This incredible 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 story home is situated in the most exclusive neighborhood of Waimea. An entire wall of windows opens to sweeping views of three volcanos and the Kohala coast. The newly remodeled home has gorgeous hard wood floors and a beautiful state of the art kitchen. The lanai is perfect for evening sunsets and barbecues. Craig is the most generous host we have ever had in over 25 years of renting vacation rentals all over the world. The monthly rental rate of the perfectly located big island luxury home was considerably fair. Craig met us for a tour of the home and provided food and drinks to enable us to stay in the first night. The view from the deck of both Mauna Kea and the ocean sunsets can not be duplicated. We had several couples visit during our stay, with up to 4 couples comfortably staying at one time. Craig checked on us frequently and brought fresh flowers every week. I especially appreciated the daily newspaper, varied reading materials, grocery store discount cards, chefs kitchen, tvs in all bedrooms, the hot tub and the feeling of living like a local on the most authentic Hawaiian island. The north central island location in the well appointed town of Waimea is a great home base for exploring the island. We would definitely enjoy the opportunity to stay at Craigs home again! Mahalo, Craig.
One of the reasons I chose this rental was due to the fabulous reviews not only about the house itself but about Craig. My expectations on all counts were exceeded. Craig welcomed us with champagne, balloons and flowers as it was our wedding anniversary! He made u feel like family coming to visit and stay. The house was stocked with all basics any guest would appreciate (and we did!) such as water, juice, coffee, wine and beer! There was also a big bowl of delicious snacks. We chose to cook a few nights and it was great having the pantry filled with basics and all kitchen gadgets and tableware. The house was spotless and extremely comfortable (we rented the whole house). We got into the Waimea lifestyle pretty quickly (i.e. relax!!). And it was Craig that did it all- -from being available 24/7 but without being intrusive, to recommending local attractions to truly caring about not only our vacation, but us as people. I can't recommend Craig enough. We have rented properties all over, but have never met anyone who was as caring and helpful an owner. We recommend this experience for anyone who wants to get to know the island and "feel like a local" while living on one of the most beautiful spots. You get to wake up literally with the sunrise slowly streaming into your bedroom and the sunset wrapping around you a you make a delicious dinner with local produce and meet and drink yet another Longboard beer!! Maholo Craig!!
Thank you Craig for setting the bar high for our first time using airbnb! We rented this house for the summer for a family of 4 and it exceeded all our expectations. There was everything one would need or want including a variety of board games. The property was well kept and beautiful. We enjoyed the large yard that has beautiful flowers, avocado, orange, and lemon trees. Craig ensured that we had everything we needed- he checks in on you but gives space & privacy. The neighborhood was nice and quiet and very safe. The house's proximity to the farmers markets and stores made it possible for our family to walk there. There is a playground also in close proximity that we visited daily. Waimea is the perfect central location- 15 minutes to the best beaches and less than an hour to both Kona and Hilo. We can't say enough good things about this property, neighborhood, and host!!! It was a great experience and we will definitely do it again and recommend this place to all our friends and family.
I specifically rented from Craig because of all the reviews I read. Seriously, he knows how to host! Others will be hard pressed to beat him. His house is situated perfectly between Hilo and Kona. We did activities in both locations so it was nice to have Craig's place right in between the cities. The house and its views are just beautiful. We had a rainbow at the start and one at the end! The hot tub is nice to have for those long days of hiking. He has avocado and orange trees and the neighbor has a lime tree you can pick from. Definitely support the local community in Waimea by eating at Merriman's, Big Island Brewhaus and Village Burger. Merriman's is expensive ($$$$), but it is by far the best meal I've ever had. The Brewhaus has great fish tacos and cold beer. This was my 50th bday trip so we definitely picked the right host and place to stay. We rented out Craig's entire house to include the apartment, but if you just want a little getaway as a couple rent out the downstairs apartment. It's very accommodating and has everything you need. The hot tub is right out the apartment door! We'll be back as the Big Island is just a great place to visit. We'll also rent from Craig again. He's a cool guy, and I hope next time we hear more of his celebrity tennis stories. :) Mahalo Craig for an awesome 50th bday!
