Artist loft (no separate bedroom) with lots of light - it faces south and has 3 skylights. it's very quiet and there is a fireplace. the bathtub is out in the open so you can bathe while looking out at the oak tree in the back and a fire in the fireplace. beautiful mosaic work around the bathtub and fireplace. one flight up is my roof garden with a panoramic view of the empire state building and midtown skyline.
Bathroom has a toilet and sink and stain glass windows looking out into the loft space (not super private in case you like a lot of privacy)
Walk up (4 flights)
There is a single bed (over by the fireplace). I also have two genuine Japanese futons that are very comfortable and can be put together to make a double bed or one on top of the other to make a second single bed. I find these more comfortable than an air mattress, but i do have a very good air mattress if you prefer.
4 blocks from the nearest subway.
My major form of transportation is my bicycle and you may use it.
Neighborhood: friendly, ethnically diverse, cafes, great restaurants.
1/2 block from Tompkins Square Park and a 20 minute walk to Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, or Union Square.
4 1/2 blocks from the nearest subway - the L train. 6 blocks from the 6 train at Astor Place.
no smoking - you can go up to the roof to smoke.
no parties - this is a quiet building. no talking while walking through the halls.
no showers - just a bath
We had such a wonderful time staying at Addie's flat. It's such a beautiful, calm and relaxing space - the perfect retreat after being out in the city. It's full of fantastic artwork and other things she's made, as well as lots of interesting books to read while having some time to relax. There's a great bath, and candles, and a fireplace, and a rooftop over the city... It really is perfect... And Addie is an absolute pleasure to meet. So helpful and kind and full of info to make your stay better. We really felt sad when we left.. As though we were leaving an old friend's place. Can't wait to go back...
Addie made us feel very welcome! It was so nice to have such a friendly face waiting for us when we got to NYC! She had hand drawn maps and suggestions of her favorite eateries around the area, which was wonderfully helpful! Addie's tree house looks just as it does in the pictures: an open space full of eclectic charm in a great neighborhood. Not to mention beautiful artwork done by our host herself. If you are shy or modest, I would caution that the bath area does not have a curtain and there are no drapes on the windows. It worked just fine for us though. The rooftop view is an added bonus and has a great view of the NY skyline.
Addie's tree house home is every bit as beautiful as it looks in the photographs. It is an amazing sanctuary in the middle of the busy city. Addie was a very gracious and helpful host, providing everything we needed for a great vacation.
We loved staying in Addie's treehouse. What a unique property in the middle of the city. Addie was there to meet us and walked us through everything plus gave us a detailed list of all the great things the East Village has to offer which made it so much easier. The flat was perfect for us and cozy. A little oasis after our busy days in the city. We had everything we needed plus Addie left us a few little goodies. It was too cold to use the garden but what a view of the city! Will definitely stay there if we can next time we are in town. Thank you again Addie.
We had such a pleasant stay at Addie's. it's truly a NYC sanctuary of an apartment. Being there in Autumn just topped off the vibe of Addie's home. Climbing five flights of stairs and the unique way to shower is well worth it and just added to the experience. East village is such a great neighbourhood. There are so many great restaurants and cafes. Addie is a wonderful host; kind, down to earth and extremely helpful and flexible. We are so glad we found this gem of a place. You'll enjoy your stay at Addie's and you'll meet a great woman too as your host!
As soon as I got to Addie's place I felt at home. Addie was really welcoming and I felt immediately relaxed after a long flight as she explained to me how everything worked in her beautiful home. The listing is accurate to the photos and is truly an incredible space. It's really open, cozy, and feels like a real home. It was the perfect place to come back and relax at after walking around the crowded streets of NYC. Addie's place looks out into the courtyard where a huge and beautiful oak tree lives. It was amazing to wake up and see the sun shining through the leaves. There is also access to the roof where Addie grows some vegetables and herbs. It was wonderful to have a cup of tea and read a bit of my book up there with the view. The East Village neighborhood is a great neighborhood in NYC as it is not too busy but still has everything accessible. Addie provided me with a hand drawn map of the surrounding blocks and marked good places to get coffee, food and nice areas to walk. Her place is also very close to the Subway which was incredibly convenient. The amazing momofuku noodle bar is across the street and is a sort of cult ramen following in NYC. I ordered takeout and did not regret it. But Addie's place is also great for cooking at home which can be really nice during a trip. I often feel very claustrophobic in hotels which is why I use Airbnb but sometimes some listings feel more like a hotel than a home. I felt so comfortable and at home at Addie's place, it was exactly what I was looking for. Overall, I had a wonderful time staying here and Addie and her place made sure of that!
I can not say enough about this beautiful oasis in the heart of the East Village. Addie was there to greet me upon my arrival, and immediately I felt at home. There was a great list of things to do, the best spots for coffee and restaurants in the area, and she was spot on in her suggestions. The apartment was such a treat, and beyond comfortable. It was extremely quiet, a rarity in New York, and 4 of the best night's sleep I've had in a long time, and now officially, my favorite home away from home in New York.
i am an curious, energetic woman. i love to create a special place to retreat to with lots of light and open space. i am a psychoanalyst who works from home and an artist. i'm a great cook and my kitchen space is ideal for creating good meals. a lot of the food comes from my garden on the rooftop. my lifestyle in my place is cozy and casual. the bathtub is out in the open and looks out at the oak tree in the back yard. i have lots of good art books around as well as psychoanalytic books.
