Garden House by a wonderful Bay!

House - Private room · Moloaa Rd, Kilauea, HI 96754, United States

The Space

The Garden House is a natural Kauai experience with screened large windows to the garden and stream area below. Bamboo floors and trim with old recycled teak accent this space. There are two queen beds (shown) and a murphy bed, also queen size. Shared kitchen, bath and outdoor covered stone floor with (hot) shower.

The land is situated just a few minutes walk from the protected Moloaa Bay, and is just 30 minutes from the airport. Moloaa, is known for its farming community and rural, “off the beaten track” feel.

Our mission is to connect people to the beauty of Kauai, and our spaces have been created to blend seamlessly with the nature that surrounds us. We strive to be as “eco-friendly” as we can, and to minimize our impact on our surroundings. The buildings are constructed of reclaimed teak and sandalwood from 150 year old buildings in Thailand.

We support local, sustainable, non-GMO, and organic. We create a very clean and toxin free environment for our guests.

This is a place to remember our connection to the wonder of life. It is a place to relax, unplug, and experience life the way it once was. Come enjoy the open air structures, the healing ocean, and the beauty that is Old Kaua’i. We look forward to sharing the wonder of Moloaa with you.

Guest Access

Bikes, beach chairs, fins and snokling gear, yoga mats, surf boards, tandem kayak, spear guns, fishing poles, beach towels, scuba tank, boogie boards, and beach mats.

Interaction with Guests

We are happy to talk with our guest if they want to know about anything. We also are happy to let our guest have their own personal retreat time without interuptions.

The Neighborhood

We are just a few minutes from Moloaa Bay, which is great for swimming, snokling on the north and south sides, enjoying the nice beaches and hiking to the north point for sunrise to see turtles or whales.
We also have Moloaa fruit stand just up the road for coffee, smoothies, sandwiches; as well as a good health food store 10 minutes drive to the north. Also Common ground garden restaurant across from the health food store has organic and local breakfast and lunches that are wonderful.

Getting around

We really recommend renting a car due to the fact that Kaua'i is very spread out.
That said, the bus stop is up the hill at Moloaa fruit stand and hitch hiking is common and easy in Kauai.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • What an incredibly happy place! Anthony and Hami treated us like old friends and we felt immediately at home. The rooms are all beautifully unique and naturally designed by Anthony, and the soundtrack is provided by the birds and the frogs. I can still see Moloaa beach when I close my eyes (When I open them I see a cold, rainy Spring day in Portland). We will be back soon.

Thank you for staying with us and raising such great kids. Sending you sunshine and appreciation for being you!

  • Anthony and Hami are great hosts, very sweet. The beds are soft and comfy, the grounds lovely, and the shower is great. The common area/kitchen is conveniently attached to the Garden House, but the toilet is a bit of a hike if it's raining! Also, beware the bugs...gnats, mosquitos, and spiders galore! The lounge area could use some more comfortable furniture and better lighting for hanging out at night. This place is far from town and beaches (except the little bay you can walk to) so be prepared to rely on your rental car.

    Response from Anthony:

    Aloha Laurel,
we had several weeks of heavy rain and that tends to increase the bugs. We normally don't have gnats at all and our mosquitos only leave a bite that last 30 minutes and disapear. Our rooms are screened in with additional nets over the beds. As far as spiders go, hawaii is very safe. We do have the scary looking cane spider, but it is considered not a threat to humans and this is what (website hidden) says; Cane Spiders will often find their way into houses. While nobody wants to be startled by the sudden appearance of one of these hairy beasts, they are beneficial in the home and it is not recommended to kill the spider (either let it out or let it live in the home). This is what I did when Laurel called the first night of her stay, caught and released it outside.
We don't use poisons and everywhere in the tropics has insects, you should be concerned if you don't see insects, because it's a sign of poisons being used that are a "very real danger to you".
We want people to be in nature and who appreciate nature. Staying in a treehouse is just that, "staying in a tree", and is a wonderful experience if you are not afraid to be around safe insects. Otherwise, look to one of our other spaces that are more sheltered.

  • I could heartily recommend this place. It's a perfect stay to get away from all the noise and stress of daily life. After a while you will notice, that this is a "magic" place, where you get in touch with the "Aloha" spirit. An almost private beach in walking distance, a spectacular view of the ocean, the waves and even some whales - add this to the great hospitality of Anthony and Hami - then you know why it is so hard to leave...
Thank you so much for this experience!!