Everything with the house was no less than perfect, exceptional views, beautiful house & furniture, great neighborhood, walking distance into Waimea restaurants and shops (even though a car is definitely recommended). Perfect location to explore the Big Island, very convenient driving times to Hilo, Mauna Kea, beaches, Waipio valley etc.
The best thing however was the host; Craig. His hospitality, generosity and help with different arrangements was outstanding!
We´ll always remember this visit to Waimea and the Big Island and Craig and hopefully we can return!
What can I say! Craig is the BEST! to get to the point I'm just gonna list all the points that his hospitality made the highlight of our trip!
- He stocked up generously food, drinks, snacks for us
- He thought of every detail of the house and trust me it's much better than a hotel!
- His house is exactly like the pictures if not better!
- He gave us enough privacy but at the same time check on us with care
- We loved location, it's about an hour to go to the happening places except the national volcano park
Thanks Craig for leaving us a memory for a lifetime! We will come back one day for sure!

Craig's home is absolutely beautiful and he is the consummate host! We arrived to find the refrigerator and cupboards stocked with drinks, snacks, and breakfast foods. Every bedroom is comfortable and there is plenty of closet space. There are lots of towels, including beach towels. There is a washer and dryer upstairs so you can pack lightly. The common areas of the large house are perfect for entertaining - the dining room table seats 8. You can also eat outdoors on the deck at a large table with umbrella that seats at least 6 or relax on lounges on the deck with shade umbrellas. There are outdoor BBQs and a hot tub on the lower deck. There is even a fireplace and firewood. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home, including baking pans, measuring cups, a full spice drawer, and cooking oils and vinegars.
The view from the south-facing upper balcony is breathtaking. Turn left and you can clearly see the telescopes atop Mauna Kea, with Mauna Loa in the background. Turn right and you have a clear view of the Kona coast beaches. We traveled with teenagers and there was a lot for them to do in the house - 5 televisions complete with cable and some with Netflix - plus board games and cards. We had either movie or game night almost every night. Some of us were bookworms and there are so many places to relax with a good book - the decks, the living room, or the upstairs loft with the wonderful view! Craig also provided two bicycles for us to use and we regularly biked to downtown Waimea, although it is also an easy 10 - 15 minute walk. Because we stayed for an extended period of time, Craig even sent in his wonderful housekeeper to freshen up the house for us!
From the house, it is a 15 - 20 minute ride to three beautiful beaches - Hapuna, Mauna Kea, and Beach 69. Craig even provided two boogie boards, two beach chairs, and a snorkel set for our use at the beach! There is so much to easily do from this location - 45 minutes to Pololu Valley Lookout, 45 minutes to Waipio Valley, 60 minutes to Hilo, 60 minutes to Kona, and 60 minutes to the Mauna Kea Visitor Center - all stellar destinations. You can also go to the farmer's markets in town on both Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the Saturday am Parker School farmer's market has a wonderful vendor who chops the tops off of coconuts and inserts a straw for you to drink coconut water. It is a 10 minute walk from the house to Merriman's, which is an amazing restaurant where we watched the waiter walk out into the restaurant garden, pick some herbs, and hand them to the cook for use on the spot.
Craig made our stay perfect - his hospitality is exceptional and his home is both comfortable and gorgeous. Thanks Craig!

I have lived in Waimea, on the Big Island, for 38 years. As the Director of Tennis at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, which is rated in the top 10 in the world, I take pride in my job and the life that I have created here. Over that time, I have volunteered in the community, coaching kids in soccer and tennis, and fortunate to have been inducted into the Big Island Sports Hall of Fame in June of 2005. It gives me great pleasure to see people of all ages having fun and gaining confidence through sports!
My daughters were born and raised here, in this beautiful community, on this incredible island. Now that they are grown and have their own lives elsewhere, I would like to share my home with others. I have stocked it with everything you will need, so just come, relax and have a wonderful island experience!
