Bunkhouse accommodations appeal to students and budget-minded travelers alike who want to spend the majority of their time enjoying the Ranch and outdoors. The Bunkhouse’s communal terrace offers a covered open-air space to play games or music at large family-style tables and benches. There is also a wide hammock for reading, stargazing and soaking in the soothing sounds of the rainforest.

Guests in the Bunkhouse often find themselves in their own room, but rooms may be shared dependent upon availability at the time of check-in. Maximum 2-people per room.

BUNKHOUSE ALL-INCLUSIVE DOES NOT INCLUDE:
- Optional adventure tours (horse/kayak)
- Massage services
- Souvenir shop purchases
- Charges from the bar (soft drinks or alcohol)

ABOUT RANCHO MARGOT:
In 2004, the Sostheim family bought 400 acres (162 hectares) and chose the name Rancho Margot, in honor of Juan Sostheim’s mother. At that time, the valley was an over-grazed cattle ranch, barren of trees and wildlife. Today, thanks to reforestation and efforts to propagate indigenous species of plants, the Ranch is alive and teeming with hummingbirds, butterflies and is home to one of the largest varieties and densities of birds in Costa Rica. At Rancho Margot, we recognize that education is the key to progress. By preserving and expanding the rainforest, we live what we teach everyday. At Rancho Margot, students in our Eco-Literacy Program, guests, volunteers, residents and staff are constantly planting. In sync with the seasons and our changing environment, we continue to paint on an ever-changing living canvas. We especially enjoy experiencing this landscape through the eyes of our returning guests who come back year after year to experience our growth…and to renew.

WE ALSO OFFER HORSEBACK TOURS, KAYAK TOURS AND SO MUCH MORE!

BUNKHOUSE PRICING:
$75 per person, per night.

The Neighborhood

Our motto sums it up perfectly:
Where the Middle of Nowhere is Somewhere Special.

We are literally located in the middle of the rainforest. We are 26km from La Fortuna which is where you will find the closest ATM, bank, gas station, etc.

Our closest village, El Castillo, is 3km away and is a really nice 40-minute walk along the shore of Lake Arenal in front of the majestic volcano.

Getting around

From La Fortuna, there is a twice-daily collective shuttle that can transport guests to Rancho Margot for $8.00 per person. Otherwise, most guests reach us by car, private driver or taxi.

  • Rancho Margo is a really nice place. The sustainability card is genuine, the quality of food was great (surprising for a buffet!). There is a lot to do around, everything at a steep price.

The only minus I would point out was that the bunk house rooms don't have enough space for your luggage.

  • Loved Rancho Margot! Beautiful landscape, sweet employees, great yoga, lovely animals, yummy food, gorgeous weather over Christmas, yummy piña coladas! I'd come back here for sure! Find the path around the pond with the floating bridge that leads down to the river... a great spot to bask in the sun on a huge rock and dip in the water for a refreshing swim!

About
Rancho Margot is a family enterprise focused on sustainable business operation and living. With a staff of 30 people, an average of 8 to 10 rotating volunteers and upwards of 10,000 annual visitors, Rancho Margot is a remote and dynamic place. We are located in a lush lakeside valley between rain and cloud forests in a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Biosphere Reserve. In addition to providing a peaceful place that facilitates connection with nature, Rancho Margot strives to inspire each visitor to relax, enjoy and explore ways in which they can incorporate the concept of sustainability into their own lives. Along with a 5-Leaf Award by CST in 2012, Rancho Margot was also featured on ‘The Next List’ on CNN (Cable News Network), a program devoted to innovation and forward-thinking individuals from around the globe highlighting big ideas and events that will help to shape our collective future. “What Juan Sostheim does better than most is create that ‘Aha!’ moment’ when you say, “Yeah. I get it! We’re all part of the same cycle – the same circle of life,” reported Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Chief Medical Correspondent for CNN. Rancho Margot is also recommended by the most recent Lonely Planet as the ‘Best Place to Stay’ in Northwestern Costa Rica.
