Our cozy sunny one bedroom with bright spacious feel offers a great Pittsburgh experience. It comfortably fits 2, featuring a new queen bed and free on street parking. We are centrally located in the charming neighborhood of Bloomfield.
You'd be renting 1 bedroom in the house, it is on the second floor, it has a new queen size bed, mid century modern furniture - (dresser, night stand, and desk). View from window is of our neighbors ivy covered home (in summer), very garden feeling. We offer coffee and tea in room for your convenience, as well as water, towels/wash cloths. We also have a little basket full of random things you might have forgotten: (shampoo/toothpaste/etc)
The bedroom is on the second floor conveniently next to the bathroom (which is shared but our schedules are often very different than our guests).
The first floor features full living room, dining room, and kitchen, all which you may use should you stay here. Outside we have a small yard and garden with outdoor seating to hang out or eat a meal. You are welcome to share this floor with us if you like!
We offer free wifi throughout the property and we have basic cable, netflix, hulu+, on our living room flatscreen tv to meet your TV needs.
Should you require it our basement has a washer and dryer that you are free to use, just let Mary or Andrew know!
For check in please coordinate time of check in with Mary prior to day of arrival. Some times she is unavailable and may leave the key with a trusted friend- she will always provide specific instructions so you know what to expect!

Interaction with Guests
Your hosts are Mary and Andrew and our dog Pepper. Mary works from home doing project management so is most always available should you need something last minute. Andrew is a bartender and a tour guide with Just Ducky/ Trolley Tours. We are both very easy going and love sharing our wonderful house with travelers of different backgrounds. We both love Pittsburgh, travel, great food, and good conversation. We can point you in the direction of some of the best foods and sights in town and would be glad to help you have a wonderful stay in Pittsburgh. Andrew knows much of the history of this great town and is happy to share it with you!
We both do improv comedy in town so if you're around on a Monday we do shows at Steel City Improv Theater in Shadyside. On the weekends just ask us and we can always point you in the direction of excellent comedy.
We are always around if you need us, but we tend to let you explore the city as you like, so if you like to be left alone, we will leave you alone, if you want to chat about the area or grab a beer, we'd love to do that too! If we are out of town or away from the house when you want to check in we will let you know ahead of time and try to coordinate your check in with a trusted friend.
****Please note we do have a dog. She is a small dog named Pepper, she is a 20lb boston terrier pug, she is often on the first floor, but is very quiet. We do our best to keep it completely pet free. But if you are extremely allergic I would advise another listing- only for the extremely allergic. Keep in mind when renting from us staying with dogs does mean the occasional bark or play romp in the living room, just enough to remind you that they are dogs.******
Locationally we are in a very central area of Pittsburgh. We are on a quiet street around the corner from Children's Hospital. If you've never been to Pittsburgh Bloomfield is a very safe location with street parking and many awesome restaurants, cafes, and bars in walking distance to the house. There is plenty to do so please just ask and we'd be happy to advise on our favorite places!
Around the corner is a cute little cafe called Constellation Coffee where you can get some truly amazing coffee and even small pastries. (2 minutes walking). For a bigger breakfast try Caffe Mona also same walking distance, coffee is not as amazing, but they do have egg dishes!
We are right around the corner from Brillobox, a great late night hang for dinner, drinks, and a series of bands and comedy acts that come through. A good time for sure.
We are 'up the hill' from Lawrenceville which is a very happening part of Pittsburgh, tons of restaurants, bars, and stores. We are around the corner from Liberty Ave in Bloomfield which also houses great bars and restaurants including great sushi (Ginza/Feng), Thai (thai cuisine), Froyo, and polish food/dive bars (bloomfield bridge tavern). There's always something going on nearby.
We are a short bus ride from Oakland or Downtown, feel free to ask us if you need help getting around!
Each first Friday of the month there is an art gallery crawl on Penn ave starting just a few blocks from our home, it's a great opportunity to get out and see art and meet people.
We are in between Penn and Liberty which most major bus lines run along. From downtown (or convention center) the 88/87/86 will get you here. Going to the Universities? the 93/54/71D will get you there in 15-20 minutes. Also if you web search Pittsburgh Port Authority they have excellent trip planners on their website for most accurate planning.
Driving and parking is easy, we have a guest pass that will allow you to park right outside the house. Please let us know if you are driving so we have the permit ready.
Other Things to Note
We have a dog (the black dog pictured) Pepper, she is a 20 lb boston terrier pug- SUPER Friendly, but if you are allergic, possibly not the right listing for you.
You are expected to respect the property and any damages caused by you will be paid for by you.
You are expected to respect your hosts Mary and Andrew and also inform them if any damages happen when you are staying here. Also if there are any problems, let them know up front so they can hopefully solve them!
You may not have additional people over without express permission.
We do not allow smoking indoors at all, but if necessary, you may smoke in the yard.
If you need something I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask! We look forward to having you!!
The house is located in a quiet community so we slept very well without noise. Also, the room answered our needs well. Mary is hospitable and always has a smile on her face. And the dog pepper, is super friendly and quiet. All in all, we had great time there.
The room was nice with a comfortable bed. Location is conveniently close to buses to downtown. Mary was easy to contact and replied quickly. I would recommend.
Mary's extra room was a fantastic place to stay for not too much money in a great part of town. The room was just as expected (cozy and charming) and she was super accommodating in arranging for my arrival.
Had a good time at Mary's, the room is just as cute as described and the place is very easy to reach from downtown.
Mary and Andy were gracious hosts, and helped us find our way around. The bed was comfy, and Mary had thought ahead to some items we might have needed. Thanks Mary!
It was very clean and cozy room! I had very nice staying and good rest by the trip there ;)
I am a 30 year old IT Project Manager by trade. I do a variety of creative things outside of work including: improv comedy, sketch comedy writing, podcasting, graphic design, videographer, I love organizing/planning things and helping people make ideas into realities. I'm a pretty easy going person. I love coffeehouses, sushi, Bill Murray, traveling, zombie movies, and Jenga. I bike, run, and do bikram yoga.
I love Pittsburgh and I think you'll love visiting here. It's a great place for exploring, eating out, getting involved, traveling, meeting new people and adventure! The people here are what truly make it special- I think you'll find them to be kind and helpful. I know I do!
My Airbnb hosting style is pretty adaptive. If you prefer to be left alone to do your thing our room is set for you to do exactly that. If you want to hang out in the common spaces or go share a beer with us at a local bar I love to do that also. When I'm traveling the same goes. I love to be able to immerse myself in a location and find out what it's like to truly live in a place rather than stay in a hotel.
I like smart, kind, honest people and I aim to be that way myself.
