If you have friends on Saint Lucia, whom you would like to invite over for a meal, drink or chat, please let us know in advance and we are happy to facilitate.
Clothes and wet towels should be dried on the lines under the house only.
Use only 220V appliances (except shaver); no transformers, please.
Mailson du Soleil’s tap water is entirely rain-fed and solar-heated. Enjoy it, but do not waste it. We do not recommend visitors drink our tap water. For this purpose, we provide carbon-filtered municipal (treated & potable) tap water free of charge.
We separate non-biodegradable from organic waste for composting. Please collaborate by using the two bins provided accordingly. This not only helps our organic garden, but also prevents vermin and stray dogs being attracted by the garbage placed outside for collection and disposal.
Your security deposit will be returned in full unless there is breakage, loss and/or damage. If you fail to return the apartment key upon check-out, we will retain US$75 of the deposit to facilitate a change of locks.
Guests visit Maison du Soleil entirely at their own risk, i.e. management is not responsible for any injury or loss sustained. Children need to be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
Sincerely an incredible experience in St. Lucia! Ulrike, Andre, and Kaela are really kind and intelligent company, and it was a pleasure to stay here. Their stories are captivating, as they've accomplished and been exposed to a lot. They were also generous enough to set up a rental car for us. As locals, they know a lot of the island, so ask for pointers. I hope we can visit again!
Ulrike, André & Kaela made me feel very welcome at their lovely home.
I experienced all sorts of new and interesting things, some just in front of the (website hidden) Lucia is just lovely and André went out of his way to help me get to two appointments on time. He showed me where to shop in Rodney Bay as he took me to the apartment from the airport. We stopped to stock up on my weekend essentials en route, which was a great idea.
I was travelling alone and felt very safe at the apartment. And, having heard some stories about the island not being too safe, I can honestly say that I didn't find it so. It was friendly and welcoming throughout.
The apartment is lovely. The lovely high bed was welcoming and very comfortable. The mosquito net was an interesting experience... and by the third night, it felt as if it was second nature to crawl underneath and sleep within. Ulrike gave me a mozzie zapper and I enjoyed frying anything that dared to buzz too close! Although, to be fair, there weren't many opportunities to use it, which I was grateful for.
There's a lovely, welcome breeze that fills the apartment, especially if you leave the front door open as well as the windows.
Neighbours walk by and call a friendly 'hello' if they see you. There are hummingbirds and lizards to entertain you, among many more of nature's characters. The vegetation in the garden and the surrounding area is alive with colour.
The flat has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. There is no TV or phone, so have your own entertainment system with you. It's a bit of a hike to the village of Monchy but a minibus stops just near the apartment that takes you all the way to Castries.
I went from the apartment to Soufriere via the local bus for the princely sum of EC $12.50 (just over £3 GBP), changing buses once only, which was amazing! On a future trip to the island, though, I would have little hesitation in hiring a car and exploring more of the island, much more easily than using public transport.
With a car, Maison du Soleil is a perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
All in all, it was a fabulous first impression of St Lucia.
Would I recommend Maison du Soleil to my friends - I already have; some of which think it will be perfect for when they pop over from Barbados for Jazz Festival.
As stated in other guests' reviews, Ulrike and Andre were very kind hosts and all communication before, during, and after our visit was excellent. Ulrike took the time to fully answer any of our questions.
The area where the home is located is beautiful and tranquil and it is true that accessing the beach and city does not take too long. We did not rent a car and traveled solely by bus, so there were longer periods of waiting, but we did feel that we had an authentic experience. We only stayed a few days, so if we stayed longer, we probably would want a car so that we could explore more areas and stay out later.
We enjoyed eating at Gennet's Place (not sure of spelling) which is located in the vicinity. We are sad that we didn't have time for more delicious meals there. Thank you Andre for organizing the lambi (conch) and for finding the guavas!
Thank you Ulrike and Andre, we really enjoyed our stay with you and look forward to future visits. We loved the location of the apartment high in the hills above Rodney Bay. Being able to escape the tourist trail and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the surroundings was perfect for us and we were able to explore the area extensively in our hire car. The highlight for us as nature lovers were the humming birds which constantly buzzed about. Our hosts kindly put out feeders near our patio and we were rewarded with very close views which were truly magical. Madison du Soleil is indeed a very special place.
We had an wonderful time in Saint Lucia. The apartment has a spectacular view. The flowers, lush forest and birds around the house are a photographers dream. We loved taking in the local atmosphere and the enjoyed magical evenings with beautiful sunsets away from the bustle.
What a great place to kick back and relax.
Ulrike and Andre are just lovely, so helpful and incredibly knowledgable of the island and its sights. Ulrike always had great suggestions and is very in tune as to what her guests might enjoy doing. We did a lot of 'off the beaten track trips' and loved it. It's been a pleasure meeting them and staying at the apartment. Highly recommend their place.
Ulrike and Andre were such wonderful hosts! They were both incredibly warm and welcoming, and made us feel at home in their amazing apartment. Ulrike was hugely helpful before our arrival, giving directions, local tips, and arranging for a rental car. We had a lot of fun being shown around the garden by Andre and learning about local food and culture. The apartment was cute and tidy, with a wonderful shower (essential after beach days!), a comfortable bed (essential after hiking days!), and a gorgeous view of the coast. Peaceful and quiet setting, but perfectly located to explore both coasts and the interior of the island, or run into town for dinner or provisions. We relaxed on the patio every day for breakfast, watching the birds (and watching the cat watching the birds!), and enjoying the view. Our hosts had great tips about places to see and eat in the area. We only stayed a few nights at the apartment, but it felt like home!

About the Host, Ulrike, André & Kaela
But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind (Job 12:7-10)

We're all seasoned travelers and naturalists. Ulrike is a biologist, André an agroecologist and inspector for organic agriculture. He's also an outstanding cook.

The most popular beach on St Lucia: varied watersports offers, beach chairs & parasols, bars, restaurants - the works - but obviously it is quite touristy. Ask us if you prefer a quieter beach.
Great place for kite- and wind-surfing. A "wilder" beach than found on the Caribbean side. Best with own transport.

Climb the iconic Piton - a moderately strenuous (ca 4 hours round trip) hike. Afterwards relax in the hot springs and enjoy a waterfall massage.
Maria Major harbours unique wildlife, especially endemic reptiles and sea birds. Because of its vulnerability, visits must be arranged through the St Lucia National Trust; we will happily assist.
