Being new to AirBnB, we weren't sure what to expect. That said, we are a somewhat picky family, and have good standards for the places we stay. Richard's excellent one-bedroom completely satisfied, on all fronts. We had a great stay on the Upper West Side. We spent more time than expected in his spacious one-bedroom, due to the bitter cold outside. But that was fine! The apartment was very warm, setup well for our young family, and had an amazing kitchen. Even with all of the wonderful restaurant offerings around us, we hardly dined out.
Richard was also a great host! He was very communicative, and easy to reach, even before finalizing our reservations. He answered the questions we had about arrival, and a few inquiries we had during our stay very promptly. When a small issue arose, which Richard thought may have negatively impacted our stay (it didn't), he went out of his way to help remedy the situation.
We would certainly recommend Richard's place to others... so long as they don't request the dates when we hope to return!
It's hard to add more to what others have reviewed about Richard's apartment, so I'll just summarize the highlights:
The apartment was very clean and well lit. The temperature was good; not too hot, not too cold. The kitchen was well equipped (although we did not use it).
Richard is a wonderful host. He appears to be very genuine and wants everyone to enjoy his place. He is easy to communicate with and willing to fix any problem you find. He is honest and has great integrity.
The location is fantastic. We could walk to any number of wonderful restaurants and enjoyed the variety of choice of food one could find nearby. A local bar was just down the street towards Central Park. We used the subway frequently as it truly is just across the street.
This is a real find of a place to stay if you like the Upper West Side. It was a perfect location for us!
Beautiful apartment in an amazing location. Richard was a fantastic and helpful host. We would stay again next time we are in New York
No surprises here! The apartment and location are exactly as pictured and described by other visitors. The location is a perfect NYC home base, but the apartment itself is not what you'd expect in New York. This feels like a real one-bedroom apartment and not a cramped big-city space. It was clean, comfortably furnished, and perfect for our family of four (two adults, a 13-year-old and a 9-year-old. The bed, couch, pillows, and Aerobed are all very comfy. Richard will hook you up with what you need to accommodate your family!
As others mentioned, the neighbors here are very quiet (we did not hear a thing except in the hallways).
We stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend and had only a few blocks to walk to the Macy's Parade and the balloon inflation event the night before the parade. A few tips for you if you do the same: CPW is crazy busy during these times, so it's easier to travel on Columbus or Amsterdam to get to the numbered street where you want to be. Also, streets are randomly closed off to foot traffic, so allow extra time to get where you're going. For the parade, you should have your spot staked out and be standing in it by 7:00 am.
Richard was a fantastic, warm, friendly, and very attentive host. He left us his contact information and also checked in with us periodically throughout our stay to offer suggestions and make sure everything was okay. We also noted that he had made adjustments based on feedback from prior guests. For example, he made two small space heaters available for us just in case we needed them, based on a prior guest's comment.
You really can't go wrong with this apartment and host! Hope you love it like we did!
This was a great and convenient apartment. It was clean and everything we needed was provided. Richard was very prompt with all our requests and we will definitely stay here again. Nice fluffy towels were ready when we arrived and the beds were very comfoirtable. Highly recommended.
Great location! (very close to central park and subway lines) and really does sleep 5! (We are 2 adults & 3 kids accustomed to living in a small space.) The sleeping arrangements were extremely comfortable and everything was set up for our arrival.
Apartment was very clean and amenities were really good (well stocked). Lots of basics provided - very good quality bath and face towels (and lots!), paper towels, soap, etc. Kitchen and bathroom both quite a good size. Living room was very comfortable for hanging out. (and again - everything was very clean.) Other apartment dwellers were very quiet.
Richard, our host, was very good about staying in contact via texting and was clearly accessible if we had any issues (which we did not).
Only 2 items of caution: 1. the apartment is up a few flights of stairs. No worries for most (and not a problem for us), but if you have mobility difficulties then this could be difficult. 2. the heating system in the apartment got noisy a few times per night (loud, clanging radiator sounds). This could have been because we stayed during a time when the weather was changing so perhaps the heating system was just starting up for the season. We have one light sleeper in our family who was affected by this (the rest of us were not.)
The words "excellent location" is an understatement for this apartment. You have Manhattan at your feet thanks to the subway (lines 1, 2 and 3) and Central Parc close by. Richard was very helpfull and available at any time.
We (parents) had a nice bedroom and our 3 kids slept in the living room. So everybody was happy !
On the "things that could be improved" side (for us coming from Switzerland where everything is done with very high standards) : it is heat insulation and of course the traffic noise. But Richard promised he would buy two heaters for the comfort of the next guests.
In other words : if I had the chance to go back to NY, I would love to have the same apartment !
Richard was an awesome, attentive and polite host!
He let us know about many fun places and exhibitions we could go to!
I recommend his aptartment 100% to everybody!!
Richard's apartment was the perfect home base for our stay in the city with our two children. Everything we needed was within walking distance - Central Park, amazing markets, coffee and late night eats, the Metro. The location was very safe and the building felt secure. We drove in and were able to park right outside the front door to unload our things - it couldn't have been easier. There are several garages within walking distance to the apartment.
Richard was very accommodating in terms of our kids - I know it can be scary to allow small children into your home (5 & 18 months) but he was super friendly and welcoming. Richard had his sofa (very comfortable) made up for our daughter when we arrived and we brought along our portable crib. The master bedroom is probably the quietest room in the entire apartment because of the way the sound hits the surrounding buildings, and we found Richard's bed to be the most comfortable we've found while traveling. There are two small fans in the apartment to help cut the noise at night which worked well for us. We live in the country and sleep in complete silence at home...but both kids slept through the night for three nights straight at Richard's place. That being said, there is a fair amount of street noise and sirens throughout the night but that sort of comes with the territory. Richard's apartment was clean, well stocked, and neutral enough to feel like your own home in Manhattan. He has personal touches for sure but I didn't get that odd feeling upon entry of being in someone else's private space. It was pretty awesome to 'live' there for just a while and get a real taste of what apartment life would actually be like with a family. Our daughter has decided that she's destined to be a New Yorker :).
I cannot recommend Richard enough as a host - he was always available by phone or text (he was staying nearby during our visit), but I never felt like he was monitoring us or 'checking us out' if that makes sense. It was more like having a friend in the city who made great recommendations and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Richard even rescheduled the cleaning appointment to allow us some extra time at the park on our last day. And when I forgot our packed lunch in his refrigerator, Richard mailed our little cloth back back to us within days on his own accord. I cannot say enough about how kind and accommodating he is, how great the location is, and how cozy his home is inside...Richard's apartment will absolutely be our go-to place in New York. We had an amazing time and would book again without hesitation!
Richard's apartment was as advertised. Perfectly adequate space in an historic New York four story walk-up. Location could not be better and Richard was punctual, helpful and easy to communicate with.
