Interaction with guests

'Ohana Nui means Big Family, which is what we aspire to be to our guests. This is not a party house by any means, just a nice place to come home to, relax, and make new friends. Our home is smoke-free and drug-free, and is kept clean and tidy. You are expected to also respect our house and our fellow guests.

Someone is typically always home. Our housemates/guests vary, but are mostly business travelers, transplants, and vacationers. Many are repeat guests, and typically respectful, responsible, and friendly. We also have two very well-behaved children living here from time to time, so please be child friendly.

The neighborhood

Our house is located in a residential neighborhood of Honolulu (Palolo Valley). We are just outside the craziness of Waikiki but it's a hop, skip and jump away if you want to go there. We are conveniently located about a mile away from the H1 on-ramps and off-ramps. Our street crosses Waialae Avenue, which is home to many great eateries to satisfy any palate-- Town Restaurant, Big City Diner, Zippy's, Aloha Crepes, Azteca. Follow Waialae Ave. east for a few minutes and you'll be at Kahala Mall-- more eateries: The Counter, CPK, Chili's, Whole Foods, Starbucks/Jamba, etc. 3 supermarkets are also close.

Getting around

Renting a car or moped while here is highly recommended, as the house is tucked away in the back of a valley. If you have a moped/motorcycle/bicycle, there is safe and private off-street parking. If you have a car, there's street parking. (You'll need to walk up a steep driveway to the house, so be comfortable with doing that.) However if you do plan on using the bus as your main mode of transportation, there is a covered bus stop for "TheBus #9S" right across the street from the house.
Note: If you plan on staying longer than 30 days and would like affordable vehicle options, just ask.

Other things to note

The house does have unavoidable stairs and a rather steep driveway, so please be comfortable walking up and down them.

We have a very relaxed check in and check out procedure. If your check-in or check-out times don't fit the Airbnb times, just let us know, we will do our best to work around your schedule.

Brendan was an amazing host, from the second I arrived he was so welcoming and helpful, he made me feel very at home. The place itself was amazing, had everything I needed and I felt very comfortable in both my room and the common areas. I very much enjoyed my time there, hanging out with Brendan and other guests. I would highly recommend Brendan's place to anyone visiting Oahu, I know I'm definitely looking forward to going back in the future.

Brendan is an amazing host, he let me check-in very early and treated me like I was part of his family since day one. The room was very comfortable and clean, location is a bit remote so you should definitely consider renting a car (there's a bus nearby too, just in case). It was a true pleasure meeting Brendan and his awesome girlfriend, and the rest of the guests, thank you so much for everything!

What a fantastic place to stay in while being in the beautiful island of oahu. Brendan will be less like a host and more like a friend during your stay. Expect for the room to be exactly as described; clean, private, TV, mini fridge, super comfortable bed, and plenty of room for one person. The rest of the house is a shared space that is well appointed and kept neat, clean, and orderly. From the very thorough check in, to check out, Brendan is available to answer questions, give advice for anything related to the island, or just hang out and talk or watch a movie. You will not regret staying in this wonderful home. You get a true local vibe in this area, being far enough away from town, while only being 10 minutes from Waikiki, 8 minutes from Diamond Head, and near a ton of other hikes and beaches.

Brendan and his family were fantastic! I could not have asked for a better Airbnb experience. The house is beautiful and in a great location. Removed from the craziness of the most touristy part of the city but still easy access to great restaurants, cafes, etc. The room was clean comfortable and came with everything I needed from bath towels to snorkels. Best of all Brendan and his family were incredibly welcoming and kind inviting me BBQs and beach outings and generally just helping me get to know the city. They treat their guests like family. I absolutely recommend this place especially for anyone looking to get to know the awesome experiences Oahu has to offer beyond Waikiki.

I enjoyed my time spent at Brendan's house. The house is set up in a way that affords alot of privacy yet gives the opportunity to interact with the other house guests as well, should you want to. Austi (Brendan's girlfriend) is a real gem! The first night I was there she offered to take me grocery shopping, which was so nice of her. I think she sensed I had been feeling stressed from the long flight and that I was really feeling 'out of my element'. I had never taken a trip like this alone before. She just seemed to 'know'. :-) I appreciate Brendan and Austi as hosts. They're laid back and relaxed and take pride in their home. When one of the guests had completed their stay, Austi completely stripped the bed from top down and laundered the bedding. This was reassuring as I was able to see that alot of extra steps were put into cleanliness! Overall, my trip to Hawaii was an enjoyable and relaxing one. I was there for my son's wedding. Thank you to Brendan and Austi for your hospitality and the little extras that went a really long way. All the absolute best in your future endeavours. :-) Mahalo

Brendan User ProfileBrendan is a superhost.

250+ great reviews and Airbnb SUPER HOSTS!! Wow. 'Ohana Nui owes it all to great guests with a fun fresh and positive outlook on their travel and vacation. Thank you everyone for making 'Ohana Nui what it is.

Aloha! We are Brendan and family, and we enjoy sharing our beautiful three story home, 'Ohana Nui, with respectful travelers from around the world. Brendan retired from construction (early) to be a full time Airbnb Host and loves to "talk story" and Stand Up Paddle Surf. The kids, though not here all the time, are two well-behaved, respectful children (ages 9 and 10) who love meeting all the "uncles and aunties" in the house.

We keep our home smoke-free, drug-free. We also keep everything clean and tidy. We do not have a party house by any means, just a nice place to relax and make new friends.

The name of our home, 'Ohana Nui, means Big Family, which is what we aspire to be to our guests. Our family is as rich and diverse as the colors of our flag and we show aloha to all. We strive to provide everyone with all the comforts of home, with quality and affordability, and to provide every guest with a great local feeling experience, just outside of Waikiki.
