Comfortable private bedroom with queen-sized bed and shared bath with shower aboard a warm, inviting Sausalito floating home.

The Space

Welcome to our home! We live on a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom floating home and are lucky enough to be able to offer occasional space to travelers.

This room would best suit a single traveller or a couple, but we do also have a child-sized foam mattress that can go on the floor.

We are a child-friendly household with (mostly well-behaved) children ranging from toddler to teen, so it's best if you don't mind kids and the various noises they make. Your room is quite quiet though, and we will try to minimize the toddler drumming while you're sleeping! Since we are living here with our kids, please take the time to introduce yourself when requesting a booking, as I will only rent to travelers I feel good about inviting into our home.

When you're staying here you can relax on our patio, paddle our kayak and explore the famous houseboat docks. You can walk to a variety of restaurants and there is a nearby grocery store.

Guest Access

You are welcome to use our washing machine/dryer and/or prepare yourself a meal in our kitchen. In the evening we are often watching tv or playing a game and you are always welcome to join in. The other bedrooms are privately occupied, but otherwise the home is open for you to share.

Interaction with Guests

We live here with our children, so you will be in the mix with our family. We are happy to leave you to yourself if you would prefer privacy in your room, or you are welcome to join us in the evening to have a drink or watch a tv show.

I don't provide a formal breakfast, but you can help yourself to whatever we have on hand (always coffee and tea; usually cereal, toast, etc), and I can recommend some excellent breakfast restaurants, including the cafe at the end of our parking lot that offers $5 bacon and eggs.

The Neighborhood

The Sausalito floating home community is really unique and beautiful. We love that we have a world-class bike/running trail right at the top of our dock, that decent food is a short walk away and really excellent food is not much further. I love seeing the water when the tide is high and the variety of feeding birds when the tide is out. Before I moved here, I didn't realize that even the mud at low tide could be beautiful, but it really is like living in a nature sanctuary.

The peacefulness of nature is balanced by the proximity of the highway - if you are on the back deck and look in one direction, you wouldn't think a car existed in the world. Look the other way and see the activity of a winding road.

While you're here you should walk the docks to see all the variety of the floating homes. You should check out downtown Sausalito - just a short drive or a long walk away. You could go for a run or bike ride, and you should definitely take the world-class ferry-ride across San Francisco Bay to the city. If you feel like driving north, wine country is less than an hour away. Many people travel here specifically to see the redwood forests at Muir Woods. And the beaches offer great sunning and boogie boarding in summer.

Getting around

There is public transportation a short walk from our house, and I'm happy to help with sorting out the bus system. We are also less than a mile from the SFO Airporter shuttle drop-off. It's definitely easiest to get around with a car, but with a little determination and research, public transit can work quite well also.

There is free parking for our dock.

Other Things to Note

This is a floating home, and you need to be able to traverse a dock, gangplank and stairs to get back and forth.

We love our unique houseboat lifestyle, and are excited to share it with travelers. If you're a tourist, we're happy to help you find the best way for you to discover the area. If you're here on business, we have fast wireless internet, iron, blow-dryer - probably whatever you need to keep yourself professional.

  • Genia and Christine's house boat was an awesome experience. Both were hospitable. They even let us use their bikes for biking around Sausalito.
The room was clean and the house in general had a pleasant decor.

  • What a wonderful, peaceful experience to stay with this family. Everything was perfect, the houseboat was quiet and comfortable. My hosts were very respectful of me and I feel like I have new friends in Sausalito. We had a nice visit my first evening but I was so tired on subsequent evenings due to classes I was taking that I just went straight to bed. I would have liked to visit more as they were very interesting.

  • Listing as expected, and more :-) Christine and Genia are great hosts, and their kids are wonderful too. Only regret: staying for just one night - don't make that mistake folks :-) They really go all out to make you feel comfortable and at home; you feel welcomed into their lives.

My son and me loved how beautiful the place was, the neighbourhood, great access to groceries, etc. This is our first time in Sausalito, and in a houseboat too, and we really hope to be back!

  • This was our first airbnb stay so we did not know what to expect. Genia and Christine's airbnb was fantastic. They didn't just give us a night of hosting on their houseboat, they gave us a great experience as first-time airbnb users.
We felt like we were visiting close friends. They were extremely gracious in their hospitality including drinks and food.
From our inquiry until our exit, they were courteous, prompt and extremely friendly. Everything about the unit was as listed in the ad.

Our stay could not have gone any better. Highly highly recommended !

  • We had a great experience at Genia and Christine's. The location of the house is beautiful - we had no idea previously that people lived surrounded by water! Both Genia and Christine are warm and personable hosts, and they have a charming and very tastefully arranged house.

The general location of Sausalito also affords many opportunities for activities. Biking, hiking, kayaking, bird watching etc.,

  • We booked our stay on this wonderful floating home very last minute and Christine made sure everything was ready for us when we arrived. Both Christine and Genia were very welcoming and friendly! It was a pleasure to stay with them and their family :)

Expats Afloat: Genia immigrated from Russia as a child and grew up in New York before moving to California. He speaks fluent Russian. Christine is originally from Canada and wishes her French was better. Both have been active in the arts - Genia as a musician, and Christine as an actor/theatre educator, but both currently make their living as software developers. They share their floating home with a tribe of children, ranging in age from 2 to 18 years, although probably only two or three of them will be around when AirBnB guests are over.
