About this listing
Beautiful colonial style home overlooking desert and Bay of La Paz 20 minutes from downtown La Paz, Baja California Sur. Home offers complete privacy but has neighbors nearby. Ramada and pool in back and courtyard patio in front. Beautifully landscaped, quiet setting, yet has amenities close by in town of El Centenario, as well as La Paz city. One mile from the water, with numerous beaches to chose from in the Bay of La Paz and north on the Sea of Cortez, as well snorkeling and diving in the Espiritu Santo islands nature area offshore. World-class white sand beaches are 30 minutes away.
House is great for families, and small pets are allowed for a small fee. Very accessible with main living on one level.
House has air conditioning, has comfortably furnished great room, well stocked kitchen with refrigerator, stove and oven, microwave, and excellent equipment for gourmet meals. There is a new flatscreen tv with ipod dock for music and movies, dvd player, and a small movie and music library. Internet time can be purchased to use with Telcel device provided.
Each bedroom has a bathroom with shower, and master has a bathtub. There is a washer and dryer as well.
Outside on the ramada are a charcoal barbecue and comfortable deck furniture to relax with the view and swim in the pool.
There is a new walled and gated entertainment space near the pool. It is artistically decorated, with a flagstone floor. We are in the process of creating an outdoor kitchen there, but the planned barbecue and pizza oven / fireplace are not yet in place. The space is fully enjoyable now however for additional lounging by the pool.
This house is great for nature and bird watching from the ramada or the poolside entertainment space. Sunrise over La Paz and its mountains is spectacular, and at night, star viewing is fabulous with the unobstructed views and clear dark sky. As a matter of fact, the owners use this area for astronomy - bring your own telescope!
No smoking is allowed inside the house. Small pets may be allowed if authorized for $25 per week. The house is family friendly as long as children are supervised around the pool and desert landscape. The house is on one level except for two steps going in the front door. Small gatherings are fine. No large gatherings are allowed.
This is a comfortable well provisioned house. The view is among the best around La Paz. It isn't the prettiest drive from Centenario into town, but it is real Mexico, and its only 15 minutes. The patio and pool are wonderful!
We just got back home from our visit in La Paz and our 2 month stay at the Runyan house. We wish we still there. The house is comfortable with all the modern conveniences including a pool. The neighborhood is secluded and filled with friendly expats. We were greeted by the property manager Victor when we arrived. He was always just a phone call away and very helpful. If we go to La Paz again this is where we will stay.
The house was perfect for our needs. Wanted something a little away from town (10 minutes), but with easy access.
Absolutely beautiful house, outstanding desert views, amazing hostess. Spent Christmas week there, and fell in love with the house and area. So many beautiful beaches within quick driving distance (go to Ballandra!). Great kitchen for cooking (we made a lot of meals there), comfortable beds, big walk-in showers, patio doors opening to the desert and the pool. Wonderful home away from home. So comfy.
The new wifi was strong and easy to access. Neighbors were friendly, and Victor (the manager) was super helpful. Views through the day are beautiful, but the night sky is amazing, and you can see the lights of La Paz along with the bay.
Definitely need a car to get around. We flew into San Jose del Cabo, then a very good bus to La Paz and met friends who had driven down. Lots of big grocery stores and great markets in La Paz, along with a host of restaurants, small eateries, local taco places (carne asada and papas!).
Janice, thank you for being an amazing hostess, and opening your home to us. We'll definitely be back.
The house was a fantastic getaway. Beautifully and comfortably appointed and super private. The pool was a much needed relief from the heat and perfect for night swimming and star watching. The house had everything you could want, peace, quiet and A/C. We loved our stay and will be back soon :)
We are a family of four (with a 2 year old and 5 year old) and we stayed for two weeks at the Runyan's beautiful house in El Centenario. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the La Paz area (15 minute drive from house) and the house was very comfortable with a nice solar heated pool, patios and bbq to use. Kitchen was great for us as we cooked two out of three meals for the kids. Bev and Rick (the property managers) were also very friendly and helpful getting us set up. We were a 45 minute drive from El Telcote beach and Balandra beach (best beaches by far) so that was great for us. Only difficulty was getting internet set up (but that may have been me), I ended up using a nice cafe for internet access (free wifi) which was a 10 minute drive from house. Overall a great experience and we would definitely stay again.
This is a beautiful house with a gorgeous view out to the Sea of Cortez from the back porch area. One morning we got up early enough to watch the sun rise and listen to the mix of roosters crowing and dogs barking. It's a very peaceful setting. Everything in the house seemed new and high quality - extremely comfortable. We had everything we needed there and more. We went into La Paz each day and it was nice to return to this lovely house and serene area at the end of each day. Would highly recommend it.
Stay here for a unique and exciting experience. This is an American quality home with every amenity you could ask for tucked in a real Baja neighborhood surrounded by other US/CAN imports and Locals too. I loved this house, right on the edge of the development, you really feel like you are close to nature and not in a sanctuary of Americanism.
La Paz is a beautiful city with a lot to see but we enjoyed eating hot dogs and burritos to-die-for at a little stand in front of a local families house just as much. Their teenage daughter serenaded us as we ate, and we sang a little back, we all laughed together and at the end of the night one of our new friends gave a lift to a departing member of our party. So friendly and kind!
More on the house! The pool was so refreshing and sitting on the patio watching the sun rise was a personal favorite. The house was beautiful, comfortable and immaculately maintained. Janice was super helpful both in the booking stage and as a host while we were there. She was staying in a neighbors home during our visit and made herself very available to answer questions about the home and the area. She is a great host.
Janice treated us to a fridge full of groceries and even some wine which was much needed for our group of hungry and thirsty bikers.
La Paz has an Airport and is also close to Los Cabos so this would be a great place to spend a few weeks of vacation or a whole season if you can!
The house is on the edge of La Paz not terribly convenient if you want to be in town a lot. But if beaches are your thing you are close to several.
Wonderful place to stay.
About the Host, Janice
I am interested in travel to all parts of the world and I have a great affection for Mexico. My husband and I purchased a home in La Paz, Mexico shortly after our most exotic trip to Turkey about six years ago. I am interested in the arts and crafts of the area as well as the stunning geography, plants and animals.
I am a landscape designer at home, and love the challenge of a new culture and landscape to experience. I also love cooking and trying the local cuisine, but I am also a confirmed homebody. Therefore a home of our own in Mexico makes perfect sense- a comfortable, familiar base to set out from to explore anew. We hope our visiitors will enjoy it too.
