About This Listing
Bright townhouse with a beautiful view of the park. The private room comfortably fits 1-2 guests and is located on a quiet street near the bus stop. Only a 5min bus ride (15min walk) to the subway. Great brunch spots within walking distance.
We offer short-term parking via permit in the underground parking on the south end of foundry ave. you will park your car, bring your license plate number to the house and the online instructions are in the room, but please let us know if you will be needing it so that we can leave the key for you to reenter the garage. Our home is brightly lit and there are two adorable cats that will most likely welcome you when you come home.
The washer and dryer are available for you, with detergent included. There are instructions for getting to the airport, transit, etc in the welcome booklet in the bedroom. Please help yourselves to the tea, spices, dishes while you are here and make yourselves at home. We accept a maximum of 2 guests since the room only has a double bed.
Guests have access to the first two floors of the stacked townhouse. There are two bathrooms (shared with us), the kitchen and all the dishes/spices/tea, and the washer/dryer/laundry detergent. The guest room is private and we will not need to enter at any point unless there is an emergency. There are a few miscellaneous toiletries in the bedroom that you are welcome to use as well as a hair dryer in the bathroom under the sink.
Interaction with Guests
We are often not home when our guests arrive, but have a lockbox attached to our front door. Upon confirmation of your booking we will give you the code to enter. Please note that you will need to enter the code and slide the metal clip down to get the key. To lock the key back in you must reenter the code and slide the metal clip down to close the lock securely. We had a guest who just left the key in the open lockbox when they left and that is clearly not very secure. We are often out and about so let us know if you have any questions. We know that you are on vacation so we will respect your privacy and let you do your own thing.
There is an amazing weekend brunch spot called the whippoorwill. Located at Lansdowne and Bloor and open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays (10am). The starving artist on Lansdowne just north of bloor also has great potato waffles!
A nearby pub called Boo Radleys has a nice patio in the summer and pretty good pub food.
The #47 bus on Lansdowne will take you either to the subway (5min ride) or down to the trendy queen street west area downtown.
From the airport the airport rocket bus will take you to the subway. Head eastbound on the subway until Lansdowne station. Take the #47 northbound and get off at Brandon stop (in between Dupont and davenport) cross the street onto powerhouse road and follow until you hit foundry ave.
If you need access to parking there are instructions in the room how to go about getting a permit. These permits last for only 24hrs and you may only get a total of 8. Longer term rentals will not be able to have parking.
These are pretty much just common sense, but we've been told to write everything down:
I work on the third floor. If I am working with a client please do not interrupt me.
You must take your luggage at checkout. We have people coming and going all the time and do not have time to arrange for someone to be home to let you back in. We are strict on this one.
Please keep the cats inside at all times, this includes ensuring that the external doors and windows are closed.
Please lock the front door when you come home.
Please do not feed the cats any human food or pick them up.
Please keep the door to the guest room closed to ensure it has less exposure to cat hair for guest who may be occupying that space after you.
No access to the third floor.
Leave shoes at the front door please.
When using the laundry machine please dry the washer after you remove your load of washing.
Please empty the internal lint trap after every time the machine is run through.
Please do not use steel utensils with the pots and pans.
Please do not sit on the kitchen counter
We had a very nice stay at Ceinwen's place.
She was extremely helpful, giving us all the information we needed and good tips about transport etc.
The flat is located in a residential area, so far from the hustle and bustle of the City center but well connected and perfect to come back to after a busy day!
We would recommend it.
It's a cozy house, and I felt like being at home as soon as I stepped into the house.
Ceinwen and Colin gave great help for our needs, it did help a lot as we were in Toronto. Their response is always quick and considerate.
My friend and I really enjoyed staying there.
Thanks so much for the review. Not entirely sure of the translation, but did my best! We are happy you had a nice stay. I just wanted to clarify that the microwave does work, just not the exhaust fan on it... so guests are welcome to use that. Our dishwasher is broken due to an airbnb mishap, but we are expecting to get a new one. Also, the wifi was only our neighbours (she's a good friend and gave us permission to use it) until Rogers can reset ours (we bought a new modem), so that should be any day now. Sorry if the cat hair and toys bothered you. The place is vacuumed and swept all the time, but there isn't too much that can be done when you have 2 pets and we like to have some toys for them to play with... but we do try to keep the airbnb room closed and fully advertise that there are pets on the premises.
I wasn't too sure about the transit translation, but we do mention that it is a 5min bus ride to the subway, or 15min walk... From there you can take the subway where you need, but it does take some time to get to the downtown core. Each metrostation only takes 1-2min to get to once on the subway. Depending where downtown you are going it can take 15-30+min on the subway.
Ceinwen and Colin were considerate and friendly hosts who always had good tips for us.
The only negative aspect of our stay was that the internet wasn't working the entire time - but Colin and Ceinwen always helped us out when we needed something.
The apartment could easily be accessed with public transportation, so going downtown took not more than 30 minutes.
We would definitely recommend this accomodation.
Ceinwen is a lovely host. She is very friendly and welcoming. The place didnt quite look like the photos they advertised with. Maybe that was because Ceinwen was away, and her husband was responsible for the cleanliness. In our room, the rubbish bin was full and hadnt been changed since the previous guest. The kitchen was cluttered with garbage, such as bags of rubbish, 5 or so pizza boxes, and coke cans. It wasnt clean. The bathroom also wasnt the cleanest. The wifi also wasnt working and it hadnt been for 3 weeks. Which was a major inconvenience for travelers who need to research.
Ceinwen and Colin are fantastic hosts, not only do they know the city really well and are happy to give some great advice for places to see and things to do, they are also very welcoming of their home. The space is great, comfortable, really well looked after, easy to find and not too far from downtown Toronto.
About the Host, Ceinwen
I am a freelance dance artist as well as a registered massage therapist. I sometimes work from home so am looking for quiet guests. I'm originally from Saskatchewan, but have lived in Toronto since 2003. I love cats and dogs, seeing new places, and meeting friendly people. My husband and I have been married for two years. Colin loves playing videogames and trains/teaches in martial arts in his spare time. We are interested in renting our spare room to relaxed singles or couples who just need an inexpensive place to stay while they explore the city and aren't super demanding/expecting a hotel like experience. We keep the spare room clean and tidy, but for the most part are more like relaxed roommates.
Nice patio and delicious pulled pork sandwich.
This is the ugliest mall ever, but the closest grocery store we have. There is a drugstore and liquor store (just outside) in the mall as well.
Really great food and patio. I love their caesars
There's a little espresso shop just east of here. They have delicious cookies too.
another little cafe
Beautiful park that you can relax in. They have a running track and dog park here among other things.
They have great potato waffles and are open for brunch throughout the week. Also a very nice patio to enjoy in the summer.
This is the closest subway stop. It takes about 12-15min to walk to from our place. Make sure you get a transfer if you are taking the bus to the subway or you will have to pay twice.
Very trendy weekend brunch spot. I like their biscuits and homemade jam.
I heard this place is great for dinner and drinks. I have yet to try it.
This bright pink restaurant has great take home samosas and other bite sized treats. Very inexpensive.
Cute little bar with patio in the back. They have delicious food... I like their mussels and their salmon salad.
It's a bit of a walk, but they have fantastic fried chicken and all sorts of independantly brewed beer.
Ribs! Cute little diner with some surprisingly fancy food. There is a very tiny patio, but inside is cute also.
A cool place to check out. Not sure what day they have a farmers market here.
