We are 4 friendly roommates and 3 dogs who enjoy having guests in our home. We rent one of our rooms when traveling and are happy to provide suggestions and lend our bikes to guests who want to see the best Austin has to offer.
This charming 3 bedroom/2 bath craftsman bungalow is located right off West 6th St in Central Austin. Home to 4 roommates (Nannette, Erin, Jonny & Katy) 3 dogs (Parker the Australian Sheppard, Farrah the Siberian Huskey, and Barkley a tiny old pup), a fish, and several bicycles.
Clarksville is a historical and quirky neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown. West 6th St is home to several cafe's, shops, restaurants, and bars. Also within walking distance is West Lynn St. which has a few cafe's, restaurants and corner stores typical to the quiet Clarksville neighborhood.
Bus routes #4 and #21/22 have stops right off W 5th and W 6th Streets, just a couple minutes walk from our house.
Guests will have access to the entire house with the exception of the other bedrooms. They will share the two bathrooms with us and are welcome to spend time in our cozy living room, well-lit dinging room, fully-equipped kitchen, craft/meditation nook, and any one of our porches or back deck.
Interaction with Guests
We rent out our rooms when one of us is out of town, so there will be at least 3 of us at the house during a guests stay. We are all open and friendly people who enjoy providing a cozy escape from downtown and will be happy to direct our guests to Austin's finest dining and entertainment.
We love living in Clarksville! It is as central to downtown as you can get while still getting the benefits of living in a small, quiet neighborhood. From Clarkville you can visit the West Lynn shops and restaurants, walk to Deep Eddy Pool or jump on the hike and bike trail to get to Town Lake and Zilker Park. Since we live right of 6th St. you can walk or take public transportation to get to the West 6th bars, dirty 6th, East 6th and Red River District, the Convention Center and more. The West 6th District is about a mile away, while the rest is about 2 miles distance from the house.
Bus #4 and #5 stops are conveniently located at a 5-10 minute walk from our house. The buses in Austin only run about every 30 minutes and until about 12 midnight, so most locals in our neighborhood of Central Austin utilize car2go, Uber and Lyft to get around downtown Austin quickly and easily.
No smoking or pets in the house.
Nannette and her roommates were fantastic. They went out of their way to help us and check in to make sure we had everything that we needed. They were great hosts.
To be perfectly honest, the house and the bathrooms were not the cleanest in the world and things didn't really live up to the pictures...but that's ok. The room was a few hundred dollars less per night than any hotel in the area, so it was still a great deal.
Sorry to hear the house and bathrooms were not very clean for your arrival. I was out of the house for a couple of weeks and unfortunately cannot trust my roommates to clean while I am out, though they are welcoming hosts. I suspect no one told you not to use their bathroom (the small one). I always tell guests not to use the small bathroom because you are right, they do not keep it clean.
Nannette was very friendly and made us feel welcome in her home. Great neighborhood, close to downtown and local restaurants.
Nannette and her (website hidden) were very welcoming, the room was everything we expected it to be (clean, comfortable, and private), and the kitchen and back patio were a definite plus. Also, for anyone interested in nightlife, an Uber cost us 4-6 dollars to get to downtown, and back. In other words, a very good location. 10/10 would definitely repeat.
Great hosts! Great location! Comfortable room! Had a great experience & a very fun time in Austin. Nannette and her roommates were super nice & Nannette gave great recommendations for activites and dining.
The house and hood are typical "old Austin" charm- a great old house with big windows and porches, great light. Everyone in the house was very friendly and welcoming. It was a very easy place to stay.
My friend & I stayed at Nannette's home for Friday and Saturday night. We never met Nannette, but we slept in her bedroom, which is not the room pictured. The room was spacious enough for two people with a comfy bed. It sadly, was freezing while we were in Austin (25-35 F), and thankfully the roommates turned on the heat. Nannette has three roommates that greeted us when we arrived around 9 PM on a Friday night (1 female in one of the rooms, and a male/female couple in another room). They gave us a tour of the house and answered our questions about Austin when we first arrived. We never saw them again over the course of the weekend, which was completely okay with us for our specific weekend plans. The location of the house was really convenient for us to catch an Uber ride to Rainy, South Congress and East and West 6th Street. I would absolutely stay here again.
Nan's house in Clarksville was absolutely perfect for our stay! She gets an Austin local's 5 star approval. Her roommates were super cool, the decor and overall energy was welcoming and the location can't be beat. Hoping to stay again on my next trip home.

I love to explore, so traveling comes naturally. I'll try anything once will always choose the traditional or local favorite option over the familiar our touristy. I am an open and friendly person who enjoys good conversation and learning anything new.
I love living in Austin for it's sunny weather, live music, bike friendliness, food trailers, art, hike and bike trail, Barton springs, tacos, and most importantly the open-minded and friendly locals.
I have been hosting for Airbnb for over 4 years and love helping travelers experience the best of this great city while staying in a place that feels as warm and cozy as their own home. My roommates Erin, Jonny and Katy also enjoy hosting and can help give you pointers if you need.
