About This Listing
Warm and inviting master bedroom with private bathroom aboard a family-friendly Sausalito houseboat. Two comfortable beds (one queen, one twin) with optional privacy curtains in between provide a relaxing on-the-water getaway for up to three people.
Welcome to our home! We live on a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom floating home and are lucky enough to be able to offer occasional space to travelers.
This master bedroom with two beds is perfect for a couple, a family traveling with a child, or any group of up to three travelers. The second bed is a real twin with a good memory foam mattress, and very comfortable for an adult.
We are a child-friendly household with (mostly well-behaved) children ranging from toddler to teen, so it's best if you don't mind kids and the various noises they make. Your room is quite quiet though, and we will try to minimize the toddler drumming while you're sleeping! Since we are living here with our kids, please take the time to introduce yourself when requesting a booking, as I will only rent to travelers I feel good about inviting into our home.
When you're staying here you can relax on our patio, paddle our kayak and explore the famous houseboat docks. You can walk to a variety of restaurants and there is a nearby grocery store.
You are welcome to use our washing machine/dryer and/or prepare yourself a meal in our kitchen. In the evening we are often watching tv or playing a game and you are always welcome to join in. The other bedrooms are privately occupied, but otherwise the home is open for you to share.
Interaction with Guests
We live here with our children, so you will be in the mix with our family. We are happy to leave you to yourself if you would prefer privacy in your room, or you are welcome to join us in the evening to have a drink or watch a tv show.
I don't provide a formal breakfast, but you can help yourself to whatever we have on hand (always coffee and tea; usually cereal, toast, etc), and I can recommend some excellent breakfast restaurants, including the cafe at the end of our parking lot that offers $5 bacon and eggs.
The Sausalito floating home community is really unique and beautiful. We love that we have a world-class bike/running trail right at the top of our dock, that decent food is a short walk away and really excellent food is not much further. I love seeing the water when the tide is high and the variety of feeding birds when the tide is out. Before I moved here, I didn't realize that even the mud at low tide could be beautiful, but it really is like living in a nature sanctuary.
The peacefulness of nature is balanced by the proximity of the highway - if you are on the back deck and look in one direction, you wouldn't think a car existed in the world. Look the other way and see the activity of a winding road.
While you're here you should walk the docks to see all the variety of the floating homes. You should check out downtown Sausalito - just a short drive or a long walk away. You could go for a run or bike ride, and you should definitely take the world-class ferry-ride across San Francisco Bay to the city. If you feel like driving north, wine country is less than an hour away. Many people travel here specifically to see the redwood forests at Muir Woods. And the beaches offer great sunning and boogie boarding in summer.
There is public transportation a short walk from our house, and I'm happy to help with sorting out the bus system. We are also less than a mile from the SFO Airporter shuttle drop-off. It's definitely easiest to get around with a car, but with a little determination and research, public transit can work quite well also.
There is free parking for our dock.
Other Things to Note
This is a floating home, and you need to be able to traverse a dock, gangplank and stairs to get back and forth.
We love our unique houseboat lifestyle, and are excited to share it with travelers. If you're a tourist, we're happy to help you find the best way for you to discover the area. If you're here on business, we have fast wireless internet, iron, blow-dryer - probably whatever you need to keep yourself professional.
Please no smoking inside, and tidy up after yourself in the kitchen and bathroom.
Christine was a lovely and gracious host. She made us feel more than welcome (as did the rest of her family). We were a very last minute reservation and she did not hesitate to make up the room for us, even with next to no advance notice of our arrival. This scenic home was a true representation of Sausalito houseboat living. As our first Airbnb experience, it was a fun & memorable adventure. Thumbs up for this host!
We loved staying here. The rest of the week my younger son kept asking when we would go back to the houseboat. Christine was very accommodating of me and my boys. The location and view are perfect and we slept well in the comfortable beds. If I were in the area again, this would be my first choice for lodging.
This was just the coolest experience...the community the houseboat is in is so eclectic and intimate, with docks lined with pots and pots of flowers and succulents, so even just strolling around is great. The room was very comfortable with a nice bath and shower and comfy beds, big windows looking right out on to the water. Our hosts were offsite on holiday, but so attentive via email that we had/found everything we needed, including wireless. Highly recommend!!
Christine was welcoming with a warm and genuine concern for our comfort & well-being. Especially since she was prepping herself, their toddler and teenage daughter to leave for vacation that night. Her son filled in as host after the family's departure and carried-on in great form!
I treated my mother to an overnight stay in Sausalito for her birthday and the houseboat was just as advertised. The views from the bedroom, living room, and deck were gorgeous. Christine greeted us at the door and made us feel very welcome. We also had the pleasure of meeting two of her children. This is a very nice family and I would definitely stay here again.
Christine was very accommodating with checkin time and house amenities. She even served us coffee upon arrival and had breakfast for us in the morning. The room is very spacious with its own bathroom and a great view of the bay. I enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend if you are staying in Sausalito.
My seven year old and I had a great stay in Sausalito, in fact, he didn't want to leave the houseboat and has made plans to buy one. : ) We extended by one day and got to meet our host family who were very warm and gracious. The room was large and comfortable and the deck perfect for coffee. I would highly recommend staying here. The location was easy to find and there was available parking. Also, shops near by. Five out of five stars.

About the Host, Genia And Christine
Genia immigrated from Russia as a child and grew up in New York before moving to California. He speaks fluent Russian. Christine is originally from Canada and wishes her French was better. Both have been active in the arts - Genia as a musician, and Christine as an actor/theatre educator, but both currently make their living as software developers. They share their floating home with a tribe of children, ranging in age from 2 to 18 years, although probably only two or three of them will be around when AirBnB guests are over.
