The Space

We've got a great little guest room with queen bed off our mudroom away from the rest of the house. It looks out on our backyard vegetable and flower gardens and up into the woods. The only sounds you'll hear at night are tree frogs and crickets.

You'd have sole use of our downstairs full bathroom and living room, plus cable TV, wi-fi and unlimited long distance calling. We've got a screened-in porch, pond for swimming, plus 400+ acres of surrounding woods and trails. We're at the end of a short dirt road, 2/3 mile from the center of the picturesque village of Newbury. (with upscale Village Store that even has a little restaurant out back) We have maps for local sights and hikes.

We'll provide a light breakfast of coffee/tea, juice, cereal, yogurt, toast, home-made raspberry jam and fruit. Healthy dinner available for one night for extra fee.

It is just my husband and me and our little Bichon and 2 old cats that are not allowed in guest room. Raney, the dog, gets excited when people arrive, but she calms down after that.

Price includes 9% Vermont Rooms and Meals Tax.

600 ct. Egyptian Cotton Sheets! New bedpost reading lamps!

Camp Farwell special. No extra cost for 3rd person. The third person (Dad?) can sleep on the nice wide couch in the private living area. Sheets and blankets provided.

Guest Access

Guests have the downstairs living room all to themselves. And a private full bath. Free range of the whole downstairs and yard and pond.

Interaction with Guests

We retreat to the upstairs early - either to bed or to read or to watch TV up there.

Other Things to Note

We welcome dogs (that don't chase cats) but we count them as "extra guests" and charge an extra $10/night.

  • Louise and her husband have a beautiful home, it looks just like the pictures. Very pleasant stay, this was my second visit to their home. The flowers in the yard look just like the pictures shown, all beautiful and well cared for. Highly recommend.

  • The Harrison home was exactly as advertised. It is surrounded by lovely gardens and provides guests with a quiet and restful beauty. The Harrison home is a 15 minute walk to Newbury, a lovely quintessential Vermont village. The Harrison are welcoming, friendly and helpful. If you desire a great Vermont get-away experience this is the place.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Louise and Marv's house in Newbury. They are both very nice people, eager to share their knowledge of the area where they live with their guests. We would recommand this bed and breakfast to anyone wishing to visit the White Mountains and looking for peace and quietness.

  • This was my first Airbnb experience, and it was fantastic! Louise and Marv were great hosts, and my dog, Finn McKool, had a wonderful time playing with Raney. The setting was gorgeous, and the accommodations were perfect. I haven't slept so well in ages. It was quiet, beautiful and very comfortable. I was in the area for an event in Saint Johnsbury, and Newbury was just a short, scenic drive away. I highly recommend the Harrisons' place.

  • Louise and Marv were wonderful hosts. The rooms were exactly as described. There is plenty of privacy. The town of Newbury is quaint and still as I imagine it was 100 years ago. The town's residents gather at the Village Market for fresh baked muffins and coffee each morning. A great way to start your day of exploring the New England hillside.

  • Louise and Marv were extremely friendly and helpful and have a beautiful house, that Louise designed herself. They cooked us a lovely dinner. They were both super-friendly, while maintaining a good balance between being helpful and interested and letting us go our own way. We highly recommend staying at their place - do go for a meal too if you get the chance.

  • Louise was a wonderful and friendly hostess. We felt very welcome and could not have asked for better accommodations. The setting was lovely and very relaxing. If we are able to return to the Newbury area we certainly would try to stay with Louise again.

  • Totally wonderful place, great privacy, wonderful breakfast. Best part was Louise - her open-hearted eagerness to be of help and to share.

About
My husband and I are both 60. He works at the local bank and I work part-time for a local classified paper, and sew slip-covers. We've lived in Vermont for almost 40 years and love it here. I like to take walks with my dog Raney, swim, garden, read, sew and do house projects. My husband is a fan of fishing, kayaking, tennis, golf, gardening and community work. We also like to spend time in Portland, Oregon where our only son lives with his wife.
