Interaction with Guests

Someone is typically always home. Our guests vary, but most are business travelers, transplants, and vacationers. Many are repeat guests, and are respectful, responsible, and friendly. We also have two very well-behaved kids living here, so please be kid-friendly.

The Neighborhood

Our house is located in a residential neighborhood of Honolulu (Palolo Valley). We are just outside the craziness of Waikiki but it's a hop, skip and jump away if you want to go there. We are conveniently located about a mile away from the H1 on-ramps and off-ramps. Our street crosses Waialae Avenue, which is home to many great eateries to satisfy any palate-- Town Restaurant, Big City Diner, Zippy's, Aloha Crepes, Azteca. Follow Waialae Ave. east for a few minutes and you'll be at Kahala Mall-- more eateries: The Counter, CPK, Chili's, Whole Foods, Starbucks/Jamba, etc. 3 supermarkets are also close.

Getting around

Renting a car or moped while here is highly recommended, as the house is tucked away in the back of a valley. If you have a moped/motorcycle/bicycle, there is safe and private off-street parking. If you have a car, there's street parking. (You'll need to walk up a steep driveway to the house, so be comfortable with doing that.) However if you do plan on using the bus as your main mode of transportation, there is a covered bus stop for "TheBus #9S" right across the street from the house.
Note: If you plan on staying longer than 30 days and would like affordable vehicle options, just ask.

  • I cannot say enough positive things about staying at Ohana Nui. Very warm, friendly, and hospitable family, clean and inviting house, great location. Brendan, Stephanie, and the kids are fun and welcoming. The house is close to the Waikiki action while being in a quiet neighborhood. Staying in the Elua room was great for my few month stay as a student; everything I needed while studying in Honolulu short-term. If you are traveling alone, this house is great because there are other travelers looking to make friends, or just share some smalltalk over dinner. Having access to a full kitchen, laundry, beach gear, and other amenities was great. There was never a fight over the bathrooms either, especially if you are working and leave earlier in the morning. A great place to come home to at night if you are vacationing or working! This is an AirBnB experience at its finest.

  • I stayed with Stephanie and Brendan for a week and I really loved living with them and the kids. They were very nice (even if I was confused about my arriving date) and they did everything they could to make everything easy for me and to make me feel part of the family. It really felt like home! The house is beautiful, clean, quiet and well located. I spent wonderful moments with them sharing barbecue, spending time on the beach and living my first Thanksgiving with them! They really try to make you discover the Hawaian life. Brendan, Stephanie and the kids were so warm and welcoming that now I found my own place and it feels a little bit empty but I am looking forward to keeping seeing them outside Airbnb. I highly recommend staying there!

  • A+ hosts. I stayed with Brendan and Stephanie for 3 months while I was on my clinical (email hidden)e house was always clean and comfortable and my stay was great!! They gave me advice on places to go in Oahu and also introduced me to a cheap car rental place nearby which really helped me out since I was staying for so long. Brendan and Steph are very warm & welcoming and I was invited to their beach outings and movie nights. Lovely family! I'll miss them and the kids! -Liz the mermaid

  • I had a great time staying at Brendan & Stephanie's Ohana Nui. The house is very modern, neat, clean and exceptionally quiet! They have two awesome kids, Gabby & Sal. They are great kids. Brendon &
Stephanie are great hosts and will answer any questions you have and give you advice about the area. I borrowed their Diamond Head pass for the day... a hike and view you don't want to miss... it is worth the effort. Altho, I admit I wasn't at the house much....I was busy enjoyi ng Hawaii, I loved the time I spent there and would definitely stay at their home again. I did get to enjoy one movie night with them and some other houseguests...great popcorn with toppings!! And we shared a great bottle of Pineapple Wine one evening. You won't find a better value for your money! I would reccomend that you have transportation, or rent a car ... that was somewhat of an issue for me and next time I would definitely rent a car.The driveway is very steep so be prepared for a little hike & some stairs... I got some good exercise! It is a nice neighborhood... I actually walked to the bus stop almost daily and felt perfectly safe. I had a fabulous time and plan on coming back again. I made some new friends and hopefully will see them all again soon!

  • I just had a blast staying with this family. These guys are amazing! I'm still overwhelmed by the warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere over there. The aloha spirit is all over this place. They took me to the city lights on Christmas, we did the Koko trail together, had a fun beach day and they invited me to Christmas dinner, which was absolutely great. I was traveling on my own and I just felt home when I stepped into the house. They always treated me like a family member which I really appreciated.
I really enjoyed having breakfast or dinner with them and/or other travellers. Everything was just perfect. The kids are so much fun, well behaving and just adorable! I Would adopt them right away.
I highly recommend this place and I'm going to stay with this amazing family for another 4 weeks at the end of this month! Looking forward and can't wait because it was hard to leave even if I spent just one week over there.

Aloha! We are Brendan and Stephanie, and we enjoy sharing our home, 'Ohana Nui with you, respectful travelers from around the world. Brendan works in construction and loves to "talk story" and surf. Stephanie works for the C&C of Honolulu, and loves to read and lounge on the beach when she's not working. We've lived in Honolulu for almost 10 years and have been hosting guests most of that time (we're originally from the Bay Area, CA). We keep our home smoke-free, drug-free, and pet free (except for a few goldfish). We also keep thing clean and tidy. We do not have a party house by any means, just a nice place to relax and make new friends. Additionally, we have two well-behaved, respectful kids (ages 6 and 7) who love meeting all the "uncles and aunties" in the house. The name of our home, 'Ohana Nui, means Big Family, which is what we aspire to be to our guests. We have enjoyed hosting many guests over the years at our beautiful 3 story home in the heart of Palolo Valley. We strive to provide all the comforts of home with quality and affordability and to provide a great experience with a local feel, just outside of Waikiki. Aloha!
