THE LOCAL AREA

THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE LONDON AT ITS BEST!!!

OXFORD STREET, the premier shopping street in Europe is under a mile(1km) walk from the apartment. It is one and a half miles(2km) from end to end and is a shoppers paradise. Most shops open 10am until 6 or 7pm. Many also open on Sunday from 12 to 6pm with late nights on Thursday. Oxford Street is best known for Selfridges and the other big department stores which are all found in the section from Marble Arch to Oxford Circus, along with most of the big-name multinationals such as Nike, Primark, Topshop, Apple, etc. It's more of the same towards Tottenham Court Road, but generally on a smaller scale. Oxford Street is said to be the busiest shopping street in Europe.

The section of Edgware Road near to Marble Arch is famous for its distinctive Middle-Eastern character. Lebanese restaurants, shisha cafes and clubs line both sides of the road, with some staying open late into the night. Marble Arch station is a few minutes walk from the southern end of Edgware Road.

Just a short step away from the tourist hordes, the apartment still has the feel of a real neighbourhood, the wealthy residents are becoming ever more attractive as Harley Street, the traditional home of England's best doctors, has recently become the heart of the UK's flourishing plastic surgery industry.

The beautiful architecture (the Wallace Collection is a must) and the open spaces of Regent's Park and Hyde Park make this a fine area to have a wander, when the sun's out there are fewer places in London as scenic and special as Hyde Park.

While Marylebone High Street is absolutely charming, lined with traditional pubs, beautiful boutiques and shops (including the flagship Daunt Books) and excellent local restaurants as well as an impressive mix of hotels - and a farmer's market every Saturday.

A short walk from Marylebone is the home of the most famous fictional detective in the world 'Sherlock Holmes' bachelor flat at 221B Baker Street and the popular waxworks at Madame Tussauds.

  • This was a lovely apartment with lots of privacy. It was very close to transport and we were about to get to most things in about 20 minutes including the Tower of London, British museum and oxford street! The downside was that the wifi internet was really bad. Even sitting right next to the router, the connection was poor and dropped out a lot. The weather apparently affects it. Other than that, great apartment.

  • The apartment is very well located and cute. Carrie responds quickly to messages and the process to pick up and return the keys is very practical. I recommend the place and I would love to stay there again. Great apartement, great host! We had a very nice stay, thanks a lot!!!

  • Flat was clean and looks exactly like on photos. 30 minutes walk to buckingham, 15 to oxford street.

  • The apartment is perfect! It's cosy and homely. The only bad experience we had was with the washer, we could not open the door of the washer and hence could not do our laundry. Otherwise, everything else was good, and I would definitely recommend it.

  • i booked this apt for my sister who came with her husband and 2 kids and it was perfect in terms of space and location (2 mins from marylebone station; 6 mins from baker street; 5 mins from edgware road). also the pictures reflect the apartment exactly, so no surprises there.

the only thing is that it on the fifth floor and there are no lifts so if someone is old or has trouble with stairs, they should keep this in mind.

  • I really enjoyed my stay - it was perfect for me. Apartment exactly as described, and Carrie was incredibly friendly and responsive. I especially liked the lock box system to collect the keys so there's total freedom to arrive late at night or early in the morning. It's a great location and easy to get anywhere in London. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Good value for money!

  • The appartment was just perfectly located for our needs and turned out to be great spot to start diverse explorations throughout the city. It is just around the corner from two tube stations as well as in short walking distance to the airport bus stop (BakerStreet) and the Oxford tube (Marble Arch). A grocery store is within 2 min walk, so we could buy our food and drinks for inhouse meals there.
The appartment is on 5th floor, so you shouldn´t mind climbing a few steps. Anyway, the rooms were clean and had exactly what you would expect from the pictures. We were 4 people, but still had enough space for sleeping, eating and hanging around.
The organization (keys, information, ...) was exellently done by Carrie and we would definitely recommmend to stay with her! Thanks Carrie for all your work!!

  • We had a perfect experience there. Nice apartment right in the heart of the city. Tidy, clean and beautifully decorated. Feels like proper home. Not expensive at all for London standards.
I needed to get in touch with our host 2 or 3 times and she was really helpful. I recommend this apartment and I would definitely stay at this place again.

    March 2013
  • I arrived early and the very friendly cleaning gal let me in and was very helpful, and I was able to leave my luggage and go out on the town while she finished up. The flat is near Marylebone train station, and if you have any fondness for English trains stations, as I do you, will be very happy.
It is a comfortable and nicely appointed flat and has the feel of someone caring about it, but there were a few serious kinks still being worked out -- heat and shower head -- and the communication could have been better. Carrie was responsive but there seemed to be a gap between her and the person who could fix the problems.
