  • We had a wonderful stay with Carolyn. She was an exceptionally friendly and helpful hostess. We especially enjoyed the breakfasts she prepared for us; what a treat! We had everything we needed, and in a convenient location to boot. We're looking forward to planning our return trip!

  • Our visit with Caroline was exceptional. We were looking for a place to stay in between visits to children and grandchildren who lived in Connecticut and New Jersey. Boston seemed to be the place and "A Literary Agent's Guest Place" was the perfect location to stay in the area. Caroline is a gracious, witty, informative, and generous host. She entertained us with stories of her past, the city, the publishing industry, and shared her knowledge of things to see and do in Boston. Her suggestions were right on. One of her best tips was taking the ferry from Boston Harbor to Salem. We spent a wonderful day experiencing the sun, wind in our hair, and sea breeze on our faces...as well as learning about the history surrounding the Salem Witch Trials and seeing the various sites. The room was exceptionally clean and spacious. It was nice to have a private bathroom that was just ours. Like others have said, the T was right across the street and easy to access and get around on. The building is modern, secure, and houses a pool, fitness center, sauna, and hot tub...all available to Caroline's guests.
We loved our stay with Caroline and couldn't be happier with our experience.

  • This is a case where the book jacket can't quite do justice to the book.

Carolyn was exceedingly warm and gracious, and went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable, and was willing to chat and share her impressive knowledge of the city. Her cats are docile and friendly (Finn's even a bit shy!) and steered clear of my room.

The room itself was spacious with tasteful decoration and a comfortable bed (I like mine a bit softer, but I still slept solidly both nights of my stay). There's a private bathroom which is again quite spacious and with a shower I wish I could take home with me. The room and the house were very clean, certainly as clean as a hotel, and in my opinion, cleaner.

Carolyn also served breakfast each morning consisting of eggs, croissants, tomatoes, coffee, and juice. Well-prepared, filling, and delicious. She kept me company, and advised me how I could best travel to my destination, and then sent me off with a cheery greeting.

The area itself was different than I'd expected; it was much quieter, and felt like a small town in the middle of a large city. Her building is secured, so there's an added sense of security, but I never felt uncomfortable, not even returning on foot at 9pm. The area's heavily treed, and I travelled in early summer, so the front gardens were in bloom and the neighbourhood was verdant -- it's the sort of place that you step into, pause, and breathe in deeply.

Location-wise, it's steps from the T station, which has cheap parking, and transportation on the Red line to pretty much anywhere in boston. It took me about 35 minutes to get from the station there to downtown in morning rush-hour traffic, and then it was an additional 20 minutes to get to my gate at Logan International, but despite the length, the travel was comfortable. There were loads of people working on their laptops or using their phones, so I didn't feel unsafe using mine.

There's also a decent Italian restaurant steps from the apartment. I ate there one night, and it was acceptable -- not world-class cuisine, but certainly on par with most restaurants. I ate downtown on the second night, and the food quality was excellent. If you're coming for the food, though, Carolyn can tell you where best to go.

This was a fantastic value. If I come back to Boston -- as I expect to, next year -- I'll be booking with Carolyn as quickly as possible.

    Response from Carolyn:

Rob, thank you for that suggestion. I can adjust the a/c to any desirable temp the guest would like, we had it down to 68 last week. I'm sorry I didn't know you needed it cooler. Thank you for a lovely write up. Best, Carolyn

  • Carolyn was a wonderful host and helped us to feel at home and ease immediately. This is a great location with the T station and walking trails just a stones throw. Very easy to get to and the directions were perfect! Our breakfasts were very good and the conversation flowed across varied subjects. Carolyn has had a very interesting life and it was fun to compare experiences. Angus and Finney were an impressive presence as well! I would advise those with cat allergies to look elsewhere. We were free to come and go at our leisure and would certainly go back

  • We had a wonderful stay at Carolyn's place. She was such a nice host and gave some really good advises about the area and great places to eat. The place is very convenient to get around. We enjoyed our stay, the breakfast, the room and the very nice talks to Carolyn and her wonderful cats. If we will be back in the area we will definately stay here again.

  • Carolyn 's place was perfect for my recent visit to Boston. Having never visited the area before, Carolyn helped with directions from the airport and made several suggestions on where to eat in Cambridge. The T train stop is right across the street which was extremely convenient and a cheap way to travel around the city. She always had coffee and a bite to eat ready for us in the morning and worked around all our plans. Our trip couldn't have been more pleasant!

  • I had a great stay at Carolyn, it was like meeting an old friend. The place was neat and bright, spacious, with a very comfy bed. Bathroom, toiletries and storage space were very good and handy too. The location is great being so close to the T, easy to find and just so handy to get about anywhere in no time. Cat lovers will be delighted, however these friendly cats are not invasive. Definitely a place to recommend, I will stay again!

  • Carolyn was a wonderful host and a pleasant person. She made sure I was comfortable through out my stay.
The flat is located in Cambridge, just a stones throw from the 'T'. Carolyn gave me a lot of tips on what to see and do in Boston.
Also she made me a great veg. breakfast on both days...
Very comfortable, neat and clean, closet and drawer space, fresh towels and good quality toiletries.
Cats were not a bother at all.
