Description

The Space

Sleep comfortably in charming private guest room with firm, very comfortable double bed on the second floor of the house. Share the good-sized bathroom with tub/shower; another bathroom with shower is available downstairs. Your room is in a beautifully furnished, clean, well maintained 1886 Victorian house two blocks from restaurants, cafes, bakeries; near George Eastman Museum (6 blocks), Zen Center (3/4 mile), Memorial Art Gallery (1 mile), Eastman School of Music (1.5 miles). Great location for Jazz Festival, city festivals, college graduations, golf. For 1-2 more guests, a double futon is available in my office--see Heart of Park Ave Office Futon listing. In over a decade here, I have redecorated and upgraded the house--new windows, refinished oak floors, etc.--but it's not fussy--dogs and kids are welcome.

House has hardwood floors, tall windows, lots of art/antiques. Huge eat-in kitchen with cabinet for your groceries, share fridge, use cooking facilities. I provide linens, towels, toiletries, hair dryer/flat iron, ironing board and iron. Room fee includes wireless, laundry, use of large eat-in kitchen to store your food and reheat (please ask about cooking), fenced-in back yard, gas grill, 2 living rooms (one with flat-screen TV/DVD). Bike for loan for someone around 5'5" (free). I have a friendly basset hound, so dogs are generally allowed for $10 per night (to arrange in advance). Coffee/tea available here and there's a great bakery and other brunch spots/restaurants on Park Ave. PARKING available for short-term guests in my driveway, shared with me or other guests. You can also park on my street in one of 4 spaces, or on Milburn, the cross-street with alternate day parking (read signs carefully). Other parking available on side streets or other streets, but check signs carefully. Gay-friendly location. Bus to downtown Rochester from Park or University Avenues. Direct bus #31 to Nazareth College. House is 2 miles from downtown Rochester; 3 miles from UR/RIT, near major highways. Located 45 min from Finger Lakes, 75 min from Syracuse, Buffalo, Niagara Falls. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) 'Visit Rochester' for more local info. NO CLEANING FEES. Note: there will be a second dog and a cat visiting 12/23/15-1/31/16.

Guest Access

Free wifi, parking in the driveway for one additional car, use of kitchen, two living rooms (one with 43" TV), laundry (iron & board available), enjoy the backyard, hang out with my affectionate basset hound, borrow a yoga mat or bicycle (for woman, 5'4", or similar sized man).

Interaction with Guests

If I'm not traveling, I like to welcome guests with a cup of tea or glass of wine. I often work at home, so I'm around quite a bit but in the early mornings I take my dog out for a long walk. If you see me upstairs in my office, I am at work, but I keep my door open in case you have a quick question.

The Neighborhood

Beautiful historic neighborhood with lots of trees, old houses, interesting architecture, friendly neighbors walking dogs, close to Park Ave with lots of cafes, restaurants, small stores, 7-Eleven, CVS, dry cleaner. Great for walking around and looking at architecture.

Getting Around

U of Rochester free shuttle buses during the semester stops at the corner of Park and Culver, the RGRTA bus #31 goes downtown, buses 18/19 to UR are not too far away on University Avenue. Bike for loan for person around 5'4". Parking in my driveway included.

Other Things to Note

I speak fluent Spanish, rusty French and a little German. I have traveled around the world and know what it takes to provide comfortable accommodation that meets your needs. If there is something you need, please ask! I am sure you will love my house and the amenities here.
