The Space

Have a country and capital-city break all-in one!!! Romantic and different! Beautiful, spacious Yurt with solid wood floor and Persian rugs overlooking ancient woodland, yet TWO minutes walk to London underground with Piccadilly Circus 25 minutes away!

We think our Yurt is the ultimate city-camping experience in the world!

There is a separate toilet, sink (NOTE: cold water only) and separate hot shower in a yurt-adjacent building, and you will have your own private garden entrance. Inside the Yurt there is a double sofa-bed and up to 2 single mattresses, a wood-burning stove, electricity and internet connection. There is a small fridge, kettle and toaster. There are NO other cooking facilities. A simple breakfast is provided: this often includes fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt and bread. We provide tea and good coffee! Local gnomes spirit away your washing-up each day and return it sparkling.

There is often the sound of owls at night, squirrels scampering on the roof and a few foxes (who we discourage!).

Our two kittens/cats, Rocky and Flash, will be happy to come and visit you if invited! (Or even if not invited...!)

Please note: if you are allergic to cats, then I'm afraid it is advisable NOT to book the Yurt, as the kittens leap in and out of the Yurt, and this may be a problem if you have allergies.

The Yurt has twice taken part in London's Open House and it was voted one of the top ten attractions!! BBC Radio London did a live broadcast from inside the Yurt and we are frequently photographed by the local, influential newspaper the Ham and High, about events we have held. Two pop-up kitchen events hosted by Ms MarmiteLover the founder of the entire underground kitchen movement in London, have been held in the Yurt.

Children are welcome, but must be looked after by parent(s) at all times.

In fact, if parents are keen to give kids a city-cultural experience ....and they are just a little reluctant to be dragged round galleries/museums because they just want to camp and play, staying in the Yurt can work for everyone! It's the ultimate city-camping experience and takes 'glamping' onto a new level!

In case you're worried - it's VERY warm and dry, but DON'T expect super-luxury. It's lots of fun...and you may never want to live on dry land again.... But PLEASE remember, you are NOT staying in a house or flat, so it is as luxurious and comfortable as we think it can possibly be - but in the end it is a form of very comfortable camping. You are outside a lot and English weather is unpredictable. It will take YOU a little more effort than usual to live in this way - we think it's more than worth it - but PLEASE CONSIDER CAREFULLY if this is the kind of break you want! (i.e. when it's hot…there is no air conditioning or a fan as this would cause too much stress to the electrical supply…and we think that camping and air conditioning doesn't go together even if we could provide it! However, when it's cold outside, then the Yurt is nice and warm so we believe in this level of comfort!!)

The Yurt is in Highgate - a beautiful neighbourhood with woods, atmosphere and history- so nice that Karl Marx is buried nearby in the renowned Highgate cemetery and George Michael/Jude Law/Terry Gilliam live a short stroll away. Great pubs are on our doorstep as well as shops and restaurants: definitely the nearest Yurt in the world to a tube, and the only one available in London to visit and stay in.

Come home after a hard-days sightseeing and culture to a roaring wood-burning stove and a night lit by stars!

House Rules

We hope that guests will enjoy such a special living and sleeping experience, and respect the yurt, garden and neighbours. If you are coming to London to party, then it's NOT the right place for you - but if you are working here, or sightseeing and want somewhere unique, quiet and special - then please get in touch!

We live in the house, so are on site - and look forward to receiving guests, as well as respecting your space and holiday-time.

We provide one bag of wood as part of your booking and kindling wood, and more wood is available at £5 per bag (cost price).

Our main Yurt rule is to remove shoes when entering the Yurt, and be very mindful of any candles that are burning, or fires lit. Mongolian tradition requests that you do not step on the threshold of the door, as this is considered to be stepping on your hosts neck; likewise it is customary to enquire: "Are you family well?' 'Are your sheep well?' 'Is your grass green?' on entering the Yurt. The reply, whatever happens, must be 'Yes',' 'Yes,' and 'Yes'!!
