Casa sol was all we had hoped for and more!!! We had a perfect holiday. Quiet, private and cozy. The garden is even more beautiful than the pictures show. Felt like country living in paradise! We spent most days relaxing in the hammocks, in and out of the beautiful pool. The birds in the garden were absolutely spectacular!
The house was roomy, bright and airy. Well ventilated, overhead fans provided plenty of cooling. We did not miss A/C, even on the warmest days. Lots of shady hideaways outside as well.
Location is ideal for a low key holiday. Very short drive to montezuma and cobano for banks and bigger grocery stores. Walkable to local smaller groceries and, even better, the local fishermans landing for daily catch of fresh fish!
Directly next door is Cafe El Coyote where the owner, Jenny provides the warmest welcome. She served as our unofficial host, arranging shuttles to town, hotel for a night in alajuela and a rental car delivered right to the house! Her house salad was our staple side dish when we cooked at home and her pizzas and smoothies were a real treat.
Two weeks went by so fast! Enjoyed every minute, wishing we had more time in this tranquil getaway.
Thanks Jette for sharing your beautiful home. Thanks also to Jenny for all your help during our vacation. Can't wait to come back!
Also, wer etwas abgelegen vom Tourismus urlauben möchte, ist hier genau richtig! Preis und Leistung stimmen total.
PURA VIDA e muchas gracias*
Who could have thought that taking a dirt road would eventually lead us to a incredibly beautiful land, full of vegetation, with mango and banana trees, wonderful flowers, all surrounding a really nice pool?
The house wasn't hard to reach coming from Montezuma, and the road was ok with our SUV. But once we tried to go from the house to Sta Teresa through another (shorter) road, but it was impossible for us to do so... Thanks to Jennie from the El Coyote Café for the tip on how to go another way... and I'd also like to thank her for everything that she has done to help us! She did many calls for us when we told her we wanted to try surfing, and finally found the best teacher for us!
When we were at the house (April), it had been a few months since the last rain and the water pressure was pretty low from time to time. We just needed to be more careful with our water use, use the washing machine late in the evening, etc. so it wasn't so much of a problem... and the pool was always full!:-)
We had a wonderful stay at Jette's tropical paradise in Costa Rica. The house was wonderful and has great ventilation for a house in the tropics, it wasn't too hot to sleep at night, but you can definitely hear the monkeys! We were 3 people so we had plenty of space. The house is all on one level with the 2 bed rooms taking half the house and the living/kitchen taking the other half of house (the shower room is a corner of the house) .
The house is in overall good condition and it was great to have a washing machine in the bathroom. I couldn't tell if the shower had hot water and I love hot showers, but in the Costa Rican heat, even at night, it really wasn't a problem, nor was the water really cold :) the house's killer feature is infinitely pool and the hammocks around the deck. The pool is brand new and there is nothing like watching a movie from in the pool (you can get wifi in the pool). The gardens around the house and pool are beautiful with flowers and trees from which you can eat the fruit. You can even spot birds right out in the garden playing in the pool.
I need to give a special thank you to Jenni, the owner of the El Coyote cafe next door. She greeted us, helped us settle in, cooks nice meals at night, and organized activities (such as surf lessons with Lolo, a french surf instructor who I would also recommend).
The roads on the Nicoya peninsula deserve their own comment are part of the experience, charm/fun of the area. The roads are unpaved and can get quite bumpy, so most people would be more comfortable doing these roads in a SUV. The house is on a shortcut road from Cubaya to Mal Pais (the road to house is "fine"). Most continue to Mal Pais on ATVs. The road is only open during the dry season. The road is doable in a 4x4 SUV, but you have to enjoy driving really rough roads and have no fear of maneuvering on boulders or getting stuck in ditch. In the dry season the roads are really dusty (re you can wipe dust off of road side plants). The car will really look like you went on a jungle expedition!
The beach in Cubaya is a bit rocky, but a short drive towards Montezuma are nicer beaches, great sandy surfing beaches in St Teresa. Parking was easy to find right on the beach.
Cubaya was great in that it is a quite village, no touristy feeling, no gift shops, and we could enjoy the house in peace. I would say Montezuma is more tourist yoga couples and St Teresa singles and surfers. So if you're looking for a really isolated small Costa Rican village experience I would deferential recommend Cubaya and Jette's wonderfully private home!
We are a couple with a baby and we spent 2 weeks at Jette and Erik's house. It was an amazing experience that just flew by and left us all crying when it was time to leave. Our daughter is 1 year old and was simply in heaven with the birds, dogs, kittens, horses, cows and monkeys in the neighborhood. The neighbors, Jenny and Pollo, run the Cafe Coyote next door and were like a second family to us: they helped us settle in the house, prepared delicious food and looked after our baby so my wife and I could enjoy some romantic time together ;-) ... The house itself is warm and cosy. Everything you need is there. We didn't have the chance to meet Jette but all communication was timely and cheerful! Our 2 weeks in Cabuya were by far, one of the best vacations we ever had. It's amazing to see how genuinely sweet, open and loving Ticos really are. We can't wait to go back!!
We were 5 persons who live in Arenal seeking a beach house for some nice relaxation and found the PERFECT spot!
The home was incredibly warm and cozy as described in the listing. The kitchen was great for cooking, the location wonderfully remote but in close proximity (with car) to Montezuma, Cabo Blanco and many other beaches. The pool at the house is by far it's greatest selling point - massive, clean, always covered in sunshine. Poolside cocktails were a daily activity and the WONDERFUL neighbor Jenny (who owns Coyote Cafe) delivered pizzas and beers to the house for us on the night of our arrival after a long drive!
Jette was incredible quick in responses to all of our questions prior to our trip, and we very much look forward to a return visit in the coming weeks!!
Side Note: If you are to consider driving from the house to MalPais via the road on which the house is located, be careful!!! We attempted this in a 4x4 but even then, had to turn around because the road is destroyed. Driving around via Cobano is quite fast and still gets you to the same place!
