About this listing
The Sky Cabin is a bright and beautiful one bedroom apartment. The West facing windows, 13 foot ceilings, birch paneling, warm master bedroom and extravagant bathroom are just a few things to love about this space. It is a serene and calming oasis.
Welcome to our light and airy "Sky Cabin" in the heart of the city and overlooking Lake Union, where the film Sleepless in Seattle was made. The 700 sq. ft. Sky Cabin, ideal for two people, is a separate apartment on the top floor of our three story house built in 1912, but the Sky Cabin itself was added on only six years ago. It has cork floors and warm, birch wood paneling, making it feel like a cabin in the sky. The wall of windows faces West with views onto Lake Union, the Olympic Mountains, and even a small view of the Space Needle. There is a master bedroom, a large bathroom with three shower heads and a heated tile floor, an open living space/kitchen with 13 ft. tall cathedral ceilings, and another small room for doing yoga, exercising, or just meditating while looking out to the lake. It is extremely quiet and peaceful, with skylights that let in plenty of light. The deck is perfect for watching the kayaks, sailboats, paddle boards, amphibious "Ducks", sea planes, tug boats, and floating homes that make Eastlake such a unique and special neighborhood. The Sky Cabin is decorated in a mid century style with comfortable furniture and feels cozy and cheerful. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need for cooking, and there are two televisions and one dvd player. Wi-Fi is included. There is free street parking half a block away in either direction from our house, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes within walking distance as well as easy bus access to either downtown or the university. We are 5-10 minutes by car to both downtown and the university and 10-20 minutes by bus, depending on traffic. In the Sky Cabin I have Seattle and Washington state guide books and maps for people to use while they are here, as well as various board games for those nights you just want to stay in. My 86 year old mother lives in the apartment below and you will perhaps occasionally hear her playing the piano. She is very sweet and helpful if you need anything or have any questions. Come and enjoy this peaceful, light and happy place in the heart of Seattle!
No pets, no drugs, no children, must be at least 23 years of age, and no smoking inside or out.
Access is to the apartment only.
Interaction with Guests
We respect peoples' privacy, so unless you have questions or need help, we leave you to enjoy the apartment on your own.
Eastlake is a very quiet, hidden little neighborhood in between the University and Downtown. We are on the shores of Lake Union where Boeing had his very first hangar and that is now home to seaplanes, kayaks, paddle boards, and floating homes. There is a great selection of local restaurants to choose from all within walking distance of our house, as well as a local mini supermarket with one of the best wine selections in Seattle. We have lived in Eastlake for forty years and love it!
Getting to and from Downtown and the University is easy, as there is a bus stop around the corner that will get you to either one within 15-20 minutes.
Other Things to Note
There are 15 steps up to the Sky Cabin, so sound hearts and legs are recommended! The apartment is not child proofed, and the 15 stairs are inside the apartment with no gate at the top of the stairs.
No pets, must be at least 23 years of age, no drugs and no smoking, even outside on the deck. Since there are other people living in the apartments below, we also ask that you please respect the peaceful nature of this house and neighborhood. No loud music or talking on cell phones outside (we will hear everything you say!). The apartment has cork floors, so our preference is that you remove shoes, especially high heels. There are electric baseboard heaters as well as one portable heater, so please be careful about not placing anything in front or on top of these as it could be a fire hazard. Close and lock all windows and doors whenever leaving the apartment, please. Thank you!
Open living area with books, board games, television, dvd player, and information on Seattle.
The apartment went far above and beyond expectations. Gillian was fantastic at communicating clear instructions, and her mother welcomed us warmly. Everything about the space and aesthetic is inviting and warm without being overbearing or cluttered. The attached patio provides an incredible view of lake Union, especially in the morning with coffee or over dinner in the evening. The Sky Cabin was a bright, relaxing, and refreshing place to stay in Seattle -- my parents enjoyed it so much they returned home and promptly signed up for an Airbnb account themselves in hopes of having such a great experience every time they travel. Highly recommended
This is a truly outstanding place to stay. Gillian has furnished it with everything you could possibly want or need. The location is beautiful and the views over Lake Union are spectacular. It's convenient for the bus to Downtown and Pete's supermarket is a useful local store.
From the moment we walked into the Sky Cabin, we were so happy with our decision to stay there. The cabin exceeded expectations and was absolutely perfect for our long weekend stay. The cabin itself is decorated in such a way that is inviting and super cozy. The kind of place that when we weren't out sight seeing, we were more than happy to spend it at the cabin looking out onto the water. Gillian couldn't have been a better host, providing plenty of detailed information before our arrival. There were also helpful notes throughout the house that proactively answered our questions. The neighborhood restaurant recommendations came in very handy as well with us checking out several of the recommendations with positive results. We also found it very easy to hop on a city bus from the Sky Cabin (a bus stop was only about a block or so away) and head straight downtown to see the sights. All we keep saying throughout the weekend was that we wanted to come back to the Sky Cabin for another visit! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, weekend getaway just outside of the city of Seattle. Thanks again Gillian for everything!
This was the last air b and b of our northwest trip. We saved the best for last. Gillian's attention to detail in her picturesque property is delightful! The kitchen is ready for action, decked out tastefully with whatever you might need with an inviting table overlooking the lake. The bed is comfy and did I mention the bathroom? It IS luxurious. We enjoyed the outside deck for morning coffee and if I had stayed longer would have curled up with a book in the yoga room. Gillian has every type of map of the area along with suggestions where to dine. By the way....I would most highly suggest Spinnasse.... the best restaurant of our entire trip. Gillian also has a knack for what travelers might need or forget, not only in the bathroom, but throughout the home.We would most definitely return...next time longer!
Gillian was a wonderful hostess. She was very accommodating and helpful. The "Sky Cabin" was everything and more than described on the listing. Very Clean, Spectacular view and all the amenities of home. Nice, quit neighborhood within walking distance of many restaurants. We would definitely stay with her again. Thanks so much.
The Sky Cabin was one of the most welcoming airbnb locations we have ever stayed in. Gillian did an excellent job of providing us with everything we needed. From bags of coffee beans from a local coffee shop (Java Bean) to eye makeup remover pads in the bathroom ( I ran out, so I was very pleased by this). We wanted to live here. The view of Lake Union was spectacular. The pictures do not do the Sky Cabin justice. This place was supremely cozy. We loved the location, and had dinner at two places just around the corner from our location. We highly recommend Serafina for a nice Italian dinner and Louisa's for a tasty breakfast (both places were on a list Gillian laid out for us). Gillian also provided a lovely parking map. This was very helpful since there is a lot of zoned parking in the neighborhood, but we never had a problem. Everything we needed was provided for us and communication with Gillian was very easy. We definitely want to come back to the Sky Cabin next time we visit Seattle. Even my friends who live in Seattle were totally "wowed" by it. This place is a total gem in the Emerald City.
Our stay at Gillian and Barbara's was amazing!! I ended up booking the Garden Apartment for me and my now "Husband!!!" and booked the sky view apartment for my mother and family for my August 1,st Wedding. Our stay was perfect!! It was so nice to wake up and walk to our wedding venue and walk right back up after the wedding. So relaxing and stress free. The view was amazing and inside the home was so comfy. We are looking forward to our next stay there!
