Welcome to GringoWasi, the best place to experience true local Andean life in the Cusco Region.
Whether you are looking for lodging in a typical village, are interested in escaping the tourist vibe or if you just want a quiet place to relax after a trek, this is it. In our quiet town of Huarocondo you will enjoy peaceful nights, and beautiful scenery, Huarocondo is the perfect place for relaxing after a long day of exploring sites, and you can even sit in the main plaza without the worry of being bothered by venders selling souvenirs. If relaxing is not your thing then you can take advantage of our rural location and explore the many trails around town, some of which wind through fields of choclo, potatoes, abas or quinoa. You can get a work-out hiking up one of the local mountains, or take a leisurely stroll to the local Incan terraces close to Zurite. If you are interested in seeing the many archeological sites in the region, don’t worry, we can arrange tours or transportation to any place you may be interested in from Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley to the lesser visited sites like Tipon and Pikillacta. We can also arrange transportation to and from Cusco if needed and public transportation is readily available, for those preferring to get around on their own.

Interaction with Guests
We live here at the property so you will most likely see us a lot, we always try and have dinner at the same time so that any guests wanting to, can join us for dinner. Breakfasts are a little different as, different guests need to leave at different times, depending on their schedules. Additionally, anytime we are not away transporting or taking guests on tours, we are here at the property.
Huarocondo is a small rural town set in an agricultural valley, located mid-way between Cusco and the Sacred Valley, with the main attraction being the beauty, peace and tranquility. There are plenty of roads and trails for hiking and the largest lake in the Cusco region is just 11.5 km to the North East. Additionally there are two archeological sites close by, Andenes Zurite which is 5.6 km to the south and the trail to Wata is 5.5 km to the North West. The property is located just one block from the Huarocondo main Plaza where you can sample the local specialty of lechon or roast pig, and there is also a large colonial church on the main plaza that houses several paintings, that we have been told, are more valuable than the ones in the cathedral in Cusco.
There are a few options for transportation in and out of town, depending on where you want to go. The first and easiest is for us to arrange a car and driver for you; this can be almost any time of day or night, and services range from basic transportation to full day tours.
There is also public transportation available in and out of town by either colectivos or buses. These start about 5:30am and will continue until either 6:30pm or 9:00pm depending on the route.
Other Things to Note
Our goal here at GringoWasi is that you to enjoy your vacation to the fullest, if you have any questions or need something, please don’t hesitate to ask. We do our best to anticipate our guest’s needs but not all guests are the same, so don’t be afraid to ask.
We also send out a list of travel tips and other useful information after you have booked, sometimes this information will end up in your junk folder, so if you have booked with us, please check your junk folder after making the booking for additional information.

Gringo Wasi is an excellent place to stay with the feel of a comfortable home and not a hotel. Lily and Lyle are great hosts and always provide good conversation, food and even private tours of the surrounding areas. I greatly enjoyed staying in the little village setting. If you like hiking in the mountains this place is definitely for you. I Highly recommend Gringo Wasi
GringoWasi is a great spot to stay for a few days if you´re looking for something a little different to Cusco and Aguas Calientes. Set in a small village only 40 minutes out of Cusco it´s the perfect spot to relax and visit other attractions in the area e.g Moray and Moras. Lyle was away whilst I visited but Kelly was fantastic and made me feel right at home. The room is great and the meals I had there were fantastic.
We were madevery welcome by Kelly who was looking after GringoWasi while Kyle was away. She took us out on a trip to the local lake with her and helped us organise ticketsto Machupicchu. We highly recommend this airbnb but make sure breakfast is ready on time. Ours was late and we only had 5 minutes to spare before the train left for Machupicchu!
Lyle and Lily are exemplary hosts! Well before my arrival, Lyle helped me plan my stay in the Sacred Valley by being attentive and thorough with his responses. Unable to purchase the Machu Picchu ruins ticket from the Petuvian governments website, Lyle offered to purchase the ticket since they're an approved vendor. What a relief! Lily and their friend Kelly (she would oversee Gringowasi while L&L are on vacation) picked me up in Cusco since I didn't want to contend with altitude sickness while navigating transit on my arrival. My first night there was a little rowdy since it was the last night of pre-election festivities in Peru. No fault of Lyle and Lily, of course! My room was clean and spacious. Both nights I had dinner and enjoyed not only the meal but the company! It's great to meet folks that are exploring the Sacred Valley. Unfortunately, the one time in Peru that I decide to not take an early morning shower is the one time that there's no hot water. I waited three hours for the hot water to come on, but it never did! So, I left looking and feeling slightly disheveled and quite eager to arrive at my next b&b so that I could take a hot shower. Kelly was very attentive during bad post stay, she she quickly responded to my email inquiries about food recommendations in Cusco and Lima. A fantastic location away from touristy Lima! I hope more travelers journey out to Huarocondo to explore small town life in the Sacred Valley!
Our stay at Gringo Wasi was wonderful. The hosts were extremely kind, understanding and accommodating to all of our needs. We recommend a stay there without any hesitation!
Lyle is the consummate host. He was attentive to my needs and proactive in helping me enjoy my stay. When the WiFi in my room wasn't up to snuff, he offered to move me to another room. When I got dreadfully sick (a combination of fatigue and altitude sickness) he showed compassion and bought some medicines for me. When I didn't have Solas on the private tour I want on with him, he loaned me the money. Lyle also made me breakfast when it was convenient for me rather than on any fixed schedule. The icing on the cake was the incredible value—I can't remember the last time I got so much for so little—perhaps 20 years ago in Asia!!
He was very responsive and responsible. I did not end up using the reservation due to unforeseen events.

My wife and I have enjoyed traveling for many years and have visited a lot of places around the world, recently we decided to enter the hospitality side and open our own bed and breakfast in Cusco. Being seasoned travelers, we know the value of a comfortable and quiet place to rest, at GringoWasi we and are dedicated to ensuring our guests are well rested and ready for their next day of exploring.
