Farmhouse All' Antica Mattonata

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Via San Francesco, Assisi, Umbria 06081, Italy

The Space

In the middle of the countryside, under the beautiful setting of Assisi, All'Antica Mattonata is the ideal accommodation for those who want to visit Assisi.
The farm is family run. It takes its name from the road of the pilgrims, through which you can easily reach on foot, by bike (free of charge) or by bus (bus stop 50 m) the main Franciscan sites.
The careful restoration of an old barn has resulted in 3 bright, comfortable apartments that can accommodate from 2 to 5 people.
Two of the apartments, one with a view of Assisi, are arranged on two levels. The ground floor has living room with kitchen, TV and sofa bed. Bedroom area is on the top floor, with a double bed: extra beds for kids are also available.
The third apartment is on a single ground floor and has a double bedroom, living room, TV, bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable sofa bed.
The garden has a children's playground and a porch with fireplace, oven and barbecue, free to use. Free wi-fi is available and you also have a reserved parking place.
According to season, you can taste fruits and other products of the vegetable garden. Farm animals are also raised.
Different foot or bike trails depart from the surrounding area, some good restaurants are within easy reach and a market is 500 m away.
The railway station is 1 km away, and it is connected to the apartments by bus (direction Assisi, C6 bus stop), but with an advance notice we would be happy to collect and take you to the apartments. A shuttle to and from St. Francesco (9.6 km away) airport is also available.

  • Absolutely stunning setting and views. Beautiful place with every convenience and the most kind and generous hosts. Highly recommended. Excellent value. We loved the chance to meet
Assissi's sweetest family who offered us fresh veggies and eggs from
their little land of Eden. The icing on the cake was seeing Saint
    Francis's hometown covered in snow.

  • We had a fantastic stay here. It was easy to walk to Assisi and also to use it as a base for other destinations in Umbria, especially if you have a car. The apartment was spacious, extremely clean and had everything you needed. A special thanks to Mario( who shared his special wine with us ) and his lovely wife who gave us some of her home cooked cakes. Highly recommended!

  • We are so glad we opted to stay at this lovely and spacious, cute and charming farmhouse - it's a fifteen-minute walk outside of Assisi, with a perfect view of both the town and the St. Francis Basilica from our upstairs bedroom window! We had considered places inside the town itself, but they seemed cramped in comparison - and it would be tough to match the farmhouse for amenities and charm! Cristiana and David were wonderful hosts who picked us up from the Assisi Train Station, which is about a fifteen minute walk from the farmhouse - conveniently located right in between the train station and Assisi. The amenities of this accommodation are numerous - air conditioning; kitchenette with sink, stovetop, and refrigerator; bathroom with great shower and towels; washing machine and clothesline to do laundry; barbecue area; porch swing; bikes; and even a garden to pick your own vegetables in season. Cristiana even baked us tasty homemade muffins, which were much appreciated next day at breakfast! David's family were lovely to us as well. We would recommend this listing highly - and hope to return one day ourselves!

  • Cristiana was exceptionally helpful and friendly. She met my parents and I at the train station as we arrived, and was very kind, giving us further lifts in her car. We also met her sweet daughter, Arianna, who gave us home-made sweet biscuits on our arrival. Beautiful, comfortable and spotlessly clean, with a wonderful view of Assisi. The house is a bit further from Assisi than we expected, however this was not a problem, as we had access to the family's bicycles and nearby buses. The family were all friendly and kindly gave us access to their glorious fruit and vegetable farm. Thank you very much for the wonderful stay! We'll be back!

  • If you are going to Assisi then you should stay here! We were greeted at train station by a happy and lovely Mario who drove us to the apartment. The apartment itself is clean, comfortable and quite roomy. We were greeted by smiles and gellato which was amazing. It's 15 minutes walking to San Francesco via a lovely lighted path. I had a great stay and I plan on going back when I go back to Assisi.

  • My friends and I stayed at All' Antica Mattonata for a week and had the most incredible time! The apartment we stayed at was perfect with the most amazing view of Assisi from the loft's window. There was nothing better than waking up in the morning to see Assisi from your bed! The apartment was spacious and everything we needed. There were two large beds and a smaller bed, a wonderful antique dining table, a kitchen with pots and pans and other utensils, a small refrigerator and a small toaster oven. The owners really made the experience special by allowing us to use the olive they produced, as well as vegetables and herbs from the garden. My friends and I really appreciated that they had an Italian coffee maker with really good coffee which we used every morning. The owners, Mario and his wife, David and Cristiana were so welcoming and helpful! They were very willing and happy to make our stay as wonderful and as comfortable as possible

I would highly recommend staying at the agriturismo for as long as you can! Staying here for a week allowed us to really understand and appreciate Assisi. Although it is a small town, there is a lot to see and it was wonderful to come back to our home in Assisi and have dinner on the patio with the views of the town up on the hill at night. Likewise, it was incredible to drink our espresso and eat breakfast with the view of Assisi in the morning.

It was an incredible experience and I hope to return again soon!

  • The hosts are very kind, we were even able to eat artichokes right from the garden. The place was clean, the bed was very comfortable. You can walk to Assisi and bikes (available free of charge) can take you to all attractions around.

Thanks Svetlana, you and your husband are very nice and we hope that you came back to our farmhouse.

  • We absolutely loved our time in Assisi and a big part of this was because of our accommodation. The living space is huge (split over two levels), it has a fully-equipped kitchen and our bedroom windows boasted a stunning view of the town of Assisi. You should be aware that this accommodation isn't IN Assisi, but lies at the foot of the hill, so it will take you 15 minutes to walk into town. That wasn't an issue for us, though, as we enjoyed the walk (on a historic path) and appreciated being away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre (not that Assisi has much hustle and bustle!).

A train delay meant we were an hour late in arriving but a quick phone call meant we were picked up by Mario (David's father, I believe) 10 minutes later. Mario spoke very limited English and we spoke almost no Italian but together we managed to communicate enough and he was very patient with us and explained all the apartment's features.

The wifi didn't work for us but we didn't mind too much as we were only there for two days. I'm sure had we brought it to the attention of Cristiana she could have helped us out.

Overall, we loved staying here. Sitting outside in the garden and eating our evening meal (cooked after buying bread, cheese and ham from the town) was a real highlight and we even used some fresh homegrown basil.

The mini-bar is a nice touch as well and very affordable. Given the house is a 15-minute walk to town it's handy to know that there's wine or chocolate available if you want it!

We would definitely stay here again.

  • A beautiful place, a wonderful view (Assisi in all its splendor) and a magical kindness from everybody: Cristiana, her husband, her in-laws!
Everybody was so kind and we spent 8 wonderful days!
It's the perfect place for little children: toys, grass, chickens to watch, bikes to ride! And all the needed commodities: washing machine, great outdoors, nearby bus, nearby quiet walks...
    Highly recommended!
