The Space

This is a for a 1 bedroom- 1 bath apartment above (what used to be) the garage and is now the Studio at SOCO. We are located one block off of Congress. Located in 78704, this is very close to Hotel San Jose and Kimber Modern and Saint Cecilia.

We have currently have this configured as two twins but with 30 minutes notice I can change it back to a King Size bed.

Kitchen, great Sitting area with couch that opens to a bed and large table with six chairs. Generally used as an office, we have it for guests or special events.

South Congress is full of restaurants to walk to including Perla's and Hop Doddy. We are a 4 block walk to Home Slice and Hey Cupcake.

You may not need to rent a car. There is a city bus that runs along South Congress and drops you off downtown. There are lots of Car2Gos in the neighborhood.

We have 2 Bikes you can rent/borrow. WIFI available for you to use.

We have electronic codes that we can set for your arrival if we are not home.

We have two small dogs that love to greet visitors and since they have a dog door entrance to the house, there is no way we can prevent them from running up to you. They are not threatening but like to follow you around.

South by Southwest (SXSW) is an Austin, Texas based company dedicated to planning conferences, trade shows, festivals and other events. The show helped Austin to become widely known as "Live Music Capital of the World," and is the only television show to receive the National Medal of Arts, which it was awarded in 2003.

Initially created to celebrate the music of Texas—featuring western swing, Texas blues, Tejano music, progressive country, and rock n' roll—the series has gone on to feature regional, national and international artists performing a wide range of musical styles, including jazz, alternative country, alternative rock, folk music, and jam band.

  • It was a pleasure staying in the apartment above the studio. The apartment was spotless and had a great decor. Stephanie and Michael greeted us with their sweet dogs when we arrived and showed us around the property. They were kind to convert the two twin beds into a comfortable king size bed for Ben and I before we arrived and provided bicycles to use throughout our stay. We rented a car which was really not needed if we had planned to stay in the city, but we did spend one day exploring outside of Austin. Stephanie and Michael live in a GREAT location, one block from South Congress street- great mix of shops (boutique and vintage), restaurants (Hopdoddy and Homeslice had lines out the door) and great patio bars. We hope to make it back to Austin soon and would absolutely love to stay here again!

  • Stephanie was wonderful as was the place! We did not have a rental car and walked all over Austin from the apartment. You're right smack in the middle of the main strip of South Congress, so around the corner from lots of shopping and restaurants, and walkable to downtown as well.

The place itself was great. A great little kitchen to cook breakfast if you like. Simple, but decorated with a lot of lovely local art.

    Highly recommend!

  • Great apartment! The location is unbeatable--only a block from a parade of shops and restaurants that stretch down S. Congress and less than a mile from Lady Bird Lake--and the apartment is nicely laid out with a serviceable kitchen and separate bedroom. I worked part of the month that I stayed in the apartment and I was especially impressed with the wireless Internet service. My only negative--and just for those of you especially sensitive to noise--is the neighborhood dogs. (Not Michael's dogs--they're friendly and well-behaved.) I was woken a few times by other dogs, usually around the time that I get up anyway and the noise only caused a small bother now and then. That small problem wouldn't stop me from renting the apartment again and, indeed, I hope to book it for my next trip to Austin. Nine out of 10! (Tip: You might not need a car, depending on your plans. I signed up for a car-sharing service, Car2Go, and was able to get a car in the neighborhood when I needed one.)

  • My friends and I rented Michael and Stephanie's one-bedroom upstairs apartment and it was just perfect for our weekend in Austin. The accommodations were comfortable and the location just off of South Congress made it very easy to fit in a shopping trip or two in the middle of our music-filled weekend at ACL. I even found that the neighborhood was great for a morning run. I would recommend this location to anyone wanting to get a true taste of what Austin is all about.

Stephanie and Michael wanted to live in walking distance of something. We love our house and its location. From here we can walk to restaurants and coffee shops and all the rest of Austin comes to South Congress. Our house is a great mix of a 1935 Craftsman and a modern infusion of steel and concrete. The two places we list on this site are the upstairs and downstairs of the former garage. Stephanie works in animal welfare and real estate and Michael is a Clean Energy Executive. mdbreen is his id on most social media sites. https://www.airbnb.com/locations/austin/south-congress
