About this listing
Mambiche (mom bee chay) House (instagram mambichehouse #mambichehouse) is a newly renovated Caribbean cottage with ocean views located in the Mambiche Hills neighborhood of Isabel Segunda on the island of Vieques. The house overlooks Fort Conde de Mirasol (built in the mid-1800’s), Isabel Segunda and the ocean. In the distance you can see the main island of Puerto Rico and the island of Culebra. Mambiche Hills is a friendly, quiet neighborhood with a mix of local and seasonal residents and is a 2 minute drive (or 10 minute walk) to the restaurants, shops and bars in Isabel Segunda.
There are two bedrooms; a master bedroom with a queen bed and direct access to the 150 square foot back patio, and a second bedroom with two twin beds (which can be kept separate or combined to form a king bed). The master bedroom has AC and the second bedroom (as well as the living room) has a ceiling fan. There are also two stand-up fans which can be used in any room. The living room and kitchen are open plan and there is a front patio where you can enjoy your morning coffee. The kitchen has a coffee maker, blender, fridge/freezer, pots, pans, utensils and most everything you need for cooking. The bathroom has also been completely renovated. The back patio, which can also be accessed from the hallway, has two Adirondack chairs for lounging, as well as regular chairs, a bench and an outdoor table so that you can enjoy meals outside. Not to be overlooked is our outdoor shower where you can rinse off after a day at the beach! We have mature mango, papaya and avocado trees on our property, so if you are there in the right season, you can help yourself! The house is stocked with everything you need for the beach including beach towels, beach chairs, an umbrella and a cooler. There is private off street parking in front of the house as well.
Mambiche Hills is not only convenient to the amenities in Isabel Segunda but is within 15 minutes to some of the best beaches in the Caribbean. Please note that renting a car is highly advisable (and really necessary) in order to get to these beaches and to explore the island. While you can get a publico (local taxi) to Sun Bay and Red Beach, publicos will not take you to some of the more remote beaches. We keep a car on the island so feel free to inquire if you are interesting in renting it, however there are also several car rental agencies on the island. Book cars well in advance as they tend to run out in high season.
Vieques is filled with great restaurants, from Sorce, the new restaurant at the W Resort and Spa, to El Reseulve, a local empanada shack. There are also various street food vendors on the roadside as you drive to the beach and fun local dive bars. Both Isabel Segunda and Esperanza, on the south side of the island, have fun bars and excellent restaurants. (Upon booking, we will send you a list of our top picks for bars and restaurants on Vieques…there is no shortage!). There is a grocery store in Isabel Segunda (although it may not compare favorably to your local Whole Foods) and several convenience stores nearby where you can stock up on drinks and other basics.
To the extent you want to do more than sit on the incredible beaches, there are numerous activities including biking, hiking, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, sailing and birdwatching. Don’t miss the nightly Bioluminescence Bay tour!

Aida met us right away at the airport and helped us get acclimated.
Vieques is being affected, along with the mainland, with nerves about the bankruptcy and we saw signs of that but we were not affected at all. The neighborhood was a traditional one and had a steep road and colorful houses but we loved the views and met some very nice neighbors. I much prefer to visit a true Vieques community than to be insulated in a resort. I would go back in a heartbeat.
The host's agent, Nano, was waiting for us when we arrived at the airport on Vieques. The house is on a residential street on a hill with a lovely view over Isabel II. It's a cute house with a big mango tree in the front yard. The neighborhood was quiet. Our bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable and the AC made for a pleasant night's sleep. Water pressure was a bit weak, but not unexpected given the location of the house on a hill. We enjoyed our stay at Mambiche House.
We just loved our stay at Mambiche House. Caretakers Aida and Nano helped us out by picking us up at the airport and driving us to get our rental car. They are wonderful folks.
The location is perfect, both an easy fun walk into town for the shops, ferry dock and old fort, plus a quick car ride to all the beaches, Esperanza or the airport. You really do need a car regardless of where you stay on the island, but this location would be our choice. We really liked staying in and being part of a neighborhood.
The house is clean, attractively decorated, and furnished with everything you need, including great beach chairs & umbrellas, coolers, and kitchen items. We really appreciated the AC in the master bedroom which made for good sleeps. The neighborhood roosters provided a welcome chorus at breakfast.
Thanks so much - we'll be back to Vieques and Mambiche.
Location as listed - you are embedded in a small island PR town. Felt safe and secure and secluded. Nice house for the two of us. Great beaches! Good recommendations from Matt. Car was a hoot - island cruiser...it was the right decision for us.
We had a wonderful week at Mambiche house. The house was clean, very nicely decorated & perfect for families with children. It was lovely to have breakfast outside while listening to roosters & watching hummingbirds. The house is in a quiet neighborhood and quick walk from the center of Isabel Segunda. Every day we would pack up the cooler and visit one of the many beautiful and peaceful beaches. I am already planning my 2016 winter escape back to Mambiche House!
Matthew was a great host - quick to reply & provided great recommendations. A great experience all round!
We got back and got swamped. BUT we still carry an unbelievably warm and joyous feeling for our host and the Mambiche house - and the street it is on. What wonderful folks and animals. The house and the folks who manage it are tremendous. Only wish we had another week. Thank you. Matt!

We loved our stay on Vieques at Mambiche House. The house is exactly as listed and was perfect for our family of three. We already voted to spend next spring break at Mambiche! The island is small and everything seemed within a 20 minute drive. Everyone was very nice, food and groceries were easy to find and prices comparable to our home in the US. Plus, the beaches were priceless! We were sad to leave and rank this vacation one of our best yet. Thank you Matthew and Catherine!

About the Host, Matthew
Food, wine and relaxing by our outdoor fireplace are the few simple things we enjoy and you can enjoy these things at our house in the hilltop village of Morruzze! We also like the beach, watersports and watching the sun set with our rum and tonics in Vieques!
