My apartment is blocks from the lake. I have a nice spacious place with old vintage charm. The neighborhood has a nice collection of anything from pizza to thai to sushi and a frozen custard shop at the end of my block. It's my home and I love it.
This clean, spacious, fully rehabbed, furnished and equipped apartment, all to yourself. The apartment has vintage charm still in tact not forgetting numerous modern amenities. Located close to the redline el train with a urban city surrounding, featuring separate kitchen/dining area, beautiful hardwood floors, on-site coin laundry, closet space. It's located only 2 blocks from the Lakefront and Hollywood Beach, Loyola University campus, Edgewater's restaurants and coffee shops (Metropolis coffee a block north), LA Fitness a the end of my block, (Whole Foods -soon to open- across the street), CVS and Walgreens pharmacies, and public transportation. The apartment is on the top floor of a 3 floor courtyard building so no footsteps can be heard overhead.

The neighborhood is changing and has many diverse restaurants and the best part is it's proximity to the lake. Blocks away from Hollywood beach or the lakeshore bike and walking path ends in my neighborhood. Convenient Walgreens and CVS and an old Chicago pizza place located just north called Gino's North.
Located right between two stops on the redline. One block north is the "Granville" stop and one block south is "Thorndale". Conveniently located just north of where lakeshore drive can get you downtown in a car with great scenic views on your trip.
Other Things to Note
Most importantly: This experience should be similar to staying with friends or family. I am in the home when it's not being rented so it has all the conveniences I need plus a few that I've experienced guests needing. If you have specific needs that I should be aware of please let me know before your stay and I'll do my best to accommodate or have something available or let you know that you may have to provide that yourself during your stay. I love to communicate with you to help you get the best experience.
Please no large gathering or parties in the apartment.
No smoking in the apartment, on the back porch is fine (please properly dispose of your cigarette butts)
I like my neighbors so if you can help me keep them happy by not turning the t.v. or music up late at night that would help keep them my friends.
And lastly, I ask that you help me keep my plants alive while you stay :)
Great experience hosted by Layne. He was in regular communication to make certain the accommodations and all needs were met. Neighborhood has good food offerings and is easily accessible via public transit. Apartment was welcoming and the bed comfortable.
Layne was an excellent host. He was very accommodating and great about communication. I would highly recommend Layne again!
Layne's apartment is in a beautiful part of Chicago. Everything was comfortable and clean and we felt very safe in Andersonville. The red line runs nearby so you can easily get around town. Layne provided great instructions to park for free which was a huge help and he provided ventra cards so we could save $5 getting around on the CTA. We were so lucky to have such an ideal place to stay during our trip. We hope we can come back soon!
In short, this was one of my best Airbnb experiences to date. Layne's apartment is even better than the pictures make it out to be. The stay was extremely comfortable. Layne is a super organized host (he even has a welcome book and spare set of keys readily available) and he's always available for questions or help. The neighborhood is a great mix of calm and busy, with grocery stores all over. Although it takes about 30-40 minutes to get downtown, Layne's apartment is conveniently located between two L stops on the Red Line. I would suggest flying into Midway instead of O'Hare if you're planning on taking the L, otherwise, use a car service.
Layne was a very communicative, friendly, thoughtful, and hospitable host. Nice stay in his cozy home!
My wife and I enjoyed our stay in the apartment. It was as described on-line, cozy for our wintry week, and very pleasant, plenty of room for the 2 of us, in a great location for our visit. Layne was very helpful in making sure we got started on the right foot, with the lock-box for the keys for entry, some basic food items, etc, etc. And we had no issues. Layne checked back a few times to ensure all was fine for us. The apartment is close to the Red line EL, as well as to a couple of useful bus routes, very helpful for getting around Chicago on public transport.
Great apartment/great host. We loved the neighborhood. It's young and lively with great retro antique stores and restaurants. We parked 2 blocks away in a metered spot late at night and then did not have to move the car the next day because it was Sunday. Layne gets an A+ for communication. Bed very comfortable. Apartment nicely decorated, tidy and very clean. Right next to the el tracks and the noise did not bother us at all. Hot water pressure is low, but perfectly acceptable for showering. We definitely hope to stay here again!
I moved here in 2006 from Nebraska to be a professional actor in Chicago. I have been in many productions in Chicago as well as a professional commercial and film actor. Also, I manage a bakery in Lincoln Park called Sweet Mandy B's and I've been working with them for the last 5 years. I'm a big fan of the lake so it's important that I am by the water so being 2 blocks away is a big advantage to where I chose to live.
