Dear Guests of Casa Sol,
Welcome to our home in wonderful Cabuya. We hope you will enjoy your stay and take full advantage of all the beauty, peace and love Cabuya and the people of Cabuya can offer.
Casa Sol is our private residence and is only rented out on a very limited basis. Therefore you will find a few of our personal items in the house. We trust you will respect these items and leave everything as you found them on your arrival.
You might find mangos, bananas and papayas in the garden. Please feel free to eat as much as you can.
If you have any questions, please ask Jenny, our great neighbor.
Enjoy your stay and Pura Vida from
Erik & Jette
Casa Sol was beautiful and relaxing! It is off the beaten path, which is exactly what we were looking for, but relatively convenient for accessing beaches and towns on both the Pacific and Montezuma side of the peninsula. (I say relatively convenient only because those who aren't familiar with the area should know that the dirt roads are not easy driving). The house was perfect for the two of us, and would be good for a family of 4 but might be cozy for 4 unrelated adults. The garden and pool were beautiful and a great way to wake up in the morning or relax at sunset while watching the birds and wildlife and listening to the howler monkeys. Having Cafe Coyote immediately next door was a huge plus. The food was great and the owner, Jenny, was fabulous. She is very friendly and can help you with anything (even travel arrangements getting to Cabuya). I would definitely stay here again. Thanks, Jette, for a great visit!
This was the most beautifull place we stayed in Costa Rica! The house had everything we needed and is very quiet and in a private place. Jenny the neighbour is very Nice and can help you with everything. We saw in the garden monkeys passing by, a pizote, very much birds and butterflies we could watch from the private pool. Everything was very clean. We hope we come back some day.
What a great place to spend three weeks with our two kids under 4! The pool was fantastic, the house was simple, clean and had the necessities covered. Jenny, the owner of the coyote cafe (right in front of the house), made us part of her family while we were there. If you don't speak spanish, you NEED Jenny. She took such good care of us. What a gift!
Cabuya is quiet (other than the howlers, birds, motorbikes and quads!), and quite removed from the tourist centres of Montezuma or Santa Teresa. With a 4x4 (we had a Terios, which was fine) in dry season, getting to those two towns is a quick, though bumpy, ride. Without a vehicle, taxi to Montezuma is (at time of writing) around $10USD one way, and Santa Teresa is about $30USD.
Thoughts about beaches from the perspective of parents with young kids (ours are 3 1/2 and 21mon): The beach closest is OK. Somewhat rocky, but there are spots where you can sit in the sun, explore tide pools etc. Montezuma's north beach is the nearest "good" beach for playing in the waves, but it's quite steep and rip tides are strong. The best beach we visited is Hermosa, north of Santa Teresa. The sand is soft, the water is shallow and the waves run out quite gently.
Do not miss the opportunity to hike to the remote beach at Cabo Blanco if your in reasonable health. It is a journey, but we're not generally very active and made it - each carrying one child and one of us carrying a backpack with lots of water and lunch. It's about 9km round trip but totally worth the effort for the beautiful, quiet beach that even some of the locals don't know about!
Local restaurants that we liked were:
1) Cocolores in Montezuma - they have microbrews from 2 breweries and a great menu!
2) Habenero's in Santa Teresa - The Lobster Tacos are amazing!
3) Coyote Cafe - when you've had a busy day out and don't feel like cooking, you can order pizza from Jenny on your way in, jump in the pool to cool off then head over for dinner! And her pizza is great!
4) Of note - Cafe delfin de la luna (I think?) is at the "main" intersection by the house. The fish Casado is cheap and good!
I don't know if you'll find a better value for accommodation in southern Nicoya than Jette's place: We sure couldn't, and we'd love to go back again!
La maison est très agréable! Elle est isolée avec 2 chambres et un canapé lit dans le salon. L'accueil réalisé par la voisine fut parfait. Elle est située entre montezuma et mal pais au calme. Le séjour fut plus qu agréable.
This little cute house was perfect for us five and had enough space. The pool and some animals that came around to visit us were an extra plus and we enjoyed our time very much. The house was held in perfect order and provided everything we needed. Absolutely a good choice!
Loved this house. This house is the best for someone who is comfortable with the area as Cabuya is a little out there- BUT- if you haven't been, not to worry because Jette's neighbor Jenny takes SUCH GOOD care of you. She owns a restaurant and will bring you food right by the pool, calls you cabs and like she said to us "will be like your mother for the next week". If you plan on moving around the peninsula getting a quad is a good idea and Jenny will have one brought right to the driveway for you. The property is amazing. Set back off the road, pool is beautiful- and lights up at night, gardens amazing. Felt very safe and cozy. The house is simple, perfect little beach cottage. Water is clean, pure and drinkable. I would recommend this house for sure. We felt so welcome. I can't wait to stay there again. THANK YOU JETTE!!!!
We had an amazing time!! It's a trip that we will remember for a very long time. I can't thank Jette enough for allowing us to stay in her home. The place looks just like the photos. We even had a third couple join us for a few days and the space worked out just fine.
It was so great to wake up, lay in the pool and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings. It was very private, yet accessible. Cabuya has a small, Costa Rican country feel that we all really enjoyed for the relaxation that we were looking for. We loved that it was close to Montezuma, and Santa Theresa is not too far either. We were able to enjoy these areas and get away from the crowds when we wanted to head back to house. We hiked Cabo Blanco to a gorgeous beach, surfed, swam in the waterfalls near Montezuma, walked out to cemetery island and low tide and rang in the new year with a fiesta in the streets. It's best to have a car to be able to explore all that the area has to offer, but Jenny (who runs the restaurant next door) can also set you up with transportation to any place that you might want to go.
I can't say enough great things about this house!! We had a fantastic trip!! Thanks Jette!!
