Welcome to our light and airy "Sky Cabin" in the heart of the city and overlooking Lake Union, where the film Sleepless in Seattle was made. The 700 sq. ft. apartment, ideal for two people, sits on the top floor of our three story house built in 1912, but the "Sky Cabin" itself was added on only four years ago. It has cork floors and warm, birch wood paneling, making it feel like a cabin in the sky. The wall of windows faces West with views onto Lake Union, the Olympic Mountains, and even a small view of the Space Needle. There is a master bedroom, a large bathroom with three shower heads and a heated tile floor, an open living space/kitchen with 13 ft. tall cathedral ceilings, and another small room for doing yoga, exercising, or just meditating while looking out to the lake. It is extremely quiet and peaceful, with skylights that let in plenty of light. The deck is perfect for watching the kayaks, sailboats, paddle boards, amphibious "Ducks", sea planes, tug boats, and floating homes (Lake Union is even a home to a hot tub boat!) that make Eastlake such a unique and special neighborhood. The Sky Cabin is decorated in a mid century style with comfortable furniture and feels cozy and cheerful. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need for cooking, and there are two televisions and one dvd player. Wi-Fi is included. There is free street parking half a block away in either direction from our house, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes within walking distance as well as easy bus access to either downtown or the university. We are 5-10 minutes by car to both downtown and the university and 10-20 minutes by bus, depending on traffic. In the Sky Cabin I have Seattle and Washington state guide books and maps for people to use while they are here, as well as various board games for those nights you just want to stay in. My 84 year old mother lives in the apartment below and you will perhaps occasionally hear her playing the piano. She is very sweet and helpful if you need anything or have any questions. Come and enjoy this peaceful, light and happy place in the heart of Seattle!
Access is to the apartment only.
Interaction with Guests
We respect peoples' privacy, so unless you have questions or need help, we leave you to enjoy the apartment on your own.
Eastlake is a very quiet, hidden little neighborhood in between the University and Downtown. We are on the shores of Lake Union where Boeing had his very first hangar and that is now home to seaplanes, kayaks, paddle boards, and floating homes. There is a great selection of local restaurants to choose from all within walking distance of our house, as well as a local mini supermarket with one of the best wine selections in Seattle. We have lived in Eastlake for forty years and love it!
Getting to and from Downtown and the University is easy, as there is a bus stop around the corner that will get you to either one within 15-20 minutes.
Other Things to Note
There are 15 steps up to the Sky Cabin, so sound hearts and legs are recommended! The apartment is not child proofed and is not recommended for toddlers, as the 15 stairs are inside the apartment, and there is no gate at the top of the steps.
No smoking, please, even outside on the deck. Since there are other people living in the apartments below, we also ask that you please respect the peaceful nature of this house and neighborhood. No loud music or talking on cell phones outside (we will hear everything you say!). The apartment has cork floors, so our preference is that you remove shoes, especially high heels. There are electric baseboard heaters as well as one portable heater, so please be careful about not placing anything in front or on top of these as it could be a fire hazard. Close and lock all windows and doors whenever leaving the apartment, please. Thank you!
This is an absolutely fabulous choice for visitors to Seattle. The view from every room of Lake Union: the houseboats surrounding the lake, Queen Anne Hill, downtown, and the Olympic mountains makes leaving a heartache. Gillian was great about getting us good directions, making picking up the key simple, and providing coffee and many other amenities in the kitchen and elsewhere. The extra "yoga room" was a nice getaway for my wife when I watched a little TV. The location is ideal (close to downtown, a great walk around the lake (10KM), and great restaurants). The balcony was a wonderful, quiet way to relax and take in the views (WOW!). We would stay again in a heartbeat and recommend it to any couple who isn't planning to stay there when we do. And thank you, Gillian, for ordering up stunning weather for our mid-February retreat. Comfortable, quiet, and did-I-mention-the View!
This must've been the most organized and accommodating Airbnb we've ever stayed in. Gillian was sympathetic to a rescheduling due to a blizzard flight cancellation, and the apartment itself is a great combination of comfort and personality, with lots of light and a great view of the water. I'd highly recommend booking it if it's available!
Lovely, lovely, lovely. Will come back if they will have me. Convenient to UW and downtown, cozy, comfy, very clean and a lovely view. Parking is down the street but no big deal.
Gillian and Barbara were both a pleasure, organized and friendly. Finding the cabin was very easy (based off Gillian's instructions), and the check-in/check-out instructions were very clear. The cabin was beautifully kept and located in such a convenient area - only a couple minutes drive from Capitol Hill. We didn't find an issue with parking at all, either which was great! Even though it was raining all weekend, we still enjoyed the cabin to it's fullest potential - lots of natural light still poured into the cabin making it feel like a true "cabin in the sky!", the living area was super cosy with a space heater/faux fireplace, and the bathroom's spacious shower (3 shower heads) and heated floors were a plus! The bed was very comfortable with high-quality linens, and because the area is very quiet - we were able to get an awesome night's rest each night. I would highly recommend this cabin for those that enjoy a relaxing, spacious and getaway feel. 10 out of 10 - a true hit. We will be back! Thanks again.
Just a word: Awesome! This space cabin have the best lake Union view. Lovely neighborhood and location. The apartment is cozy, warm, instructions of how to use it everywhere, and the welcome letter have a lot of recommendation about the city and the neighborhood. Gillian is a lovely person, very kind and helpful.
This place is beautiful and comfortable and perfectly maintained.
Gillian was extremely good at communicating and we had a wonderful time at the Sky Cabin. It was peaceful, comfortable and had an incredible view of the lake. One of our favorite things to do was sit in the cozy chairs by the window and watch the sea planes land and take off.
I highly recommend staying at this wonderful listing.