  • Staying at the Garden House was a wonderful experience. It was thoroughly relaxing and oh so peaceful. Anthony was just a wonderful host and surprised the guests with a wonderful pot luck along with a friend who came over to sing and play guitar. The beach is an easy ten minute walk and was a great place to explore.

  • Beautiful space, extremely warm welcome from Anthony, prime location, peaceful vibe. 100% would recommend, 100% will return.

Three, 30ish-year-old women traveling together, stayed here for 6 nights. Each of us wished that we could have stayed longer! The entire property allowed us the quiet connection with nature that we were seeking. Quiet evenings punctuated with roosters and toads. 8 minute walk down the road to the beach--a beautiful place to spend sunset! 20 minute drive to Hanalei, which had everything we each needed to spend pursuing our own interests. We had access to personal space in the kitchen to store groceries for prepping meals to stay or go. Access to snorkels, bikes, kayaks, beach mats, and coolers.

Meeting other travelers in the common space over coffee and beers was a great way to learn more about the area. Sheba the cat also made us feel quite welcome. Felt absolutely at home in the space, enjoyed fresh eggs + fresh avocado for breakfast each morning. Wouldn't trade the week in Moloa'a!

  • Great off-beaten-path, rustic environs. Close to nature and semi-private/secluded beach. Close proximity to all north shore/windward attractions. Wide range of different types of accommodations on property. Great, economic alternative to hotel/resorts. Full kitchen and nice indoor/outdoor interiors. Communal/local vibe. If you want a pampered, coddled, waited-on-hand-and-foot stay on Kaua'i, look elsewhere. More suited to rugged, outdoorsy, close-to-nature types.

  • If you're looking for something special and bring some flexibility this is the place to go - if you want a high end condo with all the amenities look someplace else.
Anthony and Hami have developed a wonderful romantic place they call home: jungle and trees in a lush setting with a variety of accomodations. From the spaceous garden house to the romantic get aways Treehouse and Birdhouse, to the upper end Ocean View House there will be the wright vacation rental waiting for you. Just talk to Hami and Anthony about your expectations and they are more than willing to accomodate your needs, sometimes fruits from the gardens included :-) We enjoyed our 10 day stay in three different accomodations and had a wonderful time at this very special place. Thanks for opening up your little paradise, and good luck for your future!

    Response from Anthony:

Mahalo Peter for staying with us and enjoying yourselves. We hope to have you back again.

    Lot's of goodness,
    Anthony and Hami

  • The Garden House was EXACTLY what we were looking for! Everyday we picked Papaya, Coconut, Star Fruit, Banana, Noni, and Avocado to keep our diet right! Anthony and Hami were very gracious hosts and they even through a Birthday party for my girlfriend Lulu! If you are looking for a true, down to earth, Kaua'i experience stay at the Garden House! Anthony knows the island like the back of his hand and guided our trip as only a local can.

We used Anthony's Kayak 2 times for Wailua River and Hanalei River as well. One of my favorite things about the Garden House was the free access to snorkeling gear, bikes, surf boards, Kayaks, rope swings, tire swings, and soooo much more FUN! These are requirements to truly experience Kaua'i and Anthony has them all for FREE for his guests!

Do Kaua'i right with Anthony and Hami at the Garden House!

    Response from Anthony:

You two were really sweet and we hope to have you back time and time again to "The Matted Root". Lot's of goodness for sharing your sunshine with us,
    Anthony and Hami

  • What can I say... One of the best experience ever. I really found what I was looking for: leaving New York behind me and go to one of the fewest places that provides a real experience close to nature. The garden house is spacious and clean, just nearby the kitchen and the shower. No mosquito issue to be mentioned. The garden house is may be the less private house but if you are traveling
alone, it is a great way to meet all the other guests; if you are a family, you have everything at a fingertip (plus you'll be blessed to share the house with Sheba the cat). Snorkel gears, bikes are also at the guest disposal.

If you feel like testing your Robinson Crusoe spirit, don't look any further, you'll find a very quiet place far away from the unnecessary materialistic world many of us are living in. I wish I had spent more time with Amy and Anthony, these two help us keeping the faith that alternative ways of living are still possible and I thank them for that.

I was really bless to meet great people from the US, Switzerland, Germany, Canada and Caiman Islands (Mahalo Mike :))

Anthony's paradise is ideally located on the east side, making it easy to go up north (the lushness and most beautiful area of Kauai) and down south.

So don-t hesitate, if you are a little bit adventurous and wish to get back to what really matters, a simple and enjoyable life, this place is for you.

    Will be back ASAP...
