About This Listing
Welcome to our light and airy "Sky Cabin" in the heart of the city and overlooking Lake Union, where the film Sleepless in Seattle was made. The 700 sq. ft. apartment, ideal for two people, sits on the top floor of our three story house built in 1912, but the "Sky Cabin" itself was added on only four years ago. It has cork floors and warm, birch wood paneling, making it feel like a cabin in the sky. The wall of windows faces West with views onto Lake Union, the Olympic Mountains, and even a small view of the Space Needle. There is a master bedroom, a large bathroom with three shower heads and a heated tile floor, an open living space/kitchen with 13 ft. tall cathedral ceilings, and another small room for doing yoga, exercising, or just meditating while looking out to the lake. It is extremely quiet and peaceful, with skylights that let in plenty of light. The deck is perfect for watching the kayaks, sailboats, paddle boards, amphibious "Ducks", sea planes, tug boats, and floating homes (Lake Union is even a home to a hot tub boat!) that make Eastlake such a unique and special neighborhood. The Sky Cabin is decorated in a mid century style with comfortable furniture and feels cozy and cheerful. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need for cooking, and there are two televisions and one dvd player. Wi-Fi is included. There is free street parking half a block away in either direction from our house, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes within walking distance as well as easy bus access to either downtown or the university. We are 5-10 minutes by car to both downtown and the university and 10-20 minutes by bus, depending on traffic. In the Sky Cabin I have Seattle and Washington state guide books and maps for people to use while they are here, as well as various board games for those nights you just want to stay in. My 84 year old mother lives in the apartment below and you will perhaps occasionally hear her playing the piano. She is very sweet and helpful if you need anything or have any questions. Come and enjoy this peaceful, light and happy place in the heart of Seattle!
No pets, and no smoking inside or out.
Access is to the apartment only.
Interaction with Guests
We respect peoples' privacy, so unless you have questions or need help, we leave you to enjoy the apartment on your own.
Eastlake is a very quiet, hidden little neighborhood in between the University and Downtown. We are on the shores of Lake Union where Boeing had his very first hangar and that is now home to seaplanes, kayaks, paddle boards, and floating homes. There is a great selection of local restaurants to choose from all within walking distance of our house, as well as a local mini supermarket with one of the best wine selections in Seattle. We have lived in Eastlake for forty years and love it!
Getting to and from Downtown and the University is easy, as there is a bus stop around the corner that will get you to either one within 15-20 minutes.
Other Things to Note
There are 15 steps up to the Sky Cabin, so sound hearts and legs are recommended! The apartment is not child proofed and is not recommended for toddlers, as the 15 stairs are inside the apartment, and there is no gate at the top of the steps.
No smoking, please, even outside on the deck. Since there are other people living in the apartments below, we also ask that you please respect the peaceful nature of this house and neighborhood. No loud music or talking on cell phones outside (we will hear everything you say!). The apartment has cork floors, so our preference is that you remove shoes, especially high heels. There are electric baseboard heaters as well as one portable heater, so please be careful about not placing anything in front or on top of these as it could be a fire hazard. Close and lock all windows and doors whenever leaving the apartment, please. Thank you!
Open living area with books, board games, television, dvd player, and information on Seattle.
The Sky Cabin is fantastic and exactly as described - if not better. My husband and I had a wonderful time here enjoying the view and exploring the neighborhood and the rest of Seattle. Gillian was wonderful and very responsive to any questions. Gillian's mom Barbara who met us to give us the key was also lovely. The neighborhood is quiet, but still with plenty to walk to - a couple of bars, a great restaurant, independent coffee shop, and a lovely bakery. We hope to come back again soon!
I absolutely love this house. When I first step upstairs, I was deeply attracted by the beautiful lake view and the decorated house. The interior gives me the warmest welcome of Seattle. So thank you so much for providing such a cozy place, it is awesome!
The suggesting letter is really useful. I tried the first restaurant you recommend on the letter yesterday evening. It's a beautiful restaurant and the food is very tasty, definitely made my day. The tips on the wall are helpful. There are so many details that I didn't noticed can be a mistake, but the sweet tips give me straight direction of how to live comfortably in this house.
Your house is very very nice. It is actually much better than I expected from the pictures, not to mention living in a hotel like Silver Cloud. Maybe the reason is that you make the house more like a home for me, rather than a inn that I only temporary stay. I have to say I hardly want to leave, and my family members also like the place so much!
Overall, thanks for all your kindness, and I hope that I could have one more chance to view this fantastic scenery once again! To the best memory for living in Seattle!
This is a beautiful place with amazing views and all the amenities we could ever have needed. It is a must stay if you're coming to the Seattle area.
We loved this home! The place was beautiful and well equipped. Evenwhen we were spending hours indoors it was such a pleasure to look at the changing sky and water at different times of day and evening. It was easy to cook a special birthdate meal with all the help of supplies. The bed was comfortable and shower luxurious. And the neighborhood was quite convenient with easy walking to cafés and restaurants.
Gillian is great! She's a very welcoming host.
Easy check-in. Her mom downstairs gave us the key. Easy-peasy.
Later, Gillian contacted us to make sure we were comfortable.
Indeed we were. "Sky Cabin" a perfect place to stay in Seattle. The Eastlake neighborhood is close to everything you need. Several bus lines into downtown or to the U-District. And a lot of restaurants and coffee shops in the neighborhood. Would definitely stay here again!
Absolutely the most perfect Airbnb!!!!!! Gillian was very informative and accommodating. The place is gorgeous, as is the view of Lake Union. There was so much space and the best bathroom ever...the shower was so cool and the floors are heated! It was beautifully decorated and felt like everything you could possibly need was there; including a nice tv, cozy bed, quality blowdryer, straighter, and all Meyers products.
Fantastic professional and organized host made check in and check out a complete breeze. Beautiful place to stay with great location. Would not hesitate to stay there again. Highly recommended.
