This is the best of both worlds, close to the center of Austin, just off 45th street, but the street remains quiet and tranquil. 10 minute drive to the center of Austin (6th Street)! A beautiful tree lined street of fifties houses; you feel far away from the bustle of downtown. Some scenes from "Tree of Life" directed by Terrence Malik were shot here. Yup Brad Pitt stood on my driveway.
Bedroom is newly renovated with new windows, so it is very quiet inside. Queen sized bed, with an option for a full sized air mattress, let me know if you might need this! I leave space in the fridge for guests' supplies. You are welcome to use my kitchen to prepare snacks but no meal preparation.
The neighborhood is very friendly consisting of a wide variety of people from retired, to young families, and students, musicians, lawyers, and almost anything you can think of. It has a strong sense of community. You can reach downtown in a ten minute drive or you can take the number 3 bus (a five to ten minute walk to the stop). I'm on a quiet street close to Burnet Road. There are many restuarants, cafes, thrift shops etc, within walking distance. North Lamar with Central Market Cafe is also close. Uchi, one of Austin's best restaurants is nearby. In addition Fonda San Miguel, an excellent Mexican restaurant with beautiful gardens and interior, is within walking distance. The F1 shuttle stop is 15 minutes drive away. There is street parking and I have internet access.
The house has been recently renovated but I've kept the fifties bathrooms. I have two rooms that I rent out. This one has a shared bathroom. The rooms come with linens and there is a washer and dryer available. The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden which you are welcome to sit in and enjoy. I work part-time and spend the rest of my time working on my garden. My dog Mirk (a border collie, you want to play ball?) and I enjoy visitors. Unfortunately I cannot take other pets as Mirk believes that this is his territory, he has the opposite feelings for humans and welcomes them.

Margaret is a fine and charming host and this is a good place to stay if you're not wanting a place to hang out as this is simply a bedroom in her house with a shared bath. I checked in about 4PM, left within an hour and didn't return until midnight. I felt comfortable and secure in my nights rest. My Verizon wireless service (data) didn't work in the bedroom. Not Margaret's fault. WiFi wasn't offered.
There were pros and cons to my stay with Margaret:
Pros: Margaret is an accommodating and kind hostess.
The house is comfortable and quiet, and the neighborhood was safe to walk in.
Lovely garden, and fresh fruit and flowers in the room to greet me.
Cons: Verizon phone didn't work inside the house
No shampoo or soap or conditioner provided and didn't learn this until too late to be able to get some.
No closet in the room - Margaret loaned me some hangers that I put on doorknob and hooks behind bathroom door
Overall I was grateful to be able to stay there, as the location was terrific for me, and I was able to make calls from my car parked out front.
Margaret was a friendly, gracious hostess. The bed was very comfortable, there's a large window in the room, and she gave each of us a key to her house. I'd definitely stay with Margaret again.
