Sunny loft space in a colorful, eclectic, artists' haven is a perfect spot for a writing holiday, hiking homebase, or spring training season. Enjoy the lovely weather in our back garden and cycle the miles of bike paths in the area.
Located 20 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor just off the 202, enjoy this eclectic patio home in Mesa, AZ. Twin bed in the loft is available for just $45 a night. I've got a futon mattress we can put down for a couple for just a bit more. Loft and bedroom have vaulted ceilings, all rooms have a ceiling fan. Jack-and-Jill bathroom with pedestal sinks and oval tub upstairs linking the loft and the Master.
Warm winter days spent outdoors in the breath-taking nature of Arizona, and cozy nights by the fireplace inside or firepit outside. We've got a community pool and jacuzzi, and are just around the corner from the bike paths that run along the canal. I am an amazing cook that entertains often, so maybe you'll meet some funny and fascinating folks that are well-versed in the art of conversation. Perhaps you'll want to tag along with whatever we've got rolling that night- anything from an acoustic open mic, craft cocktail bar, indie film bar, art openings at First Fridays downtown, burlesque history show, event at the botanical gardens, dinner & dialogue or a film discussion group... who knows? Also happy to let you know what's going on around town and you find your own way.
3 miles from downtown Mesa and all the great Mom-n-Pops there as well as the Mesa Arts Center. 15 minute drive from Tempe Market Place, a lovely outdoor community & shopping area that has free bands on the weekends, or the drag on Mill Ave where the ASU students like to hang out.
I've got wifi and netflix, but no TV. 2 darling kitties. Smoking is fine on the patio. Street parking.
Guests have access to the kitchen, living area, outdoor space, as well as the community pool and spa.
Interaction with Guests
We live here in the home, so we love having folks stay with us-- its like having old friends visit. When time and schedules allow, we love to sit down and chat at breakfast and enjoy a cup of tea in the afternoons outside. We're happy to point you in the direction of what you're interested in here in the area-- and being foodies, we've got some great recommendations up our sleeve.
They are building the lightrail that connects with Tempe and Downtown Phoenix to be a little over a mile from here, but as of Summer 2014, its still under construction.
Mesa is brilliant with bikepaths (you can rent one of ours for $10 a day) but not so great with public transportation. If you're not a driver, this is a great spot to relax, write your book, journal, paint- whatever your path to You is.
If you are a driver, the 202 is 5 minutes away, making access to Scottsdale, Sky Harbor, Downtown, and Chandler all within 15 - 20 minutes.
Other Things to Note
All money from bookings helps me get to China in the fall to teach with the World Academy for the Future of Women in XinZheng China. Thanks for helping me empower women's leadership to make the world a better place!
Smoking is allowed, but outside only please.
I'm flexible on check-in and check-out times.
There are easy-light "logs" in the coat closet for the fireplace. Just use one a day, please.
Please leave the door to the downstairs bathroom open, as the kitties' box is in there. Also, please don't let the kitties into the upstairs bedroom- my partner is allergic, so we keep them out of there so he can sleep in peace.
Jacqueline had excellent communication during the reservation process and the description of the property was accurate. The neighborhood was nice and the property was easy to find. Our daughter really enjoyed the upper loft bed. We enjoyed hanging out and talking with Jacqueline and Jason and playing with their cats during the morning before we left. We also enjoyed the Park of the Canals down the street.
We had a great experience staying with Jacqueline and Jason! They were very warm and welcoming, and easy to be around. The space is a tight squeeze for a couple, and you're sharing a bathroom with your host, but we never felt awkward or imposing. They were generous and helpful, and we'd definitely stay there again!
We loved having you! Next week, we'll be having a carpenter come out to build a loft that will raise the twin bed up and provide space under for the now-larger queen futon (instead of the full we had before) as well as reading/lounge space above since the loft will run the full 11 1/2' width of the room.
The room is over 11'x16', so we want to make sure we're using the space in the best way for folks to feel comfortable even for longer stays.
Can't wait to have you back so you can experience the difference!
The place was clean, and everything was in order. We couldn't get really hot water for a shower, though.
Oh no! The shower is a bit odd-- straight up is the hot, and moving it to either side cools it down. Took me a couple weeks to figure it out when I first bought the house. Wish I'd known you were having trouble!
I'll make sure to let folks know in the future. Its easy to forget things like that once you get used to them. ;)
Jacqueline is a great host. Flexible, communicative and friendly. She accommodated my daughter upstairs in loft with a separate mattress. She also recommended some great places for eating. The loft is a bit on the small side with only a curtain for privacy but perfect for a quick overnight stay.
This place is beautiful and artistic, it's perfect. Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 10 days, most part of the day out traveling, but we felt very comfortable while we were there. You can cook, watch some movie and feel as if you were in a relatives house. Jacqueline is a very nice and interesting person to talk with and she made us feel welcome. Her cats are adorable and very curious, they tended to visit us and explore all our stuff (especially in the middle of the night) It's important to mention that there are no doors at the room we stayed. We didn't care at all, but I think that this may be important for other people.
My stay with Jacqueline and Jason FreeBear was perfect for a solo trip to Phoenix. They were both hospitable and very informative about places to check out!! A great space for creative inspiration!
World traveler that calls Memphis, TN my hometown and has settled far earlier than I thought I would in Phoenix, AZ. Ecclectic in my tastes and friends, I ended up staying on after a student exchange in The Netherlands for 8 1/2 more years. Returned to the states in 2005 where I leveraged my 13 years in the classroom to start my own business. Love a game of pool as much as the opera, a good burger as much as a multi-plated meal, and am a master of the art of conversation.
