Located by the iconic 4 star Hotel Barcelo Raval on La Rambla de Raval in the heart of Barcelona: the Raval neighbourhood with its restaurants coffee places and bars.
(street view shows construction behind the hotel, this is now complete, there is no construction and the apartments are quiet)
We love El Raval. It is real with a lot of personality and character, and lots of locals!
Here's what “barcelona-tourist-guide” has to say about it:
"The area is vibrant, historic, authentic and full of personality. It is a lively, multi-cultural neighbourhood with a huge variety of tempting cafes, restaurants and bars. The area has also become fashionable being host to a wide variety of art studios, galleries and trendy bookshops, not to mention the imposing MACBA (museum of modern art) and CCCB which is the neighbouring exhibition centre.
Staying in El Raval also means that you are situated between two of Barcelona's famous food markets, La Boqueria on Las Ramblas and Mercat Sant Antoni. Both places are worth a visit to stock up on fresh fruit to get you through the day or to sample Spain's delicious chorizo or Jamon Serrano.
Clothes shopping is also a pleasure in El Raval thanks to all the little one-off boutiques that line some of the streets giving you a truly unique shopping experience. Unlike the Eixample with its large branded name designer labels, Raval is where you find the small privatly owned shops selling clothes you can't find anywhere else.
El Raval is alive all through the day and night so you will never be without an eaterie to entice you in the early hours of the morning!
El Raval offers a central location within walking distance of many of the other popular areas such as the Gothic Quarter and l’Eixample. The nearest metro stops are 5 minutes away on Las Ramblas, Barcelona's most famous street which runs up one side of El Raval."
The central Plaza: Plaza Catalunya is a 10 minute walk and there is a choice of 4 different METRO stations within 10 mins walk:
METRO Parallel, (Green & Purple lines)
METRO Liceu (Green line)
METRO Sant Antoni (Purple line)
METRO Plaza Universidad (Red line)

Very nice and clean flat in the middle of BCN.
Thanks a lot!
Stayed here with a group of 4 adults in August 2013.
Angela communicated very well from the time of our booking up to the time of our arrival, and also did her best to get us the apartment on the 2nd floor (i.e. not 3rd of 4th floor) as the elevator is still not operational.
However we never met Angela during our stay. We were met & checked-in by Toni - with a little hiccup - but got there in the end.
Don’t freak out if you arrive here after dark - first impressions might be a little intimidating. Access to the apartment is via a laneway which has closed gates after 10pm and is secured by a gatekeeper, but we never had any major concerns during our stay and the general area is quite active & busy until after midnight.
About 5-6 min walk along l’Hospital to La Rambla & further 5-6 min walk to Plaza Catalunya.
The location is also handy being next door to Hotel Barcelo Raval which has a taxi rank outside, and on one or two evenings we found it much more convenient (and probably not much more expensive for 4 adults) to take a taxi to wherever we wanted to go rather than the metro.
Inside, the apartment was very neat, tidy & modern as per all the pictures.
Bedrooms & bathrooms were clean. All amenities (air conditioning, hot water, wifi, etc) all working fine.
One or two small things - I don’t think there was a clothes drying rack if you needed to do some washing. No tea towels / hand towels in the kitchen or even just some paper towel or paper napkins would have been nice.
Overall - nice apartment, handy location & we had a good stay in Barcelona.
Thank you for the feedback :) It really is helpful.
I thought you might like to know that we have recently completed a sweep of all of our apartments and have replaced all of the missing items you mentioned.
I'm very pleased to know you had a good stay overall.
Our family (2+2) spent duriing July 2013 a wonderful week in apartment # 5 in the 1st floor of the building.
Location: The very old building is not located in a luxury neighborhood (and this is the understatement of the year (-: ), but as tourists we couldn't care less about that. Much more important is the 6 minutes walk distance from la Rambla and the Metro station, 12 minutes walk from Plaza Catalunya station - perfect location. Many places to eat or buy food in are just nearby, including the fantastic la Boqueria market.
The just-enovated apartment was gorgeous - silent living rooms, everything is brand new, hot water 24*7, silent independant airconditioning in every room. Fully equiped brand new kitchen, perfect WIfi. BNB folks were available and responsive.
Tout c'est très bien passé.Personne sérieuse, sympa et très arrangeante! Appartement conforme au photo, parfait pour 5 filles grâce au 2 salles de bain!
We had a lovely stay in Barcelona for the Easter weekend. The apartment is located very centrally and was easy to find and to and from the airport. It was a large, clean and quiet apartment that accommodated three of us easily with each bedroom having 2 single beds in them.
It did lack the personal touches of an apartment that someone has lived in, it is very much set up purely as a rental and felt a little bare. The host met us on arrival, was very helpful, showed us the apartment and was quickly available when we had an issue with the wireless. We weren’t able to access the wireless and the host had to bring a new device in for us to connect to, which in turn had some issues too! As we required the internet to research restaurants, sites, transport and the like, it was quite annoying.
Overall a comfortable, basic, affordable apartment.
Overall a nice stay, but the internet is basically unusable.
Toni answered our call in the middle of the night when we arrived and helped our taxi driver find the apartment (it is easy to get to the passage, but the driver wanted to be sure he got us to exactly the right front door). He showed us in, spoke flawless English, and was quite helpful.
The apartment was very clean and well-furnished. All appliances and furniture were clearly new. Big windows let in lots of light and the A/C and heat units worked well. Nice to have two bathrooms, but showers are quite small and second bathroom is far from second bedroom.
The neighborhood is central with quick access to almost anything you want. Families and single women will want to avoid the area south and east of the apartment at night, but overall we felt very safe here.
Kitchen is good, we cooked nearly every day and found it to be fine. Since this is a commercially run property, don't expect any coffee or other staples when you arrive. There are many stores within steps of the apartment, so no problem.
Biggest negative is the internet. It was painfully slow when it worked, often dropped users if more than one person tried to be on at the same time. Still we didn't want to spend our vacation waiting for someone to fix it so we dealt with the mediocre connection first few days. Two days before we left it quit working altogether. I sent an SMS to Toni, but never heard back. We ended up buying a sim card for one of our smartphones and using it as a mobile hot spot. As expensive as that was, I wish we'd just done it from the beginning and saved money on an apartment that didn't advertise itself as having WiFi. If being connected is important to you, don't stay here. If it is just a small perk, then this place is great in most other ways.
One other complaint is the beds. Each bedroom has two single beds that are pushed together to make a queen. Not a big deal except that they move apart very easily and by morning there was always a hole. Perhaps a strap or something can be added to hold them together. This would be a perk for four single people wanting to share a room, but for two couples it was kind of irritating.
Long story short: Great location, Clean apartment, Minimal hassle, Worthless internet
