Dear Guests of Casa Sol,
Welcome to our home in wonderful Cabuya. We hope you will enjoy your stay and take full advantage of all the beauty, peace and love Cabuya and the people of Cabuya can offer.
Casa Sol is our private residence and is only rented out on a very limited basis. Therefore you will find a few of our personal items in the house. We trust you will respect these items and leave everything as you found them on your arrival.
You might find mangos, bananas and papayas in the garden. Please feel free to eat as much as you can.
If you have any questions, please ask Jenny, our great neighbor.
Enjoy your stay and Pura Vida from
Erik & Jette
We had an amazing time!! It's a trip that we will remember for a very long time. I can't thank Jette enough for allowing us to stay in her home. The place looks just like the photos. We even had a third couple join us for a few days and the space worked out just fine.
It was so great to wake up, lay in the pool and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings. It was very private, yet accessible. Cabuya has a small, Costa Rican country feel that we all really enjoyed for the relaxation that we were looking for. We loved that it was close to Montezuma, and Santa Theresa is not too far either. We were able to enjoy these areas and get away from the crowds when we wanted to head back to house. We hiked Cabo Blanco to a gorgeous beach, surfed, swam in the waterfalls near Montezuma, walked out to cemetery island and low tide and rang in the new year with a fiesta in the streets. It's best to have a car to be able to explore all that the area has to offer, but Jenny (who runs the restaurant next door) can also set you up with transportation to any place that you might want to go.
I can't say enough great things about this house!! We had a fantastic trip!! Thanks Jette!!
Casa Sol was perfect for our needs. The pool was a particular plus. We will certainly go back, and will recommend it to others. We felt very secure being next to the Coyote Cafe, but off the road in a completely private setting. The whole vibe in Cabuya is positive and relaxing. We ventured out to other nearby beach areas, but alays looked forward to getting back to Cabuya and Casa Sol. Thanks Jette, and enjoy your tropical paradise when you come next month.
This was a great home for our family for the two weeks that we stayed. We travelled with myself, my wife and 3 kids (2,6 & 10 yrs old). It was more remote than we thought but we ended up loving that about it. The community is really friendly, the garden and animals passing through are amazing and Jenny next door is fantastic for any questions and tours. She speaks excellent English. We did the tour to Tortuga Island for snorkelling, highly recommended. We also took the bus into Montezuma a couple of times for the beach and waterfalls. There is a river about 2km walk which has some great swimming holes and natural pools and Cabo Blanco park is beautiful. We cooked at the house and ate out only a few times but the food was excellent every time - the chocolate cake at the bakery is sublime. You can also buy fish right off the boat - delicious to come home and cook. The pool made it for the kids and we had some great days around the house.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Sol, and would highly recommend it for anyone staying in Cabuya. We were there for a week at the end of November, but could have easily stayed the entire 3 weeks of our trip in this gorgeous spot.
The house faces a long garden with fruit trees and flowers, and feels very private, but not isolated. The pool was perfect for cooling off before moving onto the deck to relax. If you have any interest in bird watching, this is a great place - we saw well over 30 kinds without much effort, including parrots, mot mots, trogons, and a type of toucan.
The house felt welcoming and comfortable - you can tell that the owners built it to enjoy being there. The kitchen is big, the bedrooms cool with the fan, and the deck is inviting at all times of day.
The property manager, Jenny, lives next door, so is very convenient if you need anything. She helped us with a motorcycle rental as well as taxi service during our stay. Her restaurant, Cafe Coyote has excellent pizza and cookies too.
Thank you Jette & Erik (and Jenny)!
The pool was definitly the nicest thing about this place even though the rest was very acceptable. The laundry machine was very useful since we were travelling with two babies. Kitchen is ok. It is very quiet and relax and it has a nice garden. We spent lot of time in the hamac reading and watching birds.
The restaurant behind the house (Coyote de Cabyuya) was good, very useful and the owner Jenny was great for information, to help book a tour, rent a car and also for daily needs like purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables!
In total, we loved our stay overthere!
We traveled to Cabuya during the rainy season but were able to enjoy some sun every day. The rain at night was very very loud though and almost impossible to sleep through. We loved Cabuya and being in the middle of the jungle. We saw about 10 howler monkeys just outside our gate on the first day! Also some awesome green parrots. Humming birds and iguanas visited us every day. This house is great if you want to be away from it all. Although the road to get to Cabuya is really bad. Huge potholes, very bumpy all the way from Montezuma or Mal Pais. And that is very important if you want to spend time on the beach because there is no nice beach anywhere close to the house. The Cabuya beach is very very rocky and you can't really go swimming or even lay in the sun there. So you have to drive those bad roads to Montezuma or Mal Pais every day. Speaking about the house - we loved the pool, of course. And the place itself is lovely but there are a few things that the description forgets to mention. There is no real privacy in the bedrooms because they are divided by a closet and doors but there is no wall going all the way to the ceiling. That means that you can hear every noise from the other room. Another thing that we didn't like was that there was no hot water in the house. Maybe it doesn't matter as much in the hot season but when it's rainy outside, a warm shower would be nice. I thought the host should have mentioned that in the description. Overall, we had a great time!
Too bad Rita did not expect bumpy roads with potholes in urban Costa Rica in the middle of the rainy season! The weather conditions are extreme during the rainy season and they certainly make an impact on the gravel roads we are using in Cabuya. We are happy that we don't have paved super highways! That is actually part of the wonderful life in Cabuya. Fortunately the great people in Costa Rica are extremely fast and effective in fixing the weather inflicted damage on the local gravel roads. Maybe someone who expect a smooth ride 24/7 should consider staying back home. The beach in Cabuya is rocky with fine gravel above the water line. However we have difficulties understanding why it is impossible to take a nice swim or simply enjoy the sun. No we don't have beach chair rentals, thanks god!
Our house has an open ceiling plan. It is constructed that way to secure a feeling of open space, good ventilation, cool night temperatures and plenty of light. We have never before encountered any complaints about these features. Finally we believe it is quite difficult to find a house in Costa Rica with hot water installed. Very few consider hot water a nescessity with a temperature of 30 degrees in the shadow. Actually most people find a cool shower refreshing. All in all we think it is important that people who visit us seriously consider that this is not downtown US or Canada. It is Costa Rica. Some of the commodities they expect to find back home they should not expect to find in urban Costa Rica. If they would find them, then why travel?
Very peaceful, wonderful place. We loved swimming, watching butterflies in the garden, seeing monkeys, lizards, many birds, some type of raccoon... it was great!
