Interaction with Guests
If possible, I like to welcome guests with a cup of tea or glass of wine. I often work at home, so I'm around quite a bit but in the early mornings I take my dog out for a long walk. If I am upstairs in my office, I am working, but I keep my door open in case you have a quick question.
Beautiful historic neighborhood with lots of trees, old houses, interesting architecture, friendly neighbors walking dogs, close to Park Ave with lots of cafes, restaurants, small stores, 7-Eleven, CVS, dry cleaner. Great for walking around and looking at architecture.

Mary Jane is a very nice lady and she has a cute dog called Rumpole! The location of this house is perfect, with walking distance to Park Ave, which is one of my favorite street in Rochester. Room is okay for a short stay. Coffee and tea are available in the kitchen.
MJ was very welcoming and kind. Her home was cozy, and we enjoyed staying there. We felt comfortable. The best part of all?... The location! If you're going to stay in downtown Rochester, the location can't be beat. We were able to walk just one block to Park Avenue, where there are gorgeous tree-lined streets, coffee shops, and things to do. We were very happy!
I stayed in Mary's lovely house for five days. Mary is a very nice host. She drove me to my workplace two days when it is raining outside. The puppy is very nice and friendly too. The room is comfortable and spacious. The location of the house just cannot be better. I enjoyed the restaurants at park avenue a lot.
Mary Jane is a wonderful host with a wonderful home in easily the best part of Rochester... My visit was actually a trip specifically to look for an apartment in Rochester and I quickly narrowed my search to only look at places in her neighborhood-- that's how nice it is! Mary Jane was very friendly and welcoming; she provided great advice and leads for moving to the area and looking for housing, and her home (and her dog) are lovely-- very comfortable room and bed (and also a fantastic selection of books in the room, by the way; I was carrying my own novels but abandoned them to read from her collection while I was there), as well as a charming back yard, kitchen, etc. She also provided a large binder filled with maps and information on things to see and do in Rochester and the city's history.
Her house is so well located that I actually made the 2.5-day trip without a car and I walked all over Park Avenue and East Avenue, over to the East End and downtown, and down to South Wedge from her home. (I would not necessarily recommend following suit... Rochester is clearly a place where a car comes in handy... but it's doable-- especially in nice weather!) Just moments from her home are a lovely string of restaurants, cafes, and shops on Park Avenue, many of them with outdoor seating in the spring/summer. You'll be glad you came!
MJ was the perfect host! Her house is so lovely, comfortable, and convenient to local amenities. The room was clean, comfortable, and private. The neighborhood is quaint and quiet at night. The house is within a short walking distance to many delicious restaurants, coffee shops, and the George Eastman House (the main destination of our trip). We took MJ's recommendation and tried Sinbad's restaurant - the falafel was so delicious!! Altogether, we had a wonderful stay at MJ's house and hope to visit again!

About the Host, Mary Jane
I am very sociable but I keep early hours--usually up by 6:30 and in bed by 10:30. As a college professor, I work at home a lot, especially in the summer, and I do a lot of cooking and stuff around the house and garden. I have a comfortable house and want guests to feel at home here, while respecting the fact that I work at home. I am an animal lover, especially dogs! There are often visiting dogs and the occasional other pet here (not cats), and friends come and go regularly. I have traveled to many parts of the world and lived in Costa Rica, Germany, France, and the UK. As a film and music buff, living in Rochester is heaven--never a shortage of movies to see.
I like guests to feel at home. I will give you space in the fridge and kitchen to store your food and if you want to cook, we can usually arrange time and space for you to do that. I have a very well equipped and big farm-style kitchen to cook and eat in. The back garden is lovely to sit in and the wireless extends there too.
