  • Wonderful, very warm hosts! Wonderful island, apartment! It was one of the best our vacations and Ulrike, Kaela and Andre were part of it. Apartment is nice done and very clean. Bed is very comfortable. Place is quiet, but not far from Rodney Bay. Connection is easy by car and by local bus. The view from apartment is very nice. So every morning we were just siting with the cup of coffe in terrace and enjoying the view. Have no doubt book this apartment and enjoy your vacations!

  • Ulrike and Andre were very wonderful hosts. Both are very knowledgeable about the Island and it's beauty. Andre took us on a tour of their property showcasing all of the various plants and trees, describing their history, medicinal uses, etc. It was quite a delight. They were quick to assist with any questions we had not only about the property but the island as a whole.

Andre and Ulrike also practice a very sustainable life-style which was neat to learn about. Please take care to follow the house-rules and help keep this a low-impact place.

The area is quiet, fairly secluded, and surrounded by beautiful plants and a wonderful view to the northwestern coast. Pigeon Island can be seen off in the distance. Beautiful! Also, all the finches were happy to keep you company in the morning over coffee or tea.

  • This place is great-- wonderful view, clean and nicely done apartment, easy access by the public bus and a major bus route. Nice and quiet if you want to relax but still in proximity to all the activities of town.
Ulriké and André are both very warm, kind and helpful hosts. I would recommend this place I you're lucky enough that it isn't already booked :)

  • We enjoyed our stay in La Borne very much: it's a quiet, nice place away from the carloads of tourists. The connection to Rodney Bay by bus workes out perfectly and allows you to access beach, supermarket, shops and restaurants even without having to rent a car.
Ulrike and André are nice hosts and helped us organize a car rental. The studio is perfectly equipped and clean, the bed cozy and the view is really beautifull!

  • Great host!!! If you are looking for a beautiful appartement far from the big resort but close to colorful, friendly and welcoming community, Ulrike and Andre's appartement, is the place to be!

They are amazing host who will show you around the proprety, help you learn about medicinal plant, share food (they gave us the best indian bread we have ever tasted) and speek to you about local environemental challenges! This place is perfect if you are looking for a more authentic stay that what you would find in Rodney bay!

It is easy to access it by public transportation (the buses leaves you right at the door) and appropriate to family!

  • We had an amazing time in St. Lucia and Ulrike and André were part of it. If you are looking for an authentic and relaxing stay on this beautiful island, don´t hesitate to contact them.
From our arrival to leaving by ferry, they helped us in every situation. Not only picking us up they also gave us one more night as the ferry back to Martinique was not in service due to stormy conditions. They organised some breakfast items and gave us a ride to the supermarket. But best of all were their recommendations for exploring the real beauty and nature of St. Lucia. And of course the perfectly situated apartment with an amazing view. We could not get enough of sitting on the veranda enjoying breakfast and the spectacular view and surrounding nature. The garden including plenty of tropical plants and birds (gorgeous hummingbirds were our favorites) gave us the perfect place to relax. Furthermore, we were lucky to taste some fruits, vegetables and herbs and learned so much about ecotourism and -farming.
All together we had an amazing time in St. Lucia and do definetly recommend this accomodation and Ulrike and André as perfect hosts. When back in the Caribean, we will visit them again and explore the rest of the island as three days were definetly not enough.

    Thanks Ulrike and André!

  • We stayed at Maison Soleil for 1 week and had a fabulous time. The location is superb if you enjoy being out of the touristy areas but also close to beautiful beaches and the areas of Gros Islet and Pigeon Island. You must be willing to walk a bit at times to get around the area and definitely be ok with taking public transit in and out of this area, however, I would highly recommend doing these things anyways as the walk is beuatiful throughout the rolling hills of Monchy and the public transit is a great experience and an opportunity to meet neighbours. The necessary effort to get to and from the guesthouse are also so worth it because the apartment is clean, nicely decorated, and has a stunning (I mean stunning) view of Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island. The proprietors are also extremely helpful in offering tips and advice, and have really made this guesthouse a special place to stay. Be sure to take the time to explore the grounds of the house and ask for advice on ways to get around as this can be a bit tricky. Overall, I would highly recommend this guesthouse.

  • It was a great experience!
They are very warm and welcoming.
I felt like home. Beautiful house and garden, very close to Castries (by car), great view.
The grapefruit in the garden, the fluorescent bugs, the sandy beaches just around the corner, snorkeling.... Just a dream.
If only I could have had more time to spend in ST. Lucia.

  • With a good description it was easy to find the "maison du soleil" up in the hills by car. The apartment was clean and well equipped with kitchen stuff.
I enjoyed to be away from the tourist resorts in a peaceful area. I felt welcome and the grapefruits from the garden were fantastic.
I can fully recommend this place and would be happy to go back there one day. Thanks to Ulrike and André.

  • We Spent 5 Nights at Ulrike and Andres Place. The view over the Mountains Down To the carribean and the Pigeon Islands made every Breakfast on the terrace special. The Apartment is fully equipped and Ulrike and Andre were really nice, giving recomondations and full Support for us and our planings for the Rest of our Island hopping trip.

The Place lies in the beautifull mountain Range behind the Tourist hot Spots of the North Coast and is therefore quiet calm and relaxing. Reaching it is easy if you have a hired car, but more Fun and a good method To get into touch with the Locals was using the local busses. A Ride was always Easy To find and a Ride from Castries was just 3.5 EC.

Tranks again to you, it was a fantastic Stay on the Island.

    Britta and Simon

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind (Job 12:7-10) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ We're all seasoned travelers and naturalists. Ulrike is a biologist, André an agroecologist and inspector for organic agriculture. He's also an outstanding cook. We enjoy the out-doors (although Kaela prefers TV and electronics): hiking, , scuba diving, horseback riding, windsurfing, dancing, capoeira, good food and especially: good company.
