The Transportation

The 2B and 2C metro bus stops are only 2 blocks from my door. Both will take you directly to Ballston, the closest metro station, which is less than 2 miles away. DC is only a 10 minute train ride from Ballston Station.

The guest room is located in the rear of the apartment. You'll sleep/lounge in a comfortable queen bed, complete with fresh linens. Store your belongings in the closet and make yourself at home. There is an iron and ironing board available for your use.

The Shared Spaces

Kitchen and Dining Room

Although cooking privileges are not available, you're free to use the microwave, coffee pot, and toaster.

A shelf in the refrigerator is available for drinks or any leftovers you may pick up from area establishments such as The Lost Dog Café, The Stray Cat Cafe, Thai Noy, or Lebanese Taverna.

Clean towels and washcloths are provided upon your arrival. You’re more than welcome to bring your own, but basic toiletries such as body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion are available for your use.

The Parking

Plenty of free, unrestricted street parking is available.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Shawanda is a very good guest and always ready to help or answer my questions. The apartment is nice and clean in a quiet neighbourhood. Metro is around 20min walk distance, could be a little further for some people but I love to walk so I didn't have any problem. There is a big mall in front of the metro and many restos in the same area. There are a big beautiful park a couple of blocks from the building to do jogging or jus walk and appreciate the nature. In general I enjoy my stay there and I recommend it.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Shawanda's apartment during my visit to D.C. It is a 2 block walk to the bus stop and a 10 minute ride to the metro station. If the bus was not available the time you needed it, it is just an average $7 cab ride to the metro from the apartment. The room was clean and comfy as Shawanda states. I feel I got a taste of D.C. living. It was a home away from home.

  • Clean, comfortable, and quiet. The room was exactly what I needed for my week on business in DC. Finding the building was no problem since I had my own car, but guests coming without should either know how to ride the bus or be ready to walk for a little while from the subway.

  • Great place to stay! Very clean and quiet! Nice location would definitely stay again.

  • Apartment is impeccably clean, spacious, well-maintained and very private. Two-block walk to bus line serving several Metro stops; 10 minutes to National Science Foundation. Nice stroll (although a little hilly!) to Westover shopping area.

  • Shawanda is a great host. The accomodations were as advertised...clean and comfy. Only a 2 blocks to the nearest bus stop which brings you to the Ballston Metro station, which is a few stops from downtown DC. Very convenient.

  • I stayed with Shawanda while traveling in DC to find housing for my husband and I. A trip that was stressful at times, Shawanda's hospitality and comfortable apartment helped ease the days's difficulties away! Shawanda was just incredibly friendly and even let me tag along on a trip to Target with her. At one of her most generous moments, she took me to the nearest metro stop on a morning when I had a job interview so I didn't need to walk to the bus stop in my business suit. Staying with her made my trip just so much better! Thanks Shawanda!

  • It was a very nice room with a comfortable bed. I love the neighborhood, the large park nearby with walking paths, a creek and gardens.

  • I enjoyed my stay at Shawanda's. She's a very nice person, ready to help whenever she can. Her apartment is clean, nice and well located, just outside of DC, in the nice neighborhood of Arlington.
The only negative aspect of my stay there was in terms of public transportation: you need to take a bus between the apartment and the metro station, and buses are not that frequent. It seems much more convenient for someone with a car.

  • Shawanda's place is zoo nice and lovely! She lets you stay in her own room while she stays in couch - how hospitable she is! I love her apartment - so neat and tidy and simplified! Her place is in a nice neighbourhood, not so far from the city...I took a cab once and not so expensive ($10) to Pennsylvania Ave. The buses are also near but on weekends I think they take sometime to come by. Subway is also good but you still need to get a bus ride (less than 10mins away) from the metro subway stations. Shawanda is the nicest person to host you and she's very easy going. I truly enjoyed my stay with her and truly recommend her place to anyone who will need place in Washington DC - which is a beautiful city esp in spring!

I'm a Certified Public Accountant working and playing in the greater metro D.C. area. I moved here over 5 years ago from Orlando, Florida, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I'm a bit of a foodie, so I'm all about experiencing the different restaurants D.C. has to offer. When I'm not working, you'll find me reading, listening, and debating the topic of politics (but only with those who welcome it.) I can't help it. I've been hooked since the 2008 presidential primaries. On occasion, you might catch me blogging, tweeting or teaching others about personal finance. Although I'm personable (and totally willing to help you out in any way that I can), I enjoy a great deal of quiet time. Meaning, non-talkative guests who crave the sweet sound of silence will get along fine with me. :) Seriously, don't feel pressured to engage me in conversation every time we cross paths.
