about some annoying external noise, but I experienced very little, if any. I really like my privacy and if I need help or further information, I certainly know how to ask. I was initially concerned I might constantly be visited by the hosts, but nope, not one knock! (I've stayed at other venues and I saw them ALL the time arggh!) Some people like the company or the local insights though, so up to you I guess on that front. Anyway, I can only rave about this place. It suited my needs to a tee. The directions Judy sent me were sufficient enough for my cab driver. He dropped us right outside the Taco joint situated just in front of the apartment, and a cabby that good is gold in any major city! Perhaps one thing worth pointing out, if you're used to 'big' towels, you should bring your own as they only provide hand towel sizes, however,I made do, and I have hair as long as the height of my waist! Its pretty standard for Korea. Again, thanks Peter and Judy! I'll definitely be back again! Oh and I should mention, I stayed in #202, not #102.

  • very sorry for the late reply since I was so busy after the visit to koreakorea. It was a very pleasant stay in this flat ! it was clean , spacious (for one or two people ) and mosf importantly -quiet! I didnt hear any noise at all ! Also, the flat was so cosy. with the perfect location , I could easily access to other part of seoul ! altough it is a bit of walk to the subway, bus stop is just 4mins walk and it takes u to the subway for just less than 5 mins ! Moreover , Judy is a very friendly host because she replied my question straight away that after I emailed her ! I would highly recommend this place for evryone and I would definitely stay here again next time I visit korea !

  • This is our second time staying in Peter & Judy's apartment and it is still perfect as before. We arrived early in the morning and Judy specially came earlier to clean the apartment for our arrival. We were so thankful for that! Apartment is spotless and during the night the room is so well heated. The apartment is surrounded with a lot of amenities which made the place even more comfortable. I am glad I stayed in their apartment for both of my trips to Seoul!
