The Space

Hi Everybody!

Just a short tram ride south of Amsterdam Central Station takes you into one of the most cosmopolitan and vibrant districts of Amsterdam.

Welcome to 'De Pijp'!

Formerly a working class quarter built to ease the overpopulated Jordaan in the 19th century and to house labourers, de Pijp as we Amsterdammers know it today is without doubt a melting pot of cultures and nationalities. Thanks to previous settlers such as Heijermans, De Haan, Bordewijk, Mondriaan and scores of students in search of a cheap room to rent, de Pijp continues to breathe life as the lively bohemian district known as the Quartier Latin (Latin Quarter, Paris) or El Borne (Barcelona). The young, foolish, the old, students, artists, and families have all chosen to make de Pijp their home, just far enough removed from the hustle and bustle of central Amsterdam, this homely alternative is very appealing.

Like the neighboring district Jordaan, De Pijp is brimming with fantastic cafés, culinair restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Of course, a visit to Amsterdam wouldn’t be the same without a trip to the Albert Cuypmarket, flanked by over 100 shops. If you wander down Albert Cuypstraat and Ferdinand Bolstraat, the main streets in de Pijp, you'll find many exotic and authentic Syrian, Moroccan and Surinamese restaurants, to name but a few, and a typical Amsterdam pub is located on almost every corner. Also in abundance are the Islamic butchers, Surinamese, Spanish, Indian and Turkish delicatessens and grocery stores.

A trip to Amsterdam is not complete without a visit to this lively district where people from all walks of life come together to work, relaxe, eat and read or simply chill in the great Sarphatipark (located in the middle of De Pijp). Life is good in De Pijp.

Within walking distance from my apartment you will find popular sites such as the Heineken Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, The Albert Cuyp Market, Vondelpark, The Royal Concerthall, Paradiso, Leidseplein and the Rijksmuseum. Also I live close to MacBike (where you can rent bikes to discover Amsterdam).

The discrict De Pijp is easy to acces from Amsterdams two big main train stations: Central Station (about 5 stops by tram 16 or 24) and Amstel Station (about 6 stops by tram 12). This means about 10-15 min travel time to either station. From Amsterdam Schiphol Airport it will take you about 30-35 minutes to the apartment by public transport (± 5-10 Euro's) and about 10-15 minutes by taxi (± 30-35 Euro's).

The apartment is located on the first floor and is about 55m2. You don't need to share anything with anyone, the place will be yours completely. You don't need to bring anything either, because the apartment is fully equiped with all you could possibly need. Plus, it has a great open outside terrace with faces the sun! This means you can have breakfast in the early morning sun and say cheers over a nice home made meal at night! From early April the temperature is good enough to sit outside and enjoy it all summer long!

The place is ideal for 1 or 2 persons, or a couple. If you want to stay with more people, that is no problem. I have one bedroom with a large two persons bed in it. I also have a large 2 persons pull out sofa that sleeps very comfortable. On top of that I can provide a large air bed (2 persons). You would have 2 different sleeping area's.

The place has all you need to enjoy your stay in Amsterdam, including super fast and wireless internet (WIFI), a HD TV and DVD player with tons of DVD's, modern and fully equiped kitchen with a microwave and an large oven, washing + drying machine, dishwashing machine and a Senseo coffee machine, hairdryer and iron equipment. I also have several power adapters you can use.

The rent includes the following: use of bed linnen, towels, toilet paper, tea/coffee, soda for the wash and dishwashing machine and a bottle of nice wine in the fridge! I will leave you a manual with all the instructions of the apartment together with some handy and up to date tips about Amsterdam, not just from me, but also from previous guests.

Check in and check out times are super flexible so you can check in early and check out late if you wish, just ask!

I will check you in myself and will be at your full disposal during your stay. Should you need advice, help of any kind just feel free to ask me. So if you want to book concert tickets for a gig or upcoming event, want to be put on a guestlist or need top seats in a nice culinair restaurant or perhaps need tickets to a Champions League match of AJAX AMSTERDAM, don't hessitate to aks cause I will do my best to get you sorted!

If you have any questions about your possible stay, please feel free to ask them!

Best,

Philipe Wentrup

  • The apartment was in excellent condition and was described & looked exactly like the ad on airbnb, so no nasty surprises etc. Location was great with loads of really nice bars, restaurants & cafés but still only a ten minute tram ride to the city. My group of friends & I enjoyed our stay & would have no problem in recommending the Amsterdam experience to anyone.

  • This is a really nice flat close to shops, restaurants, supermarkets and cafes in lovely De Pijp. Tram stops right outside the door to take you to the centre in 10 minutes. The flat is really comfortable and nicely furnished and the bedroom is cosy. Some noice from the street at night but it didn't bother us. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas-stove, dishwasher, waterboiler and washing machine. Philipe has a lot of dvd-films if you get tired of hanging out in the lovely city. And I guess the terrace is nice to take your morning coffee when it's not winter.

Philipe was a nice and helpful host. We got quick answers to messages and he was right in time for check in and out. He even bought us a bottle of wine and some candy for our christmas stay.
I highly recommend this place and host if your'e going to visit Amsterdam.

  • We stayed in Philippe's apartment by chance after another airbnb user had cancelled my booking at very late (website hidden) worked out for us in the end with Philippe's apartment being a fantastic place to stay. Philippe himself was very accommodating and friendly. I would gladlystay there again next time!

  • great location, easy to reach by tram or even foot, restaurants and bars around, a superb food market is just at the corner. The flat is very nice, well maintained and Philipe is extremely flexible with the timing which is great to be able to enjoy Amsterdam as much as possible. Just to clarify it's more a very big 1 bedroom flat with a nice sofabed than a 2 bedroom flat. Enjoy!

  • I recommend Philipe's place for your trip to Amsterdam. Pijp is a great neighborhood to stay in as it gives you great proximity to the main sights but retains a good "local" vibe.

Philipe's place is very comfortable. Highlights are a great roof deck and very comfortable bed. We also used his pull-out couch (3 people total staying in the apartment) and it was comfortable too. Bathroom is on the small side but has everything you need.

Philipe is a great host - he provided very good recommendations for the neighborhood and was accommodating with our needs for a late check-in and check-out.
