Interaction with Guests
We make sure we are at our place when you arrive so you can meet Ellie and Rhino too! I primarily work from home and I am able to answer questions about the city you may have. If you want complete privacy, breakfast will be available at your convenience. Or if you want to have a cup of coffee together and learn why we moved here, we're up for that too!
We are at the south end of Washington Heights which doesn't have a lot of shops you can walk to. There is history in the buildings which make each building very unique. When midtown was all factories, the rich lived up in Washington Heights during the 20s-30s so there's a lot of marble and detail in each building. There are many families and a lot of people who spend more time outside than inside. Everyone knows each other in our neighborhood.
Food options nearby: Espresso Bar, Cafes, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Wendys, Pizza, Italian, Chinese, Korean, Mexican, Dominican, Empanadas, BBQ, Deli, Pastries, Bagels, Starbucks (8 short blocks).
We are 3 blocks from the 1 Train that takes you to Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Penn Station all the way to the Statue of Liberty Ferry. We are 8 blocks from the A Train which runs express. We're also 2 blocks from Riverside to take a nice waterside stroll along the Hudson River.

Brett and Marlyse were very welcoming and accommodating. My original flight was cancelled and I ended up arriving to their home at 1 am, but they greeted me and showed me all the necessary details despite the late hour. Brett was very helpful and quick at answering my questions about transportation to and from the airport by email and text. They were also very helpful with the train/subway information, as well. The space was accurately described as depicted in the pictures. The bedroom was clean, the bed was comfortable and the plug ins were thoughtfully situated for easy use. I walked 8 blocks to and from my workshop each morning and evening and felt perfectly safe. Rhino and Ellie are sweet, lovable dogs. I was especially touched by Brett providing a fan for me, finding my coffee mug sitting by the hot coffee each morning and when Brett moved their drying laundry out of the bath area so I could shower. They are a very pleasant, sweet and interesting couple and I would highly recommend staying with them if you need a place to stay in New York. This was my first time in New York, they encouraged me to explore and I felt like a New Yorker staying with them!
Brett and Marlyse were super chill and had no problems with us arriving late in the evenings. The room is just like it is in the picture, bed was nice and comfy. The apartment is about a 35min subway ride to Times Square but the neighborhood is safe, so no worries about coming and going late at night. Their dogs are also really sweet. I would definitely reccomend their place!:)
I went with 2 other friends of mine, this was the first time we had been in NYC. Brett helped us by giving us directions on how to get to his place. He met us at his place and gave us a quick tour, he was so welcoming. Brett and his wife offered to give us advice and suggestions for our trips since we had no plan. Brett and his wife were awesome hosts, if we had questions they were quick to respond and they had breakfast for us every morning. We really appreciated all the advice they gave us. I could not have had a better experience. I highly recommend them. The subway is also really close to where they live so you can pretty much go anywhere worthwhile from their place. Also their dogs were so friendly and lovable. I highly recommend it, it is a great place to stay. As far as neighborhood goes, we felt safe even walking late at night. I highly suggest this place.
About the Host, Brett
My wife and I decided to move to the busiest city in the US and we love every minute of it.
Since moving to NYC, we've been hosts and tour guides for over 35 of our friends. We decided that we wanted to open our doors to others that would like to stay here too! Need suggestions for your NYC exploring? We can help.
If I'm not working on my computer, you'll find me running our boxer/mastiff and lab/spaniel along the Hudson River, biking the Manhattan streets with my GoPro camera recording or exploring different areas of NYC with my wife.
