Charming home across from the harbor and close to downtown where you will find both shopping and an old castle. It is a cozy town on an island with beautiful beaches, forests and friendly people. We do our best to make you feel at home!

The space

Our home is over 100 years old. It is spacious with high ceilings and an open floor plan. There is lots of light! We are very close to the center of town too so it is easy to walk to both the castle and to shopping. Right across the street is the harbor which makes for a lovely stroll. There is only one private bedroom available where 2 guests can fit comfortably as well as a couple of children can lay on mattresses on the floor. There is one double bed for 2 people and a single bed in the dining area but we could also set up mattresses in a private area of the dining room if desired (the bed is very comfortable), so all the guests have their own space. Please be aware that there are no blinds on the windows (this is quite common in Denmark) in the common room so it does get bright early in the morning in the Summer. Up to 5 guests have been here and have been happy with the accommodations, just be aware there is only one bedroom and 2 official beds that can accommodate 3 people. The living room and entire first floor is essentially yours as our family's living space is upstairs. We only share the kitchen and dining area at meal times. We can be around as much or as little as you are comfortable with. We do clean very thoroughly before each of our guests arrive and also after they leave but please keep in mind 3 children live here and we live on a busy street so it gets pretty dusty quickly. Our house is very comfortable but it is not a museum :). Kids are welcome here and we have 2 outdoor bunnies that my kids love to show if you like animals.

The guests will have access and run of the entire first floor where there is a kitchen. The upper floor is where our family lives and sleeps so that is off limits. Guests are welcome to use all the dishes and kitchen gadgets in it. We hope that you feel at home here. There is wifi, a cozy living room with a flat screen television and there is a lot of privacy since we live mainly upstairs. The guests also have their own spacious bathroom with shower. Fresh linens, towels, soap, shampoo and a hair dryer are also provided along with a scrumptious breakfast :). We can accommodate food allergies with prior notice (I myself have gluten intolerance). We normally buy fresh baked bread and pastries from the local baker and there is cereal and milk on the table. Parking is ample so you never have to worry about that.

We interact as much as the you would like. Your area is quite private and we try to be very aware of our guests need for privacy or need for communication. We are finding that each guest is different in that respect. Feel free to sign our guest book before you leave. We love to hear how you enjoyed your stay with us and it is great memories for us to read back at all the lovely people who have been to our home..

Our neighbourhood is very old with the houses having lots of character. Most homes were built over 100 years ago. It is right across from the harbour and about 5 minutes walk from the center of town. Every house in our area has a name which is so charming. Our house is named Xenia which means welcome in Greek. In Nyborg you will find beautiful beaches, and the forest. It used to be the capital of Denmark before Copenhagen so there is a very old and very beautiful castle in the center of town. Actually we have 2 castles. Holckenhavn castle is located on the way out of town on the way to Svenborg. It is also an extremely beautiful and well cared for castle. Nyborg is one of the bigger, smaller cities in Denmark conveniently located very close to Odense, only a 14 minute train ride away. It is a quiet town but a charming one.

There are both buses and a train station in Nyborg. We are a short 20 minute walk from the station if you don't have a car and the bus to Svendborg from the train station stops right outside our home. Copenhagen's main train station is only an hour and 15 minute train ride away and Odense center is only a 14 minute ride :) We a have bike shed in the backyard and ample free and safe street parking available for cars and motorcycles.

No hidden fees for cleaning or security deposits :)!!! We do live on a busy street so if you have the windows open in the Summer, traffic can be quite loud in the morning but our windows do block out most of the noise when they are closed. Denmark is really light in the Summer with the sun going down as late as 11:30 at night and coming up as early as 3:30 in the morning and the opposite in Winter. We do our best to make you feel at home.

Guest access

The guests will have access and run of the entire first floor where there is a kitchen. The upper floor is where our family lives and sleeps so that is off limits. Guests are welcome to use all the dishes and kitchen gadgets in it. We hope that you feel at home here. There is wifi, a cozy living room with a flat screen television and there is a lot of privacy since we live mainly upstairs. The guests also have their own spacious bathroom with shower. Fresh linens, towels, soap, shampoo and a hair dryer are also provided along with a yummy breakfast :). We usually pick up fresh bread and pastries from the local baker (please let us know if you have any food allergies or intolerances) and there is always cereal with coffee and tea. Parking is ample so you never need to worry about that. We even have place for your bicycles if you are touring Denmark on bike. You can park anywhere on the street right outside our house (even outside your bedroom window) and there is always ample parking.

