The "Pink Room": Peaceful, private room with comfortable, firm double bed in 1886 Victorian house in historic Park Ave area. Room faces east, tall windows, central AC. One block from cafes, restaurants; near highways, East Ave Historic District, Eastman Museum, RMSC, Zen Center, 1 mile from Memorial Art Gallery, 3 miles from U of Rochester. Shared driveway parking available. Dogs by arrangement--$15/night extra. COVID vaccination required if you are eligible.

The space
Charming private room with firm, comfortable full-sized bed on the second floor of beautifully furnished, clean, well-maintained 1886 Victorian house with central AC. House has hardwood floors, tall windows, lots of art/antiques. Large eat-in kitchen with cabinet for your groceries, share fridge, use cooking facilities (please arrange to cook, please wash up!). Kitchen has just been completely renovated, and a new big back porch added onto the kitchen. I provide linens, towels, toiletries, hair dryer/flat iron, ironing board and iron. Rate includes wireless, laundry, use of fenced-in back yard, dining room. Note: I keep my house on the cool side, for my comfort and health (I can faint if too hot) and for the environment. There is a space heater in your room but the rest of the house is on the cool side.

House is two blocks from restaurants, cafes, bakeries; near George Eastman Museum (6 blocks), Zen Center (3/4 mile), Memorial Art Gallery (1 mile), Kinections, Writers and Books, Eastman School of Music (1.5 miles). Great location for Jazz Festival, festivals, graduations, golf. In 14 years here, I have redecorated and upgraded the house--new windows, refinished oak floors, etc.--but it's not fussy--kids are welcome (pets by arrangement). Upstairs large bathroom with tub/shower is shared; another bathroom with shower available downstairs. For a third guest in the room (child), air mattress available ($15 additional). Another private room listing-- double futon bed --is available for short stays for more than two people--please ask me!

PARKING available to share my driveway. You can also park on my street in one of 4 spaces, or on Milburn, the cross-street with alternate day parking (read signs carefully). Other parking available on side streets or other streets, but check signs carefully. Bus to downtown Rochester from Park or University Avenues. Direct bus #31 to Nazareth College and city center. House is 2 miles from downtown Rochester; 3 miles from UR/RIT, near major highways. Located 45 min from Finger Lakes, 75 min from Syracuse, Buffalo, Niagara Falls. NYC is 5-6 hours away. See Visit Rochester website for more local info.

I'm a local professor, living in Rochester since 2003 and loving it! I'm can recommend places to eat, drink and visit. I work at home and during the pandemic I'm online a lot for work, yoga, church. I also do a lot of cooking and work around the house and garden. (Normally) I go out to the movies, music and restaurants a lot, or host my partner and friends. I'm a busy and active person. I have a comfortable house and want guests to feel at home here, while respecting the fact that I work at home. I'm an early to bed (by 10:30) and early to rise (by 6:30) kind of person. Also an animal lover, especially dogs! I have a basset hound named Rowan who is very friendly. There are sometimes visiting dogs and the occasional other pet at my house and my partner comes over often. I have traveled to many parts of the world and lived in Costa Rica, Chile, Germany, France, and the UK. As a film and music buff, for me living in Rochester is heaven--never a shortage of movies to see or concerts. Guests share space in the fridge and kitchen to store food, if desired. If you want to cook, we can arrange a time. I have a well equipped and newly renovated kitchen to cook and eat in. The new back porch and garden is lovely to sit in as well.

During your stay
I am now fully working at home, so I'm around most of the time. I teach in the evenings (2x/week). If you see me at the desk upstairs in the blue room, I am at work, but happy to answer a quick question. I cook a lot so am often in the kitchen in the evenings, and my partner often comes over for dinner and to watch TV.
