Just a short tram ride south of Amsterdam Central Station takes you into one of the most cosmopolitan and vibrant districts of Amsterdam.
Welcome to 'De Pijp'!
Formerly a working class quarter built to ease the overpopulated Jordaan in the 19th century and to house labourers, de Pijp as we Amsterdammers know it today is without doubt a melting pot of cultures and nationalities. Thanks to previous settlers such as Heijermans, De Haan, Bordewijk, Mondriaan and scores of students in search of a cheap room to rent, de Pijp continues to breathe life as the lively bohemian district known as the Quartier Latin (Latin Quarter, Paris) or El Borne (Barcelona). The young, foolish, the old, students, artists, and families have all chosen to make de Pijp their home, just far enough removed from the hustle and bustle of central Amsterdam, this homely alternative is very appealing.
Like the neighboring district Jordaan, De Pijp is brimming with fantastic cafés, culinair restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Of course, a visit to Amsterdam wouldn’t be the same without a trip to the Albert Cuypmarket, flanked by over 100 shops. If you wander down Albert Cuypstraat and Ferdinand Bolstraat, the main streets in de Pijp, you'll find many exotic and authentic Syrian, Moroccan and Surinamese restaurants, to name but a few, and a typical Amsterdam pub is located on almost every corner. Also in abundance are the Islamic butchers, Surinamese, Spanish, Indian and Turkish delicatessens and grocery stores.
A trip to Amsterdam is not complete without a visit to this lively district where people from all walks of life come together to work, relaxe, eat and read or simply chill in the great Sarphatipark (located in the middle of De Pijp). Life is good in De Pijp.
Within walking distance from my apartment you will find popular sites such as the Heineken Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, The Albert Cuyp Market, Vondelpark, The Royal Concerthall, Paradiso, Leidseplein and the Rijksmuseum. Also I live close to MacBike (where you can rent bikes to discover Amsterdam).
The discrict De Pijp is easy to acces from Amsterdams two big main train stations: Central Station (about 5 stops by tram 16 or 24) and Amstel Station (about 6 stops by tram 12). This means about 10-15 min travel time to either station. From Amsterdam Schiphol Airport it will take you about 30-35 minutes to the apartment by public transport (± 5-10 Euro's) and about 10-15 minutes by taxi (± 30-35 Euro's).
The apartment is located on the first floor and is about 55m2. You don't need to share anything with anyone, the place will be yours completely. You don't need to bring anything either, because the apartment is fully equiped with all you could possibly need. Plus, it has a great open outside terrace with faces the sun! This means you can have breakfast in the early morning sun and say cheers over a nice home made meal at night! From early April the temperature is good enough to sit outside and enjoy it all summer long!
The place is ideal for 1 or 2 persons, or a couple. If you want to stay with more people, that is no problem. I have one bedroom with a large two persons bed in it. I also have a large 2 persons pull out sofa that sleeps very comfortable. On top of that I can provide a large air bed (2 persons). You would have 2 different sleeping area's.
The place has all you need to enjoy your stay in Amsterdam, including super fast and wireless internet (WIFI), a HD TV and DVD player with tons of DVD's, modern and fully equiped kitchen with a microwave and an large oven, washing + drying machine, dishwashing machine and a Senseo coffee machine, hairdryer and iron equipment. I also have several power adapters you can use.
The rent includes the following: use of bed linnen, towels, toilet paper, tea/coffee, soda for the wash and dishwashing machine and a bottle of nice wine in the fridge! I will leave you a manual with all the instructions of the apartment together with some handy and up to date tips about Amsterdam, not just from me, but also from previous guests.
Check in and check out times are super flexible so you can check in early and check out late if you wish, just ask!
I will check you in myself and will be at your full disposal during your stay. Should you need advice, help of any kind just feel free to ask me. So if you want to book concert tickets for a gig or upcoming event, want to be put on a guest list or need top seats in a nice culinair restaurant or perhaps need tickets to a Champions League match of AJAX AMSTERDAM, don't hesitate to ask cause I will do my best to get you sorted!
If you have any questions about your possible stay, please feel free to ask them!
Guests have access to the whole house, including linnen + towels + tea/coffee, etc and everything that you are used to getting in a hotel + even more when you ask for it. You would have your own key or multiple sets if you want, just ask.
Interaction with Guests
I will always check you in myself and will make sure you feel comfortable and relaxed about your stay and can answer all questions you have. Once you have booked I will also sent you a detailed manual of my apartment with lots and lots of local tips!
I expect my guests to handle and respect my apartment like you would expect me to do so at your own place. Please leave the apartment in the state that I have carefully provided it for you! I will communicate the main House Rules by email once you have booked. I will somethimes ask for a small deposit, this applies if you want to stay for more than 5 days. For the rest I can only strongly advice you to do enjoy my place!
Philpe was a really good host. He made us feel very welcome. The flat, although small, had the essential items. The best was the location. It was a interesting area with bars, restaurants and cafes nearby.
Philipe made us feel at home right from the beginning. He was very accommodating even when we booked the same day and arrived late. The apartment has a very unique vibe (like Amsterdam) and was very comfortable for our family of 5. We had a lot of fun and definitely recommend it.
We stayed at Philippe's place for 2 nights. The apartment is ideally located in a quite street but very close to many spots (Rijksmuseum, Vondelpark etc). Supermarket and tram stop just around the corner.
The apartment is comfortable, fully equipped and quite conform to the description. It has one bedroom; it was however suited for our family of 5. In short, we had a wonderful experience in Amsterdam :)
Philippe has been a very good host: he will prepare your welcoming in the most efficient way with a manual guide of his flat, tips around his place and good places where to hang out in the city. He was also very flexible about time of arrival/departure which was much appreciable!
The flat is warm and welcoming for 3/4 persons, and you will enjoy his terrasse you are lucky enought to have sun!
We have really enjoyed amsterdam and will be back for sure!