Interaction with guests

We interact as much as the you would like. Your area is quite private and we try to be very aware of our guests need for privacy or need for communication. We are finding that each guest is different in that respect. Feel free to sign our guest book before you leave. We love to hear how you enjoyed your stay with us and it is great memories for us to read back at all the lovely people who have been to our home.

Other things to note

No hidden fees for cleaning or security deposits :)!!! We provide linen, towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap and a hair dryer, among other things, so you can leave that stuff at home. Please ask if you have any questions. The only thing we charge for is extra people since that means more linen, laundry and more food for breakfast. We do live on a busy street so if you have the windows open in the Summer, traffic can be quite loud in the early morning. We have a large fan that you can use to keep you cool if it is a warm night. Our windows do block out most of the noise when they are closed. In the bedroom we have covers for the windows so it is nice and dark when you wake up. The dining area doesn't have blinds unfortunately. This is quite common for Denmark. If you have extra people that want it dark, we can set up the mattress or a couple of mattresses on the floor in the bedroom so everyone can sleep in. Denmark is really light in the Summer with the sun going down as late as 11:30 at night and coming up as early as 3:30 in the morning and the opposite in Winter. We do our best to make you feel at home. If you have any requests please do ask.

You can come and go as you please. No smoking in the house but you can of course smoke outside if you clean up your cigarettes after. This is a child friendly house, so if you have children, we can discuss ways to accommodate them. You basically have run of the whole ground floor to yourself aside from dinner time. You have access to our small refrigerator should you wish to buy your own food and prepare it but we don't have much room in the small refrigerator since our large refrigerator needs to be serviced and we use the little refrigerator too. In the small refrigerator you will find milk and butter for breakfast. We have no freezer or microwave but you are welcome to warm up food on our stovetop and in our oven and we have lots of pots and pans. We will include breakfast at no charge and for reasonable fee you can have a nice dinner with us too should you feel inclined but please let us know in advance :). The food in this country is very expensive so we kindly ask that you only eat the breakfast in the morning, and please do not eat other food you find in our refrigerator or kitchen. No parties or extra guests allowed. We can discuss having child friendly pets in the house before you book with us.

I had the great pleasure of staying with Lara and Lars and their polite children for several days while I was on a cycling trip through Denmark. Charming and hospitable, they welcomed me to their lovely sunny home with their equally sunny and welcoming personalities. I enjoyed many conversations about life in Denmark and felt almost as if I were a member of the family. I even got to hear Lara sing--so beautifully I may add!!!! Lara and Lars but the "B" back in "bed and breakfast" in a BIG way. As if the cozy downy bed and pillows were not treat enough, every morning before he went off to work, Lars ventured to the local bakery and brought back yummy fresh pastries and bread of all varities. I never had the same treat twice! This in addition to the cereals and jams already laid out on the dining room table. No Pop Tarts for Lars and Lara! And need I say no Nescafe! Every evening Lara prepared the coffee maker, so all I had to do in the morning was push the button for the aroma of freshly brewed coffee to fill the sunshine filled dining area. I felt truly spoiled with all the sweets and convenience! I gobbled down my treats each day just like the cute little bunnies that the family has as pets in their backyard gobbled down the sweet grass. If visiting Nyborg and the lovely surrounding countryside, a stay with super hosts Lara and Lars is a super good idea!!

Hey There, My name is Lara and I am so happy you are considering staying at our home. I am a French, American living here in Denmark for the past 8 years. Sadly, my French has been replaced with Danish. I am married to a Dane and have 3 little Danish/French/American kids 12, 10 and 9 (2 girls and a boy). I love to socialise with people from around the world - as well as love to travel :). Hosting has been so much fun for me and my family and so great for my kids to meet people from around the world. I am a very creative person - I am a musician (educated and professional opera singer), etch on glass and design jewelry and am a business woman and serial entrepreneur. I have my Masters in Music from the Conservatory in San Francisco and sang for the San Francisco opera while I lived in the US. I look forward to each and every person that comes through our door. I make a big effort to make everyone feel like they are at home :). My husband Lars is great too and loves to feel useful by preparing a yummy breakfast for our guests. I hope you will all feel at home here :).
