About this listing
You're in the center of town, yet surrounded by woods. Quiet and relaxing but within easy walking distance to colleges, restaurants and public transportation. Country living, cozy, and family friendly, with all the conveniences and culture you want.
Cozy private room in 100+ yr. old house. Stream, garden and greenhouse in the back yard, a stone's throw from Amherst town center, and to the University of MA. (Within walking distance from the Peter Pan Busline.) Beautiful guest bathroom, cable, internet, kitchen privileges, and solar hot water which is always hot!
Expect friendliness, and privacy, long walks through woods, town, or campuses.
Beautiful neighborhood, any season of the year. Plenty of interesting restaurants including Japanese, Vietnamese, East African, Indian, American, high and low end. Plenty of culture in this 5 College area. Excellent transportation during the academic seasons.
You are welcome to use kitchen, dining room, living room, the outdoor "cafe," front porch and yard. I am happy to help you find your way to the University through the woods (literally "over the river and through the woods")!
Interaction with Guests
I am happy to help guests regarding their stay. I can recommend routes for avoiding traffic, restaurants within your price range, points of interest in town and beyond, and public transportation. I have lived here for 20+ years, and know the area well.
This is an old and very desirable neighborhood with many interesting features. Across the street are chickens and fruit trees. I am surrounded by woods, gardens and a stream, yet located in the middle of town.
There is excellent transportation by bus during the academic year, and the service is adequate during the summer months. The 5 colleges, UMass, Amherst, Smith, Hampshire and Mt. Holyoke, support an inter-campus bus system. Peter Pan bus lines go to both the UMass campus and Amherst center (slightly closer to me, and an easier walk). The Amtrak train goes through Northampton. There are also possibilities to rent bicycles through me or my neighbor, zip car and Uber options. A Megabus station is at the Hampshire Mall in Hadley, but connecting bus routes to town are rather sparse.
Other Things to Note
I enjoy meeting my guests and spending a little time talking with them. You are welcome in my home. Plan to enjoy the sites! There's so much culture and fun in this town, and in this area! It is a beautiful place to enjoy nature - worth staying a few extra days if you're here on business.
I teach music in the afternoons, so guests are expected to be quiet during that time of day. I live in the house and do a lot of cooking, so I ask that guests ask to use the kitchen, and are respectful and flexible regarding their cooking needs. No smoking is allowed inside the house. I have a cat who mostly likes to be outside.
