Essex County Wine Country Retreat

House - Private room · Sunset Ave, Kingsville, ON N9Y 2T3, Canada

The Space

Two cozy rooms are available to book in a spacious, beautifully renovated ranch house in the midst of Essex County, minutes away from Pelee Island, Mastronardi, Aleksander Estate and many other award-winning wineries. In addition are Point Pelee, the most southern tip of Canada (great for bird watchers) and Colasanti Tropical Gardens - just minutes away!

Guests can expect breakfast first morning. I share the house with my mother and step-father and we are very social - the coffee pot is brewing all day long. You are welcome to share kitchen and all spices.

Looking for a quiet getaway? This is the place! The backyard is a calm oasis of lush greenery. Need to unwind? We have a beautiful sunny deck to enjoy.

Five minutes away is the picturesque town of Kingsville. If you love sushi, there are two wonderful restaurants nearby as well as local pubs, Italian and Chinese restaurants. And not to forget Leamington where you can find major shopping, Lakeside Bakery and Cafe (the best breads, pastries and cakes in the county), the marina and various parks.

I am right between Kingsville and Leamington ferries to Pelee Island.

Further afield is the beautiful and historical town of Amherstburg and of course the city of Windsor, both about thirty-five minutes away. Forty-five minutes is the Detroit/Windsor border. In the Motor City, the Ford Museum is a must-see as well as Mexicantown where you can enjoy great authentic cuisine.

Unfortunately no buses operate in Kingsville so you must provide your own transportation.

Look forward to meeting you!

  • We had a very enjoyable canadian experience under Robert's roof and we could really appreciate what was in the region thanks to his advice.
The little conversations we had around a (few) glass(es) of wine were very much appreciated :D
The house itself is bright and big. We felt cosy even in the winter. The lanscape was beautiful and the neighborhood very quiet.

Thanks robert for these very nice days in your company and keep in touch!

  • This was a very clean and welcoming home. Liz, Gilles, and Rob have done a lot of traveling and have applied what they have appreciated in their travels to their own Airbnb listing. This is a very friendly household located in a beautiful part of the country. This might be helpful for other travellers: there are no cats or smokers in this household, making it ideal for people with allergies to these.

  • Staying with Rob was a great pleasure. He knows the area well and had great recommendations. He, Liz and Gil were also generously attentive hosts. The house is awesome and the added bonus of great conversation really made our trip wonderful.

  • My stay with Rob couldn't have been more pleasant. The accommodations and setting were clean, private, tranquil and very friendly. Rob's wine, food, art and movie knowledge along with stories of his European travels and heritage were all bonuses and created a welcoming genuinely friendly atmosphere. Even though my visit to Rob's retreat happened when the cold winter winds were blowing, I could tell that this was a place that could be enjoyed in any season. Birder's, Wine Experts or just folks who want to explore the southern most town in Canada would find this home a very enjoyable stay. I look forward to coming back and enjoying Rob's company and accommodations again..

I am an old soul. I love all things artistic, literary, musical before the mid-twentieth century. I am currently writing a book about my life and experience with a life-threatening illness in addition to a verse novel about an Austrian winemaker and his 'escapades'. I play guitar as well and can sing (while living in Vancouver, I recorded twelve of my songs with a recording student at PAVI). I enjoy good conversation. I'm well read. My favourite books include Joseph Roth's The Radetsky March, Proust's In Search of Lost Time, Steinbecks' The Grapes of Wrath, Thomas Mann's Doktor Faustus, the poetry of Rilke, Trakl, Lorca, Akhamtova, the stories of Ivan Bunin, the philosophies of Plato and Schopenhauer. In addition, I love classical music, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Schumann, Schubert, and opera. I am a non-smoker. I drink wine and like the French, believe that getting drunk is only an accidental aspect of appreciating a good vintage. (I am a huge fan of Spanish wine, German Riesling from the Mosel and Southern Germany and Valpolicella - also Aglianico from Campania in Southern Italy) This past summer I traveled though Europe for the first time using AirBnB 95% of the time for my accommodations. I visited over thirty cities and met some wonderful people in Holland, Belgium, Germany and Spain. I am hoping to return the favour now by being a host myself. I play guitar and am looking to get involved with music scene in Kingsville.
